REMOVING F-150 AIR DAM/VALANCE | CHIN SPOILER | CHIN SPOILER DELETE: Step by step tutorial.

I removed the air dam as soon as I got my new truck home - three weeks ago. Other than that, my scab is stock. Yesterday I drove round trip from Astoria to St Helens, OR and back. A 140 mile round trip through the coast range, mostly rolling hills with a few moderate climbs. The temperature was mild, no wind to speak of, my truck had a full 36 gallon tank of regular gas, and the power plant is a 3.5 ecoboost. I drove with a light foot, generally staying out of the boost except for a few times passing slow vehicles. I also maintained a speed in the 60 to 65 mph range. Anyway, my mpg for the short trip was a hair over 22.6. Maybe the loss of the air dam hurt my mpg, but honestly I am pretty satisfied with fuel economy. *** Just maybe there is a little more wind noise in the cab. It's still a pretty quiet ride, hard to know for sure. I will be installing RCI skid plates when they arrive. While they won't push any air to the side the plates should quiet the turbulence under the truck.

Thanks Terry. This has been my experience also. Haven’t noticed a measurable difference in MPGS. I really haven’t noticed in difference in road noise either. What I have noticed is me not rubbing the air dam on those parking lot cement barriers anymore lol.

@@AutoHeadz Yeah, the truck isn't a rock crawler, but a 4wd vehicle shouldn't be scraping every bump in the road either. Besides, that air dam just looks like ass. It had to go. I was willing to sacrifice mpg if necessary but very happy that the loss of fuel economy is too small to notice in real world conditions. Keep the videos coming.

I have a 2013 F-150 with Chrome tow hooks. I bought a set of black tow hooks from Amazon. Got to looking underneath...and one bolt on each hook is blocked by the "Chin Spoiler". Based on your video, I probably won't be putting the Spoiler back on. Thanks Dude....

Looks good, just removed the air dam/ valence on a 2019 Ford Expedition. It had several 10mm bolts, several 5.5mm bolts and a ton of little plastic clips that had to be popped out. It took awhile but is totally worth it.

@@AutoHeadz ahh. 2021 is a bit different so I put it back on for the time being. There dam seems to have two parts. A static one and another that’s behind and attached to an assembly that lowers automatically at higher speeds for better aerodynamics, supposedly. I took off the back lowering part but after some inspection decided to put it back on for the time being... might just leave it there till I replace the bumper. You’d think they’d not have all this for better approach angle on the fx4 trim.

Bought a lease return 2016 F150 4x4 Sport and have loved it -- Except for that damn dam. Besides scraping on several parking lot curbs, lot entrance dips & parking stops, another problem showed itself through her first Northern Wisconsin winter. SNOW! Hello stupid engineers: Not everyone lives in Florida & Texas (yet)!! Up here, it's not uncommon to recieve more than 4 inches of snow at a time - and about once a month November - March your talking 6" - 12"+ during a snowstorm event. Not to mention the wind driven snowdrifts you have to bust through -- and I'm not talking about off road in the forest stuff -- ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60+ MPH! How some of them have stayed on is a minor miracle. And Lord help you the day or two after, when you crunch into a left over now ice-encrusted snowplow berm. Seen many hanging down at crazy angles, going down the road just waiting to get finally peeled off completely. Anyway, good narration & 'splaining, excellent K.I.S.S. practice, good well lit, nice & close shots with a steady hand -- overall GREAT video. Of the hundreds of repair / modification videos I've viewed over the years, yours is a no doubt Top Ten entry into a sea of mediocrity. A+ work, sir!

So in reality how much does it really affect the mpg? I’ve been fixing my 15 lariat to look as much as a raptor as possible and really been considering removing the air dam so you can see the control arms and stuff. Since it has a 2 inch lift. What are your thoughts on it? Rn I get around about 17-18 mpg since it’s a 5.0

I replaced my t connector that is part of the coolant system (a known issue on the V8F150’s). Just woke up one morning and a bunch of coolant on my driveway. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fWhKyrnNhrg5o But no issue related to removing the air dam.
