Nice to see a cup of tea the correct colour - not too milky, not too dark. Good work there 👍 Oh you beat me to it - "put a tube in..." 😂 To be honest I didn't know cleaning the dried gloop off a tyre was a thing until now. I'm deffo sticking with tubes! Good stuff James!

@1:34 Cheers James, you're right. We'd rather not watch you for 30 mins rubbing one out;) And not one sip of tea! That's proper science👍 Best tip: leave the dried sealant in and just keep topping up when necessary. The extra doesn't weigh much and might be blocking some old punctures. Keep the good work up.

Was changing out the tyres to new wheels so wanted to start a fresh and also for content😄😉 Now will just let the tyres wear out and will use Silca replenisher to keep it wet🤪 Cheers for dropping by Jib😊👍

I decided to clean the tyres on my gravel bike and found the Stan's sealant still tacky. I used the gloves method, but I was a whole lot less meticulous about getting all the sealant residue off my Conti 43 mm tyres. It's good practice to clean out the tyres as I found my old sealant had corroded the inner surface of my last tyres on my gravel bike -- both front and rear basically deteriorated from the inside out causing a huge lump to form where the damage had occurred. Pain in the wazoo? Yes. Do I want to faff with tunes out on the road/trail? NO!. I do carry a TPU tube for emergencies. Thanks for the video James. Have fun on the Topper.

It’s another pain and hassle with tubeless and another reason why I went back to tubes. I just don’t need the faff that tubeless entails. Good job though 😉👍

Cheers Jim, a good argument for doing this then, no one wants a catastrophic failure whilst out on route and a damaged tyre is a walk, taxi home. Appreciate the information as always. Take care mate😊👍

Good to see you revealing the negatives of tubeless. But, the highlight was you singing 'Topstone Ride'. More of that please, looking forward to the new album.

Never taken old sealant out for years. Just topped up. Only time I empty is if i swap tyres and even then, i reuse the old stuff. Never had an issue. Tubeless is easy with the correct approach and a compressor.
@darrenhitchcox63454 ай бұрын
I to use the rubber crepe. They used to use this to remove the glue from the tub tyres that you used to glue to the rim. Silca is quiet messy, I found Stans RACE was just as good on punctures, lasts longer and make less mess in the tyre. Glad to see you mastered setting up tubeless
@JamesSocialCycling4 ай бұрын
Thanks for dropping by Darren. I tried Stans normal stuff, but was not good for me, so thought I’d just go for the ultimate in puncture repair and mess😂 Yes, I’m getting the hang of tubeless finally😊👍

@@JamesSocialCycling The race has the fibres like Silica and hence being much much more effective. I found it lasts double the time of the Silca

KZbin is showing GCN Tech's Easy Hack for Tubeless Tyre Sealant Removal, I'll watch it after yours. Only used Slime sealant in my commute bike's tyres, yet to try tubeless. Still happy with 25mm Conti Grand Prix clinchers on my road bike, with Cyclami 's green TPU tubes which been going over a year without issue.

Not sure even I’ll being going tubeless on the road bike. Just too much pressure to seal the hole. That’s my thinking on road tubeless. Happier on the gravel tyres, running 30/35 psi, I’m not a lite weight🤫 Just been sent some TPU from Magene. EXAR TPU’s. They sent me 3 tubes to review, looking forward to getting them on the Emonda. Up in Hampshire next week, so will have the flat lands to ride. Nice ride for you today, I’ll need to get used to the hills round these parts, no rush though😊👍

Why take the old sealant out? it could be plugging up holes the new sealant will have to try to re-plug. just remove any clumps & top up with new.
@JamesSocialCycling4 ай бұрын
Now that would have been a rubbish video😉 The new sealant will do its job again and re-plug the old holes. Thanks for dropping by appreciated 😊👍

My routine is not to take tyre off unless you are replacing just top up sealant by popping a sidewall and pour in. It’s a bugger to reseat a whole tyre unless you want to spend hours getting rid of every bit of dry sealant. Also Silka is the best for punctures but dries too quick I use Muc off which allows longer time between top ups .
@JamesSocialCycling4 ай бұрын
@@ThePitbull63 cheers pitbull. I will do this in future but I was swapping out the tyres on to different rims, so had to make sure the tyre was clear, well specially around the beed anyway. The rest was just for experience 😁 Appreciate the comment mate😊👍

I find that even after a whole yr there's liquid left in the tire, but not the kind that will seal anything (as I had a tiny puncture that refused to seal) Drained it out, added new and good to go. My gravel bike is strictly used on gravel so punctures are close to non existent.

I’ve never used Silca but do they not have a liquid you pour in that re liquifies the dried sealant? I thought I seen it on GCN. I’ve also never cleaned sealant out I’ve just fired more in 😆. Also bike looks mint James, health to ride 👌🏻
@JamesSocialCycling4 ай бұрын
Silca have the replenisher liquid, but I’ve not had the chance to use it, due to setting the truces up on the old Topstone and now needing to swap them. You’re supposed to add this every 180 days, I’ve already added this date to my diary😉 They also have a sealant remover, but not sure how good that is, as Silca themselves haven’t done a review of it yet, which speaks lots in my book🤫 My OCD got the better of me this time, but then it was a good experience, sort of😆 Cheers for dropping by Ryan, appreciate the comment and Topper 2 is looking nice thanks, let’s hope I get to ride it soon enough😊👍

I noticed the same when I used Silca sealant, Loads of left over gunk, But I used older Stans sealant and it's so easy to clean up tyres, No gunk?

Cheers for dropping by Mitch, appreciate the feedback. I didn’t have a very good experience with stans🫣 Just would seal for me, I’m a bigger guy so could be the issue. Hopefully I won’t need to swap out the tyres again… famous last word😁🤫 Thanks again😊👍

I am sure others have said this but is tubeless just a promo to sell more tires rather than cleaning them
@JamesSocialCycling4 ай бұрын
Probably right, but with the cost of tyres nearing the cost of standard car tyres these day, I’d say it’s expensive way round the issue😁😉 Silca do a replenish liquid that you add every 180 days, but I was swapping them to new rims, so was a good experiment and experience. Cheers for dropping by and commenting 😊👍
