Great content Brandon! Your M109 journey is dope. It's cool to watch your progress from just tinkering around to legit tearing down and rebuilding your bike. The Fuel Saga is really showcasing your ability to connect with your audience, especially the way you include your thought process, while at the same time engaging your viewers for feedback. The mystery aspect of the Fuel saga is cool too... Can't wait to find out what really is the case with the M109's intermittent/selective loss of power. (Low key that Gump Gas get you Gunked Up tho! lol)

The stuff floating around in your tank is probably from the gas station. Those tanks pickup all sorts of debris when the trucks fill them up.

if it is electrical start with the wiring going to the coil packs make sure they are not corroded, also check the wiring harness to see if it has been rubbed to bare wire. hopefully you have it fixed already because one other thing it could b is cdi box or solenoid. then I would check stator or rectifier

Great trouble shooting! On my HD I have the same issue. Every once in awhile runs good next like crap. Did everything you pretty much did. I found out that my after market Willie G cap was the issue. It would after awhile loose pressure in tank that made bike run crappy. Even sometime cut fuel to the injectors. Very scary on highway. I believe everything you doing will be your success! Hasta luego!

While you had it all apart you should replace all those o-rings. Did you cut open that filter to see what is in there? If there is rubber pieces in there, then you know it went all the way through. Good job on tearing everything down.

Yeeeah. I need to change them out. Won’t this go round though. Will ride it maybe 500-1000 miles and change them off camera. Luckily, it’s not that big of a job to get to the rings for changing.

very common problem. fuel pumps last 5 -10 years then clap out.. just put in an aftermarket pump and your issues will be gone.. cost be about AUD$80 and the kit came with pump and tea bag filter, and it fixed the fuel cut out issue on mine and my mates 109R's

That stumble you had was very similar to what I had when I had a tank full of bad fuel once. Ran like shit. Idle was fine but when giving it some throttle it would stumble and splutter. Ran the tank dry and filled up from a different servo plus threw some injector cleaner into the tank and it sorted it out. You may have just had a tank full of old fuel which wasn't combusting correctly. Especially since you're not really finding anything conclusive nor could you simulate the error
@jamesjefferson96282 жыл бұрын
My thing is your test of the feul system read in spec. Knowledge of cooler air and spark runs better. Just a thought.
@OldJunk8112 жыл бұрын
Could be your regulator giving you issues but if you have a decent meter you might want to check your throttle position sensor and see if it's showing the correct resistance.
@BrandonBicasso2 жыл бұрын
Thought about it. Considering it pulled the necessary psi when testing, ruled that out. Still could be in the throttle body area, though.
@bikepimp72 Жыл бұрын
It was your gas cap breather hole that made it run like crap.. mine has done this a few times over the years.. The bike will act weird, bog out, seeming like it's not getting fuel, it will chog and pop.. Then I noticed after opening my cap to make sure there was gas, it would go back to running pretty much normal again.. then later it's like it never happened..

If you had to buy one between the M109R new and a Vrod Muscle(used obviously), wich one would you choos? And why? Ive always loved the Vrod, and finally have some money to get one OR this recently discovered also awesome looking M109r, because on paper the m109r its way better, more HP, the cardan shaft i love it, the bike would be new, cool design....so Im struggling...because in the end the vrod is the god damn VROD, and shit in the end its baffling me that even doe on paper the obvious choice is the M109r.....its a susuki....and I like more the Harley Vrod. Still thinking filter. Every time I've had issues that you're describing has been the fuel filter and/or bad gas
@BrandonBicasso2 жыл бұрын
But two bad filters back to back? So definitely bad gas possibly
@paleridersteelhorse49232 жыл бұрын
I've had it happen on multiple vehicles pickup, snowmobile, 4 wheeler, boat and bike. Usually, cars and trucks can handle crapier gas but, toys not so much( I'm it has to do with the tighter tolerance). I've had it where gas trashes filters and just bad filters. I'm not saying that's exactly what's going on with yours. I'm just saying I've had the experience lol.

Couldn't the filter be turning gray or black just because of the filter media? I've seen the same thing with water filters. They use carbon media to filter. When they are saturated they have a black stained appearance but still work as intended.

1:02-1:06, did I see brown-orange down there? Hm. Looks looks rust to me hehehe. Mirror is a bad way to look inside, barely see anything. Check "endoscope phone camera", could be had for like 10 usd. A friend of mine had several rust spots around the corner seams, before we stuck camera inside it looked clean)- Also, dont quote me on it, but: You think there is some gunk stuck inside the fuel pump. Check around, but if it would be mine, I would pump ~2 liters of 50/50 vinegar+water followed by ~4l of distilled water through it. Will clean it right up. Or, weak citric acid (coffee machine descaler) Though, I doubt it is clogged, whatever it was we are talking very small quantities. btw, was the bike sitting for long before you noticed those issues?
@BrandonBicasso2 жыл бұрын
Looks like a bit there huh. Gonna take some steel wool and give it a quick brushing. Could’ve flash rusted from leaving it exposed a few times.
@Kashak6662 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonBicasso I wouldn't go with the steel wool there. Chemical way would be better imo. Rust converter\tank sealer kit should do it. See, the thing with rust is that _you never see all of it_. Though, it does look fresh and limited to the mating surface of the pump, so my bet is that it is the result of leaving it exposed. Disclaimer: I have a bit of an issue about rust. I kind of lost my first car to it. So, now I probably overkill every time I see it. All in all, your tank looks fine. That is what fuel filter is there for. We had a bike where ~60% of the inside of the tank was rusted and it still run fine. A carbureted bike. Filter was an "94 original", tiny inline thing and quite black. Naturally, it was not dyno'ed, but butt dyno said it goes ok. (was an overhaul project) And, if you do decide to go the chemical way _follow the goddamn manual_ xD Too many stories of people not dealing with the existing rust and just pouring sealant in it. The basic procedure is: 0. remove the existing dirt ust (usually low-mid concentration acid or base, hot, give or take 20 min sit filled _to the brim_). 1. rinse to prepare for sealant (has do be done directly after the cleansing, otherwise remainders of acid will give the opposite effect. Usually distilled water, 2-3 flushes) 3. seal (some sort of gasoline-stable epoxy, some just slosh around, some fill to the brim and let sit for a couple of hours) 4. dry and rinse. But again, do follow the manual that comes with the particular chemistry you get. with this you can basically restore a rust bucket to a pristine condition. it is a straight forward procedure but does require to think ahead and be prepared for the whole procedure hehehe.
