removing trunk and saddlebags

I had a 2010 Voyager, and used to take the trunk off to change the tire. Someone told me to remove the side bags, disconnect the shocks at the lower bolts and raise the bike. The wheel will drop, as you raise the bike. You then remove the axle and wheel.. It's supposed to be a lot easier, and faster than removing the trunk. I traded the bike recently, so didn't get a chance to try it.
