Do you have to undo something from underneath the front wheel area? I have unbolted everything from inside the car and the column is free but I can't pull the thing out

I guess you mean the pinch bolt. It's step 11 and 12. You don't have to do step 11, i did it from the engines side.

I'm about to undertake the same job - replaced my whole front suspension chasing the noise until I landed on the steering column.

How did you realign it to the rack? I’ve accidentally slid mine out whilst removing the subframe and I can’t figure out how to align it
