After rust removal, I use a spritzer bottle with a 36% Phosphoric acid solution into which I kept dropping small sheets of pure zinc until it won't dissolve anymore. I then spray this directly onto the steel, which will turn dark gray. Allow to dry, wipe with a soft cloth and apply a good etch primer. Your phosphated steel won't rust for a long time, if ever. Bonus point, you can weld directly and the welds seem to become protected also. Great for protecting inside sections.

He throws in a prop covered barnacles. Barnacles are calcium and the reason the prop foams up is his product (muriatic acid) with some dye few drops of dish detergent then diluted down will dissolve the calcium and convert rust. Its all in advertising and this guy if successful will make a killing since the raw products are dirt cheap. But what do I know. :)

Rust removal demarketed: if its quick its an acid. If its very quick its a strong acid. If its extremely quick its a concentrated strong acid.

Yea, if it was as you suggest, they couldn't stick their hands in it, and would require a respirator. There are other things that react to rust besides acid. Baking Soda is one thing and it is a BASE, not acid. A strong acid would also be a problem for delicate surfaces around the rust like paint and chrome. Your elementary school analogy is just that. Elementary level thinking.

i guess its oxalic acid. You can buy the powder for some bucks. Mix it with water. I clean the gelcoat of my boat with it and get rid of the rust stains.

Thing is, the rust comes back real quick, oxidation kicks in, unless treated immediately after rust is removed. You got like less than a minute before a rust reaction starts.

aucklandmail : Although I am not certain if Muriatic Acid will turn rust black, vinegar will turn rust into black color, if on for long enough time, but don't leave it on for too long, or metal can thin out too much, use baking soda powder or paste mix which has water in it, but powder would be better.
