Removing Protective Tape Off New Plastic Windows

Would you please show how to take it off from outside. The house windows on outside have this protective stickers even after 3 years and now very hard to take it off

Thanks for this. Wish I'd seen it before. When I took off the tape on our pvc windows, quite a lot of plaster came with it and I had to do a lot of filling.

I always plaster up to stop beads inside reveals , gives a nice clean edge that doesn't crack when the door or window is open and closed .

Excellent as always. I couldn't quite see clearly, but why PVA and water, as opposed mist coat straight away? My painters applied mist coat, 1 x coat of colour, and the tape is still on.

Our builders left a lot of tape on the windows on the top floor. It's been months and no sign of them. What can we use to remove it ourselves? We've been told it's too late and the tapes going to be impossible to take off now.

Just water down first coat of emulsion 20% to seal plaster. No paint manufacturer ever suggests PVA glue as a plaster seal.

yes but they are not professional painters and decorators... both methods work if carried out in the right manner.. you need to understand the materials involved.. if I was losing money because people where not using more of my materials, I would also tell you, you're using my materials wrong. Diluted PVA seals a surface and it also promotes adhesion with any paint applied on top. They actually sell paint primers with PVA in them also lots of wallpaper paste have added PVA... Problem occurs with PVA when people use it neat, or they come across it after a plasterer has done some patch filling.. Neat PVA is usually all around the edge of the patch which causes problems... we know all this because we deal with it as being in the trade... thanks

@@PaintingandDecorating not acceptable before applying paint. No PVA glue just diluted trade emulsion for your mist coat.

To be fair, at least you got the chance to clean off your your windows. It does my head in when builders or the house owners think they are doing you a favour by ripping it off and creating you more work by not knifing it.

Hi. Was going to do this job myself, but should I be asking our painter and decorator to do it so that it is neat? I started doing the ones in our kitchen round aluminium windows as it had already been mist coated as a favour to get our kitchen in.

White spirit is good allow it to soak.. plastic scraper.. don't use anything that is abrasive.. thanks

The installers left the plastic wrap on the windows and now its brittle and breaks up and can't be removed properly. What should I do?

White spirit eats at the glue softens it slowly.. it's a slow job.. but doable.. plastic scraper. Take your time

Is it the waterproof PVA from screw fix or the normal do you go to Stax as the foam is cheaper there

No never use waterproof when painting and decorating.

Leave the film on until you have finished painting.

It is best removed before plastering as it suggest on the tape... for once the manufacture is correct... you're better applying your own tape to the level you know where the plaster stops.. remove after plastering, then if you have to more tape before painting... generally we just cut in the paint and have a damp cloth to hand if needed.. professional. thanks
