I'm surprised I haven't heard more reactors acknowledge the "loosen the noose on the rope" line. As far as I'm concerned that is the most powerful line in the whole song.

Definitely! Not just the line but the way he delivers it. I discovered Ren in 2018 when I came across Blind eyed with Him.and Sam Tompkins, never looked back. There are many of his songs with great messages. Dominos is brilliant and also terrifying when you have a 14yo daughter. Chalk outlines and Humble with Eden Nash also show his vocal abilities well !

It depends on whether they've been touched by suicide. On whether they've been near it or attempted it themselves, or if they've lost someone to suicide. If you watch reactors, you can see it in their eyes just after he says that line. Anyone who's been that close to suicide knows the sound of that voice as you loosen the noose on the rope.

You know something is good when your initial reaction is "oh god its 9 minutes" then you're so drawn in and captivated that you don't even realize the 9 minutes have already gone by and you're left wanting more. Also i see a lot of reacts videos where they scoff at the initial "whoo hooo hooo hooo" some even ask if they're being joked. Then after he's taken them through this powerful emotional journey and rises in the end singing his glorious song of victory "whoo hoo hooo hoo" they are practically in tears cheering him on. Such a great masterpiece.
@maggiereneemusic

100% you just covered my exact journey listening to this song. Except the scoffing… as soon as I heard the way he played the guitar I had no doubts of his musicianship which is why I didn’t comment on the dissonance of his whooo hoos because I felt I might be mistaken and I was happy to learn throughout the Reaction and then at the very end when he created the exact same dissonance that I was correct in that assumption and that he had in fact INTENTIONALLY created those dissonances. (They are the same chromatic pitches at the beginning And the end, which is how I knew for sure.) BRILLIANT!

Agreed. I think almost anyone who has had any kind of mental health struggle, which is really almost all of us, can relate to this song. He put into words all the struggles, all the doubts, all positives and negatives we fight with. It is a song about being real, about being vulnerable, about being human. The most shocking thing about this song is that it is shocking. It simply says what most of us have thought our entire lives but never said out loud. We all have our own variations of this, but we hold it inside, try to push it down, hide it, pretend it doesn't exist. But here it is, laid out, raw, exposed, real. I am you, you are me, you are I, we are we, split in 2, that makes 1, so you see. Until we recognize this, embrace it and accept it, we can't truly heal.

Here's a bit of a left field suggestion. There's a Japanese Vtuber (virtual KZbinr) named Hoshimachi Suisei (pronounced Swee-say) who recently appeared on The First Take. The First Take is a japanese KZbin channel which primarily features well known Japanese artists, as well as artists from across the world, and every video they post is (as the name suggests) the First (and only) take. Vtubers are streamers who instead of using a camera to show their real face, use an animated avatar (2d or 3d) using either facial tracking or full body motion capture. Despite mainly being a streamer, Suisei is a talented Singer and is the first Vtuber to appear on the show. Also, Her song Stellar Stellar appeared there 2 weeks ago and has already got 8.6 million views.

I've seen this so many times and I swear I find more brilliant subtleties in it the more I watch. That initial negative voice actually has a slight tone of panic and fear about it. Ren's more positive voice starts out calm and in control but the negative voice keeps undermining it until the point the positive voice says "It's not like that!" and really begins to sound unassured. It's when the more positive voice loses confidence and control that the dark side really takes over. That strong swing of the pendulum though allows that possibility of the positive voice to come back stronger too. When the vocalising part resumes later then unlike the first time the lights are now going crazy as there is an acceptance of both sides inside of him but his singing actually sounds more joyous and committed than the first time as if he will continue to sing whatever the dark side throws his way. This really is an incredible piece of art.
@Alan_Duval
@Alan_Duval Жыл бұрын
There are subtle pointers throughout to the precarious position of the negative voice, like right near the start where he says "it's not your place to be biting off the hand that feed **me**." There are other little lyrical bits like that, where a common phrase is given a twist to show that ballsy negative voice is actually acting from a place of fear and bravado.

Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece. I have been watching reactions to this for two days now. There is something pretty incredible going on with this video in particular. It's not the stunning performance, the deep and touching lyrics or even the amazing amount of talent. It's the reactions that are being generated. I have seen reactors and people in the comments relating tales of their own personal struggles. There are things being discussed that before weren't even whispered. We all have inner struggles and demons that we have to go through. Whether it's doubt, self esteem, addiction or mental health issues. This is so relatable to people in all walks of life. Because of that, people all over the internet are finding a connection in an unexpected place. Each other. It's reaching many who feel alone. Even if that is all they feel. There is someone else out there that feels the same way. I believe that with this one song, he has proven his own words true. He IS a genius and the waves that he has created are more like a tsunami. I think his music, may more important than he could ever imagine.

This song has hit me harder than I though any song could. There are parts that could have been written specifically for me and my journey so far, especially about spending more than half my life being ill, also about being made to be tested and twisted, being made to be broken and beat, that's been the story of my life for over 30 years and sadly loosen the noose on the rope even fits like a glove too. @@glenntucker1495 What’s your point? That has nothing to do with what I was responding to. Thanking the reactor after the fact doesn’t mean he’s “the first artist to see the value of spreading his music through reactors”. Asking reactors to react to your music is more relevant to that statement, than just thanking them afterwards. And I have seen so many small artists like REN thank the reactors for doing their music video. This isn’t new at all. The only thing different is how quickly this has gone viral and everyone is reacting to it.

@@roems6396 "There have been musicians going back for several years that directly message reactors asking them to react to their music" THIS is why it matters. You implied that he contacted the reactors to react to his videos. That ISN'T what was done. There is a big difference between soliciting reactions vs thanking reactors for doing it on their own. You can't honestly say you don't see a difference can you? Others may have done it in the past but I watch a lot of videos and read lots of comments and I don't see it often. He is currently in treatment now and he has his father reaching out and thanking reactors...that is going above and beyond what I have seen anyone do. Yes. The tale of Jenny and Screech (Full) is a must watch. The first video I saw of him was Hi Ren. I didn't think it could get any better and then the last part of the trilogy of Jenny and Screech blew my mind. He also does a live version of Jenny and Screech in front of an audience. Absolutely the best thing out there right now

I watched this the first time a month or two ago and I have watched several reactions, including from seasoned musicians. It is incredibly powerful and I needed to listen to it a few times to get all the lines and references. He lives not far from me, in Brighton U.K., busking on the streets but I hope he reaches a wider audience. As I have suffered from depression for a long time now lots of the words resonated. He is a poet of the time we live in. Andy UK

The thing I appreciate about Ren and his art (more then being vulnerable or honest) - is his ability to wrap it all in a inspiration rather then depression. When you hear this song - you are not upset, you feel the energy to go on and continue. Some people might call this motivation, but I think this is more about "love of life".

Ren has the same gift for "conversational cadence" that Eminem has... And (just like Em) I'm 100% positive Ren's life experience was necessary for him to be chosen to create this, this _art_ that transcends music/entertainment There is an arresting, visceral, genuine and transcendent nature to this. Ren's genius is that, even in a video... we are still transported into a new "moment"... as if we are there, witnessing _and connecting_ to this in its moment of creation. Even re-watching it takes one right back to that place. This is more than music, more than entertainment.... It's something else.

Ren is probably going to pop into your comment section just so you are aware! I’ve seen this video about 40 times now in the last few days. I wanna see reactors be touched by the message and you were. People are too surface level these days and it’s so refreshing to see an artist of this talent be raw and reach into your soul to wake it up a little. Thanks for reacting and giving an honest soulful opinion.

Im a year late to the conversation. But your comment about REN being the only one to say his quiet part out loud (I’m paraphrasing). I am reminded of the song “Breathe (2 a.m.)” by Anna Nalick. It’s not THIS level of honesty, but it does include the following: [Verse 3] 2 AM and I'm still awake writing a song If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me Threatening the life it belongs to And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd 'Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud And I know that you'll use them however you want to

That guitar composition is fucking unreal. The dynamics are perfect. The chaos he captures when his subconscious takes over is perfectly captured. Perfect use of an acoustic guitar with nylon strings. I'm just blown away. And the crazy thing is the lyrics, the performance, and the genre shifting almost overshadow the brilliance of the guitar. Damn. That was fucking good.

I know the Queen of the Night well but the way he sang it was definitely not something I would have picked up. I can see where you’re coming from but I personally don’t hear that as a real connection. I wonder if Ren has commented on it because it would be cool if he got inspired by that for this.

WE have gotten SO used to the garbage music of the last 20 years, written by a committee of 20 "songwriters", sung with Auto-Tune (so you have NO idea what the artist's REAL voice sounds like) that when something like this comes along, it's SO shocking. Ren is a Singer, a Rapper, a Composer, a Songwriter, a Musician, an Actor....an Artist. We Need to support artists like Ren and let the garbage music die a painful death. Ren is throwback between the singer/songwriters of the 70s and 16th century bards. He is a once in lifetime Artist.
