You can tie some wire to your brake rotor and to the the bolt you stick in the stub shaft and use it instead of a slide hammer for future reference. Works great. Keep up the good work

I bought the harbor freight low lift transmission jack 8yrs ago and trans jack really help with me removing the evo8 trans easier compare using to 2 floor jacks.

Reminds when I did that in an old beater 1.6 tracker 4wd I broke the clutch pedal (well its was worn when I had it) which I though clutch was bad which it wasn't clutch was fine, I did buy new clutch for it. It turned out I broke the shifter clip bracket on the transmission. After a relative put clutch in for me which I shouldve done myself car still acted like the clutch was bad. I end up selling it got what my money back from I originally paid for the beater. You might wanna look at the shifter clip bracket on the transmission, if it's worn in alot, eventually it can break from a heavy foot.

Toughest from my experience as well I’ll say it’s releasing the throw out bearing for sure! Other than that everything is very simple and easy. To answer your last question no you do not have to remove the downpipe :)

Depending on your financial status, it’s your decision to choose. I am a huge evo fan! However though I would say that your wrx is more reliable than an evo! Evos do require a lot of maintenance, they tend to fail a lot with transmission problems such as gear grinding, or transfer case problems a.k.a death whine. At the end of the day evos are very fun cars to drive, seats aren’t too comfortable for a daily driver however you’ll be breaking necks and got a good baby turbo ;)

save the money to buy new head gasket xD jk. or save it to buy upcoming nissan 400z. subi is 19 and evos are atleast 5 year old means more breakdowns and maintenance on evo compare to 19 wrx. do mechanical mods such as clutch, breaks, manifolds, etc in your budget.

Please consider buying American, although American owned the reason they're so cheap is that Harbor Freight tools are made - mostly in China - of a kind of bargain plastic that sublimates directly from solid to a gas, like dry ice, losing their mass year after year in a pungent waft of formaldehyde and pickled sea cucumber. A cheap alternative is Craftsman, but economics guides business, and i will still be a fan just hoping for conciderion.
