He has Lyme Disease, misdiagnosed as mental illness & treated thusly for YEARS while the Lyme's continued to ravage his body & damage his brain. A doctor in Belgium finally caught it. He's currently in Canada, undergoing another round of stem cell therapy. If you want to hear a song that really illustrates what he's capable of as a singer, check out "Chalk Outlines (live)." He's also in a band called The Big Push. There are three vocalists in the band who sort of trade off taking the lead, & they do these lush, AMAZING harmonies. Give "It's Alright" a listen. His collabs with Sam Tompkins are fantastic as well. "Blind-Eyed" is an original composition of theirs. Note: All three of the recommendations I've made here are, like "Hi Ren," LIVE PERFORMANCES. He's a street busker in Brighton, & excels at many styles & genres: rap & reggae, punk & pop, rockers, ballads, you name it, Ren nails it! ✌🏼

His mother is a professional vocal coach and her son, Ren, is one of those most rare artists that only happen in single digit numbers every decade or so. That's my opinion obviously, but the more of his work you listen to / watch the harder it becomes to disagree. He truly has talent oozing from every square inch of himself. The rhyme schemes, wordplay, and limitless ability to change cadence when he raps is just astounding. His singing voice is nothing short of angelic. He has range, dynamics, control, power, technique, deep knowledge of music theory... (insert yr choice of traits necessary for great art). Genius is far too often used in describing those who are just really good at something. I feel comfortable using that word to describe Ren. It's been 25 years since ANY musical act or artist has moved me like this dude. He's different in all the best ways

@@scottw5253 lol, you're very good with words 💗Already enjoyed you first comment with condensed background on Ren and how you feel about him, that was an excellent description in a nutshell, and now that goosebumpsy squid had me laugh out loud... I might add Ren x Chinchilla "How To Be Me" (live), imo as good as, if not even better than, "Chalk Outlines" - and I have to point out Chinchilla, who is a great artist in her own rights and gets by far not enough attention and appreciation, especially now as Ren is blowing up and Chinchilla made some great contributions to it, both "Chalk Outlines" and "How To Be Me" are among the top songs by Ren to be suggested and reacted to, and they would not be what they are (masterpieces of duet singing) without her. Ren fans should visit and sub to her channel and show her some love, she deserves it! 💗💗💗

Ren is simply incredible, a musical genius. A modern Shakespeare. Check out "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full), to see that this is not an exaggeration. He is part of a band in Brighton (England) called "The Big Push", who make some of their own stuff, as well as a lot of cover music. Ren can do writing, acting story telling, rap, hip-hop, guitars, drums, piano, reggae and much more. The majority of his own videos are recorded by a good friend of his, and done in one take. May not be the 1st take, but one take nonetheless. A generational talent.

Ren has been misdiagnosed for many years and treated for depression and other stuff he didn't have. Eventually he was correctly diagnosed for Lyme disease... But some damage was made. As far as I understand, he lives what he's singing. And pretty much everyone I know can relate to this thing, at many different levels. He's a recent discovery for me, but heck, he's profound and intense and authentic and super touching (I cry every time I hear this song... Even now). I've been a Clinical Psychologist for more than 20 years, and I'd make every one in my profession to watch and LISTEN to this one. And probably to his other things... I'm just beginning to discover him 🙂. Thank you for your reaction, I loved it. See you next time.

@@bobcieslinski "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... " 😉😁 I was going to rant a bit about my profession and the things I see about it, but... You're safe for now 😅. About "how we do it"... Let's say that one of the first things one learns is a different way of empathy. And yes, it's anyway a consuming profession... 🙂 But it's fascinating and beautiful, and when one client becomes able to "walk on her/his feet", and cope with Life, that's an indescribable feeling. But we must remember, all the time, that it's not "us" who did the job. It's the CLIENT. 🙂 We kinda lead them through a path that is theirs. We know the STRUCTURE, but not the contents, at least in the way I used to work with. THEY know their solutions... They just don't know that they know. It's complicated 😅.

This was another very enjoyable reaction. No matter how many times I watch this, I still get emotional. “Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered more than 6 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than ten years. Ren’s music videos are generally recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. His release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." Many of Ren’s songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day. Ren plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, drums), has impressive vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern bard; he calls his music “bardcore.” Ren’s earliest recordings on KZbin are from his time in a band called “Trick The Fox,” consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren’s onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is “The Mash Up.” Ren’s trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master’s class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal. Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me,” “Sexual Healing,” “One Dance/Drunk in Love”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren’s Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out “The Hunger,” “Genesis,” “What You Want,” “Losing it (FISHER rap retake),” “Right here, right now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake),” "Life is Funny," “Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3),” “Crucify Your Culture,” “Power,” and his latest release, “Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake).” As I recently discovered, Ren also recorded a cover of “Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover),” that is simply beautiful. Then there are his performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the moon/No Diggity”), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”), which are all great. "The Big Push" busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are awesome and well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," “War Pigs,” "My Generation," "An Englishman in New York," “Bongo Bong,” the songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Watch Out," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. The band performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo medical treatment for his multiple health issues, including surgeries. In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next six months that he expects to be gone. He released “Sick Boi” and “Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake),” which is another masterful work. Ren has hinted that he might release his newest song on March 29, which is his birthday.

I am told this was recorded live, and was the 4th attempt at completing it in a single take. I think this is a fantastic song and performance! He shows the two sides/voices in a stunning way. To me it is really about mental illness and struggle. These words after the song are very well spoken I think: ”It was a pendulum eternally swaying from the dark to the light and the more intensely that the light shone the darker the shadow it casts. It was never really a battle for me to win, it was an eternal dance. Like a dance, the more rigid I became the harder it got. The more I cursed my clumsy footsteps the more I struggled. So I got older and I learned to relax and I learned to soften and that dance got easier”

OK so Ren is a musician but this song ( it is far more than a mere song ) is not simply relating to musicians, it is a much more universal message ( Ren just happens to be a musician ) It is a song to the very soul of EVERYONE who has suffered with mental health problems. It is a HUGE message of hope and understanding. Understanding that YOU are not alone in your turmoil. ALL real people suffer this internal dichotomy. Ren is reaching out to " sufferers " to say " It is OK, we ALL have this Yin and Yang process to cope with, just learn to relax. Do not beat yourself up. It is perfectly normal to have to deal with the positive and negative ... it is what makes us humans. So ; embrace it. Dance with it. Stay in control. ............. This is art at its highest level by a musician who is totally switched on. I sincerely believe REN can pull down the ridiculously controlled and contrived " MUSIC BIZ " by simply being himself and sharing his art ... WITHOUT THE VULTURES !

Hey man nice meeting you. First-time visitor to your channel, loved the reaction it was very good. I discovered Ren like 4 days ago and I've been doing nothing but watching reactions to this amazing performance. Basically the beginning of the song is his Evil side talking him down and telling him he can't amputate it - which is true because we are all good and evil. The middle of the song is when evil get so upset with Ren arguing with it that it takes over as Ren's dominant personality. Then the last part of the song is the Good side, the godly side, rising up and saying that Evil cannot have him because Good is just as much a part of Ren also, and the two sides must work together to make his life better. And then at the end Ren is singing and dancing and the evil is flashing the lights chaotically, signifying that they are indeed all joined and going to work okay together. And that is what we all must do, as human beings, we must accept that we are both a Good and Evil, and work with that. -At least that is what I personally took away from this piece amazing music theater.

This guy's a Welsh born Brightonian getting through treatment in Canada. As a 61 year-old, I thought I'd heard it all. As many have said, a generational talent. Yes, this performance outlines very serious delusion/hallucination, and there's a whole discussion to be had about that, beyond but not excluding 'voices of doubt'. This is revolutionaty in tackling the boundary between well and sick, in mind and body. We can all relate. That removes some fear about 'voices'. While retaining respect for those whose voices are very real, threatening, and destructive. Dialogue always.

I've been so excited for this vid to drop! Ren has an incredible catalog that shows his amazingly versatile skills. He is a true artist to his core, a beautiful storyteller. I'm equally excited to see if you give us more reactions to his variety of work. From busking with Sam Tompkins, to his band The Big Push, & all his independent music. His talent is limitless. I've seen several comments mentioning excellent songs to continue your journey with, & I echo those sentiments. Sick Boi, The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)-it includes Violet's tale, & is best experienced as the full trilogy vs each song independently imo; & Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla. Those 3, along with Hi Ren, are generally the most recommended by almost all of us that have fallen under Ren's bard spell, & even so, they barely scratch the surface of this man's gifts.

The clothing of choice matches the title of his yet unreleased album which is titled 'Sick Boi'. A bit of background for you, He was misdiagnosed with Bipolar for 5 years before finally getting a diagnosis of Lyme disease. Since getting the correct diagnosis, he has undergone two stem cell transplants that Ren credits for saving his life. He is now in Canada undergoing further treatment for Brain damage caused by the Lyme disease, and other illnesses. I highly encourage you to delve deep into the Ren rabbit hole. His talent doesn't end at his guitar playing. He is a singer, songwriter, rapper, multi instrumentalist, poet, story teller. essentially, he is an incredibly talented, well rounded musician. He is also in a band called The Big Push, although they are currently on a hiatus because of ongoing treatments, as well as other personal circumstances for the other band members. They are known worldwide for being one of the best busking bands. Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole, i hope you enjoy your stay. I compare him to pringles, one song isn't enough, and before you know it, you have been in the rabbit hole for hours on end and still amazed at the diversity in this man's talents.

Glad you connected with it. There’s no shortage of trauma in this world today. Those who teach others, especially youngsters will see it Music is a healer. Great reaction. I recommend for hearing his singing voice “Chalk Outlines”. To see more of the theatrical performance which showcase his amazing guitar skills and take you on a journey react to “the tale of Jenny and Screech” (Full Version)…it has to include “violet’s tale” at the end. Here I am a 54 year old woman who feels deeply connected to Ren and his work. I’ve wrestled with the dark voices in my head my whole life. His vulnerability and courage to open up has resonated with millions. It’s something we all think about, but battle often times alone. It’s nice to be reminded it’s part of the human condition and we’re not alone.

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative ten makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.

Excellent reaction! Many moons ago (1970's) I was a band and orchestra student (trombone player), and also took up guitar and sang in rock bands and folk clubs. And yes, the "shadow voice" always shadowed me, sometimes sabotaging me in the middle of a performance. I wish I had heard and seen Ren's great piece of performance art back then, and learned to dance with the shadow instead of trying to kill it. 🙂

@@bobcieslinski Yes! Very well put. I used to compare myself with other musicians, which is an ego-oriented thing to do.. As time went on, I began to realize that I was trying to compare an apple to an orange, so to speak. You can't say that an apple is "better" than an orange 😂.
