Okay, so the song is about his internal struggle with self doubt and his shadow self. He is portraying the dark side of his ego, that part we all have, that constantly antagonizes him from the back of his mind in the name of "reason" and "keeping it real." In many religious circles, including traditional Judaism and ancient Christian roots, Satan is called "The Adversary" and fulfills this role for each of us, which is why Ren ends up breaking down into a section identifying as Lucifer. At the end, when he's "lecturing" you, what he's really doing is telling you his truth and the background of why he wrote the song in the first place. He's giving context. He had a record contract with Sony but got Lyme disease and was misdiagnosed with mental illness. Doctors gave him medications that ended up inducing medical psychosis while the Lyme disease ravaged his body and gave him an autoimmune disorder among other horrible medical issues. Despite his myriad health issues, he ended up pursuing his musical career, inventing his own musical style called "bardcore," and becoming incredibly successful. You should really give him more respect.

Ren is a journey. For many of us this song triggered a journey down a rabbit hole. Obviously you know this song went and continues to be pretty viral. This isn't even the song that showcases the best of his storytelling. It's not the song that shows the best of his singing, his rapping, or his showmanship. Ren could have been a big thing at a very young age before he got sick. And now he is a big thing because he got sick, in the way I remember underground artists got big in the 80s and 90s: word of mouth. Oh and... you all should know this was a live recording done in a single take. You're welcome.

Ren comes from Wales, part of the UK. He was mistreated for mental disorders and other issues for 8 years (and being told that his problems were all in his head) before he was finally, and correctly, diagnosed with Lyme disease - by which time all the damage to his body had been done. For the last year or so he has been in Canada receiving stem cell treatment to try and repair as much of the damage as they can.

He's not receiving stem cell treatment. He's had 2 stem cell transplants in the past but the treatments in Calgary have consisted of a whole range of treatments, mostly experimental. They reckon they've successfully rid his body of Lyme's and are trying to repair some of the damage to his body and brain. Some associated pathogens are also proving more difficult to eradicate. He also retains his severe autoimmunity, unfortunately, largely because it's caused by another chronic condition, Mast Cell Disease or MCAS, which he also has. It's also more worrying than Lyme's, in some ways, as it can't be halted, only slowed.

Btw, the song's about the human condition generally, not mental illness or chronic illness. He speaks through the lens of his own experience, so they feature because they've been a big part of his experience. He's suffered like you wouldn't believe. I suggest you listen again because this seemed to go totally over your heads, lol. Btw, one of the lines is now redundant, as he became the first fully independent artist to achieve a numnber 1 album, knocking Drake off the top spot. It also went top 10 in several other countries, topped the US hip-hop album chart and topped the worldwide iTunes chart! Btw, if you think this is Ren showing you 'all his talent' you're in for a shock! You have no idea of the breadth and depth of his talent, in all genres! Keep reacting to Ren. You'll be amazed and will understand why every label under the Sun has tried to sign Ren and why he's received praise from across the music industry! The thing is, you need to listen. He didn't show a fraction of his talent in this song. His versatility, in singing alone is amazing. Maybe if you listen to two of his latest mashups, you'll acknowledge it.
