Yes, you got the meaning. Ren has said how these depression pills just used to numb him and made him feel like he was a zombie. To me the beginning of this video symbolises separation of Ren's soul from his 'outer self'. As he walks down the corridor he fumbles through what could be files of memories maybe. Then you hear voices far away. To me that is the World interacting with what's left of Ren after taking his pills..hence the chalk outlines. This is also why they're both in white; they are the chalk 'filling' so to speak and as you memtioned can symbolise the purity of the soul. Finally he reaches a chair and slams it open. Many have mentioned this is both to make a point for to notice the reverb in the room but mainly bc the proper name of the fear of being ok is actually called 'cherophobia'. How cool is that! How to be Me is another great duet with them both. Again, make sure to select the live version. Chinchilla on her own is amazing as well. Try her song Fingers live for Hunger TV or 1:5 for great vocals. For something more upbeat try Cut You Off (official video) and Little Girl Gone (also video but I suggest a double reaction for that one bc the live version is a completely different feel and is fab too). Hopefully you will be able to do another reaction soon. Congrats on the new job! 👍

Initially, I was relieved to have some respite from my mental suffering, but after a while I felt like I was no longer me, just the walking dead, playing a part in life, but not engaged. I thought I was afraid of the loss of control, and that might be part of it, but I think you are right, it’s essentially about losing what makes you “you”.

I remember Ren talking about a hallucination he had at 15 of hearing about a 100 people talking when he was alone on tbe bus with the driver. I think of this at the murmuring and buzzing in tbe hallway. I think they are depicting life in a hospital and the side effects of the medication they are on. The snappung chair??? Cheirophobia= fear of being happy...because all thing change.

To me it feels like a couple of patients in a hospital that meet up and share the same despair over their treatment. Chalk outlines speak to me as, what the medication does to you. At first you feel numb and the pain goes, but eventually that is all you are. Just a shell, a chalk outline. I was writing this just as you made the same realisation. LOL.

I agree with a few reactors who say he has a voice that takes you to the story. How to be Me is another similar banger with Chinchilla. albamartinez4987 has it right about depression. And when you are on these anti-depressives you just are no longer yourself, its hard to truly get unless you have been there. An early masterpiece is Crutch, its quite a heavy song though.

Ren has exceptional vocals! I think it's sad that so many people only seem to be impressed by 'belting', or singing in a high register. Both of which Ren is more than capable of btw, as you'll discover. :) However there's so much more than good singing than that and Ren understands this perfectly. :) As I said Ren has incredible vocals, capable of a multitude of voices, styles and tones and his tone is always beautiful! He has power, a wide vocal range and absolutely immaculate control! His control is so good, that it allows him to play around on the edge, which I absolutely love! He's a huge fan of Jeff Buckley and his vocals have been frequently compared to Buckley's, so it's no surprise. That vocal freedom, combined, paradoxically, with immaculate control, is just incredible. He employs lots of delicate little vocal touches and subtle nuances that seem to go unnoticed by many but which, for me, place him in the top rank of singers! Dozens of vocal coach reactors seem to agree! :) He understands vocal light and shade implicitly, always has real vocal character and every syllable drips with raw emotion! A first class vocalist! However you may need to hear/see a few more of his vocal performances, for evidence of what I'm claiming. For me, personally, this is one of my favourite vocal performances by Ren. As you may have guessed, lol. :)

Glad to hear you enjoy your job. Nothing worse than dreading work each day. Ha, ha, if you think Ren is just a "nice" singer; you have some treats in store for you!!! He seems to leave most vocal coaches in awe, and other reaction singers a wee bit (pea?) green around the gills! No need to ask if you will be checking out Chinchilla's catalogue. They refer to each other as musical siblings. I understand Daisy is a bit shy and the nails help her get into character as Chinchilla. Wait till you see her costumes, and hats she makes. Perhaps *Fingers, or *1:5 live version...?

The best musical “siblings”. Ren has called her his sister from another mister and a female version of himself due to their similar approach to music. For me I think it shows in the fact that they both have that something special that draws you in and demands attention. To see it fully for Chinchilla, check out her live version of Fingers. This song always reminds me that one of the (many) things that makes Ren so great is his ability to know exactly when to be complex, keep it simple, or even use silence to get his message across. He isn’t flexing his guitar skills in this, just playing exactly what is needed with that beautiful guitar tone. And my favourite line in this is so simple, totally devoid of all the clever metaphors that he is so good at using, but it hits soooo hard: “I’m scared of being okay cause all things change”. I think anyone who has been through any struggles can relate to that feeling of not trusting that anything good will last. You can’t just enjoy it because you’re busy worrying about how long it will last and the feeling that will come when it’s gone. And then good days just make the darkness feel so much worse because you remember the light that’s gone… Ren is so special. He keeps being so relatable that it reminds us that we’re not alone. And we will always make room for more RENegades down the Ren rabbit hole cause we all need his light in the darkness 🐰🕳️ If you want more emotional singing from Ren, please check out one of my personal favourites: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before he was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. It is heart wrenching and beautiful. And very different from everything else in his catalogue.

I think the underwater voices at the beginning are probably something to do with a similar auditory hallucination Ren said he had on a bus when he was fairly young, before the beginning of his Lyme disease symptoms. I'm not sure how it relates, other than the fact the song is about mental illness. So it goes... I think is a Kurt Vonnegurt reference, one of Ren's favourite authors. It's from Slaughterhouse 5.
