Here in Germany we use mostly antifreeze parts and less water because of the rust that water produces and also for Winter plus also the airconditioning should be redone plus filling new so both sides work properly plus what should be watched is water from the airconditioning underneath the carpet Driver and passenger side affecting the cables as part of the cabletree is there

Replace the coolant temp sensor mate. It's always a worthwhile part to change, and it's like £10. All the parts are on Discount MG Rover Spares. Great video, as always 🧰😃 Also, the thermostat is 100% gone. I'm glad to see you are replacing it.

@JonCoupland Perfect. I have sent you a PM on Facebook with some links to parts you will need. Hope it helps 🙌🔧🤗

I think the orange gunk is probably just rust from steel / iron bits of the system being exposed to old ineffective antifreeze and air that has been let in and trapped. I’ve had the same repeatedly on my Fiat Bravas with the alloy FIRE 16v engine… they get neglected and then bodged. My 1.8 has the revised PRV thermostat arrangement, in a mess of hoses at the front of the engine at the bottom of the radiator, I replaced it with a higher temp new one and it now reads above halfway on the temp gauge. The corrosion and crud around the frame rails indicates a lot of released water that was trapped by the undertray.

Absolutely brilliant pairing father and son combination. I hope you sort this Rover 75 out as it looks quite a tidy car.

Thanks for your kind words. Were just enjoying the process
@jamesmarriott75010 ай бұрын
Have to say that orange deposit looks like old k-seal, rad weld or similar mixed with the usual rust from unside a 20+ yr old engine. A previous bodge perhaps?

Also K-seal is good stuff had a Skoda Felicia and the head had gone on it , local garage for £20 put the K-seal in and that cheap fix lasted me 12 months before it went bang completely lol the car was not worth anything so was good for me as it let me save the cash for a new car at the time lol

That if your lucky will have a blown head gasket. That sticky brown goo is most likely K-seal or radweld. New radiator, recent thermostat, its been overheating and they have tried bogdges to fix it. Hopefully it is the head gasket otherwise something has a crack in it, head or block. Also while you are in there check the waterpump, sometimes the impeller falls off it's shaft or cracks and no longer pumps, even though the drive still turns.
@JonCoupland10 ай бұрын
I don't want to spoil the series for those following it ... But it wasn't the head gasket :)
@Thefog666Ай бұрын
How did you flush the heater matrix?
@JonCouplandАй бұрын
We tried a few different methods, firstly we tried to unblock it by using a jet washer, this didn't work, then we tried a washing up liquid solution which removed a slight amount. In the end a drain cleaner solution did the trick. There are other videos in the series where Dad is playing around with the Matrix :)
@Thefog666Ай бұрын
@JonCoupland ah brilliant. I stuck a hose down one pipe and tried to flush it out. But didn't make any difference lol, I'll try your method, I've got a 1,8 04 plate, and since having it I've had constant problems, I'm using my dad's 75 now as he's just bought a jag instead haha,
@scoobydooz657510 ай бұрын
I've seen the propellor on the water pump just spin on the spindle, as in its not fixed to the water pump spindle, I've had this problem on an MGF, same engine and components, that thermostat is a right pain of a job in comparison to other cars

Whilst I'm not wishing to teach your Father to suck eggs Jon, you might just check that the coolant hasn't made its way into The crankcase and is mixing with the engine oil ,also don't put drain cleaner anywhere near your cooling system,best thing is a good dose of Vanish. Good luck both and A Happy New Year to you all.
