❤️💚💙💜Ren just turned 34. From age 19-26 he was mostly bedbound at home suffering from undiagnosed/misdiagnosed Lyme disease that ravaged his body, then mind. A stem cell transplant in 2016 slowly brought him back to about 70% or so. Since then he's been making up for time playing and rapping as well as trying to cure many of the other ailments related to the Lyme going untreated for so many years. He's a solo independent artist that sings, raps, directs produces, and mixes and masters his work on most of his music so far.

In all of the reactions I’ve watched for this song, which is a lot, nobody has asked why “next Jimi Hendrix”. Jimi was part of a giant coincidences where famous people, usually musicians, died at age 27. Jimi, Janice Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Mama Cass. There are more, but they’re from genres I don’t listen to, so I can’t recall their names.

Also "next Jimi Hendrix" could also relate to his busking where like Hendrix he plays with the creative freedom of a guitar. Like the busking video he has with Sam Tompkins, (Falling, Earned it, Mans world) where Ren played the most Hendrix rendition I've heard outside of Gary Clark Jr.
@denalinde4 ай бұрын
@@goatkiller666He’s straight up talked about his admiration for Jimi’s ability to channel his playing from somewhere beyond this world. It’s ironic that even before I knew that I’ve thought Ren had that same ability more than once. Watch his freestyle jam session with Liv Sangster to see it in action. 💜

I think the renegades would really appreciate you going down the rabbit hole. With a few exceptions we are a supportive and rather passionate little cult. Ren had a couple of successes and a couple of viral videos before Hi Ren, but his description of his music following in this song was true. He had about 300 000 followers on youtube when Hi Ren came out. They had taken a lot of time rehearsing and setting up for the video, but by the time they were ready to shoot, the owner of the building came in and told them to leave. They got half an hour from him and managed four takes live in that time. This is number four. Ren thought he'd messed it up, but the video spoke to people, and he didn't stop growing since. I remember the first million views, which were followed, funnily enough, by it being played on the radio. His fans grew like crazy, many of us grateful for being heard and spoken for. He produced an album called Sick Boi last year with next to no conventional publicity, no live performances, almost no TV, bandit beat Rick Astley to number 1 in the UK. Ren is hugely versatile. There is still the tale of Jenny and Screech as a masterful performance piece, and the rest are more typical songs. What genre? Well you can never know before he opens his mouth. His latest shoutout was Russel Crowe who spoke very highly of him. Fanbase is between 5 and 90 years old, all musical tastes, all walks of life, all political orientations. Glad you found us and we found you. Enjoy the ride.

This doesn't follow the format.... yup, that's Ren. The amazing part of Ren's music is you've watched 2 so far, both 9+ minutes long and you were engaged the whole time. Most of Ren's videos are done with less than $1000 budget (at least to date) with the exception of Money Game 3. A large majority, like this are live and 1 shot. (he's had video's that have taken over 100 attempts to get that 1 shot). Ren is his own production team. He writes, performs and produces his own stuff. There are some he even did most of the filming (or set up all the shots and directed the whole thing.) That's why his stuff resonates. He is in every part of all of it so you see his unfiltered vision.

What's next? That's the question 😁 If you wanted more theater, guitar playing, great acting by Ren, I would choose Tales of Jenny and Screech (choose the full version, over 13 minutes long). Would you prefer Ren rapping, I would choose The Hunger, Sick Boi, Illest of our time, Genesis, Murderer, Wicked Ways, Nas Retake or his latest, very important song Troubles. Or maybe you want to hear Ren's vocal abilities, I would choose Chalk Outlines, How to be me or one of the newer ones Back to 74-message in a bottle retake. Ren was also in a band called The Big Push, they performed mainly on the street and their live videos are amazing, I recommend I shot the sheriff, Paint it Black, War Pigs (choose the video where Ren has red suspenders, better quality) Wade in the water /Nina Simone. Ren also plays the piano, Mackay's song is must. Great reaction, looking forward to the next one😊❤

I'd like to recommend something that shines a light on Ren's rapping skills. "Genesis" or "the Hunger". Ren is a real talent. Singing, multi-instrumentalist, beat boxing, rapping, beat making (most of the beats he has are his own, though some overzealous fans try to say otherwise), directing, writing...you get the picture. He's also got an animated video that reminds me a bit of that video of yours that you sampled here. Really nice work from both of you on that btw.

As regards to originality, Ren has often said that nothing is original and that he borrows from the past, but pays homage to the artists who inspired him to make his "new" sound. Many of the Renegades are from a generation older than Ren's - possibly partly because a lot of his influences (hip hop, reggae, punk) are from the 80s/90s, but also because his values represent an earlier time i.e. compassion, integrity, authenticity, empathy (with a side order of healthy rebellion)

One thing to consider about this music is that this is the music that blew him up on the internet. He had been doing music for a very long time, he had even been signed to a subsidiary of Sony when he was about 19, to which he couldn't keep his contract obligations because of his illnesses and they parted. Nevertheless after several years constantly bed ridden he had gotten himself a small but dedicated following. And he a was well known street performer in Brighton (UK). This music catapulted him, but when listened to, one has to consider the lyrics are from someone who is and knows he is a relative unknown artist.

Ren was never in any institution, but he spent like 7-8 years stuck in bed, mostly at his mom's house. His mental health issues were a side-effect of being repeatedly misdiagnosed. Turns out he has Lyme Disease, an infection that can be caused by a tick bite. Years of leaving that infection untreated, coupled with medical treatments he didn't actually need ravaged both his body and mind. He finally got the right diagnosis and when treatment started, he started to get better. He still lives with daily pain and probably will for life.

Ren had just signed a contract with Sony for his first big album. Then he was bed ridden with pain. Sony dropped the contract and for the next several years he was bounced around from doctor to doctor who continually pushed stronger and stronger psychoactive drugs on him. Non of them worked. He eventually went back to live with his mom and was wasting away. 23 out of 24 hours a day were in bed. He still had full body pain and the drugs would often leave him in psychosis and hallucinations. Eventually he found a doctor that correctly diagnosed him with Lyme Disease from a tic bite. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that affects your nerves and even your brain. He is now in a stem cell treatment program in Canada to help him recover what the Lyme disease and they years of psychiatric drugs had done to his body. Sick Boi covers the problems he had with doctors. And Troubles covers a bit of what he went through. Hi REN covers the internal struggle he went through once he was well enough to start singing again. He is a truly unique artist that has changed lives and has made a difference in this world.

To grasp the full meaning of this performance, here is a brief Ren bio : when Ren was 17, one of his best friends committed suicide, and Ren felt responsible ---- about that time he contracted Lyme disease ---- was MIS-diagnosed with "mental issues" for years ---- given psychotropic meds that wrecked his physical and mental health ---- finally received the correct treatment and may require treatment for life ---- many of his videos include Ren's understandably bitter opinion toward the mental health profession (the Pig/Butcher is probably a symbol for those who treated him incorrectly)..........

Loved you guys seeing the lights set up so early. Throughout the video the lights are still when his more vulnerable side tries to be positive and the lights flicker when the devil on his shoulder is speaking, at the end though he is up and dancing with the lights, in an acceptance that the dark side will always be there and yet he can be still standing and dancing, his final ooos are cathartic and also triumphant. In closer detail on his "good side" the light/lamp is brighter but the shadow on the floor is darker and his "dark side" the light/lamp is smaller but the shadow on the floor isnt so strong - its a physical representation of the pendulum he talks about at the end "the more intensely the light shone the darker the shadow it cast"

Pretty much all I watch are reactors and so I've seen them all. It's so refreshing to have someone down to earth who don't appear to be faking their reactions for views so I would predict your channel doing very well if you keep that in check. As you seem like nice people, I'm going to give you a few very specific tracks/singles on KZbin that are well known to blow your channel up and make you a lot of money. I've not yet worked my way through all your videos yet (which I'm just about to do) so apologies if you have already done some of them. So, from a high artistic value perspective, anything else from Ren but definitely glad you almost started with the best, 'Hi Ren.' Now going up level but this time, from a high music & video production value, anything from Falling In Reverse from 'Drugs' onwards is in a brand new incomparable tier of its own and in particular, the best ones from a video production prospective are 'Ronald' and 'Watch The World Burn' as those video alone tipped them over into greatness. Also, from an arrangement perspective, be sure to then do their beautiful 'The Drug In Me Is You Reimagined,' then 'I'm Not a Vampire Revamped' and then 'Last Resort Reimagined,' then any/all the other few from 'Drugs' onwards. (Like Ren, the frontman Ronnie even loves reactors and so also reacts to them reacting to him, which can be fun from that inception angle. I think he'd really like you guys so maybe someone will suggest you to him at some point.) Now up a level again but this time from a high singing skills value, a super special one would be 'Creep - Vintage Postmodern Jukebox Radiohead Cover ft. Haley Reinhart.' This is my most watched video/listened to single of all time and I have therefore seen it many many many hundreds of times over the nearly decade since it was released. Finally to the pinnacle and from a highly evolved human perspective, a true one off for likely many hundreds of years, Harry Mack. This might not suit your channel but if you compare the two best people in the world at any other discipline, whether that's tennis or car racing or cooking and everything in between, the two best people are always very close in abilities. This is not true in freestyle rap. The greatest freestyle rapper to ever live, Harry Mack, is many many many magnitudes greater than anyone that has done it before or who is likely to do it again in the next century or few. It is a truly remarkable feat of human evolution and so linguistically advanced, it sends tingles down one's spine. I have run an in depth scoring algorithm since he exploded back on the scene following my discovery of him back from his Venice Beach fame, this time with series called Guerrilla Bars, which I luckily picked up on the first one with before he introduced Omegle Bars too. There are typically 3 or 4 different freestyles per video. You'd be best starting with Omegle Bars 52(first two,) 45(first two,) 42(first one,) 18(last one,) 76(first one,) 86(second one,) 96(second one,) 50(second one,) 93(second one,) ... and then any of the others, especially the more recent ones, and don't forget Guerrilla Bars 25(first & last one.) Finally, just some general tips for reactors that were the result of a poll amongst several sizable communities, hence, some may not apply to you: - Remember to not even have a tiny peak at any videos first before recording the reaction as it is impossible to hide that fact no matter how good a reactor thinks they are. - Ensure the video being reacted to occupies at least two thirds of the screen at all times. - Push the mouse cursor to the far right of the screen in the middle (or left depending on if your output is mirrored) and permantly leave it there off-screen so the seek bar is never showing. - Use the 'K' key on the keyboard to pause/play and the 'J' key to skip back 10 seconds. - Before the video begins, press the 'C' key on the keyboard to deactivate the closed captions as no one wants to see words if it's already in their native language. - Even if a reactor believes they're good at acting, viewers can always tell when a fake reaction face is pulled so it's better just to pretend you are not making a video. - Unless a reactor happens to be an expert in a particular related field such as being an esteemed vocal coach, viewers generally are not interested in much commentary at all as are primarily viewing just to witness if any natural facial expressions, etc. occur. Uncontrollable verbal outbursts of admiration are also accepted. (Never forget, many will unsubscribe if the reactions are ever fake.) - Remember, some or all of those suggestions above may not directly apply to you but might be helpful to keep in the back of the mind. Enjoy the channel blowing up (assuming you don't have a peek at any of the above first.) All the best and greetings from England.

I look forward to your reactions to some of his rap heavy videos. Honestly I've loved everything Ren had put out. For a full on Flex of different rap cadences, look at Hunger. And i fully agree with another comment of all the video's you must try. If you could react to the whole catalog, that would be superb. Lol. Thank you for your time

Been following Ren for just over a year and still finding new tunes, his work ethic is off the charts all while being unwell .

'Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' is a 3 part (in one video) story. Watch that and get freaked out as much as Money Game 3.

The crazy thing is there are 30-40 tracks from him where each one leaves you questioning what you thought was an "artist".

Money Game 3 was Ren's first video with a budget over £1,000. He's completely independent and doesn't have a record label budget. They only had 4 attempts at this because they didn't have permission to be at this location and got kicked out.

Ren was misdiagnosed for years as he was literally wilting away. Bed ridden for nearly a year, he felt his body just dying and they had him try this med, and that med. Finally someone tested him and found out he had Lyme disease. He was bitten by a tic. It had ravaged his body because he was left misdiagnosed which ultimately left him with bouts of psychosis as he mentioned here. He went to Canada (he is now heading back to the UK) to receive stem sell treatments. His health is so much better and he is finally feeling somewhat normal again!

Wow y’all appreciated the hell out of that all the way through! Love it! The man really speaks to so many of us dancing in the dark for so many reasons, just trying to stay on the planet and be who we are in happy healthy ways. He’s not afraid to look at the raw experiences so many of us have even when some of us can perform each day as if we don’t. On top of everything else he’s doing, he’s an incredible source of cultural commentary and points our choices out clearly again and again. Good Stuff. High Integrity. Big Heart. Responsibly Intelligent. Hilarious and ADHD af :D Humble and Loud at the same time. We need Ren in the world. Thanks for the time and appreciation for him and his messages!! (The rabbit hole is full of intertextuality and you’ll see patterns and threads of his philosophies and thoughts throughout, along with a lot of writerly playfulness.)❤

Another fantastic reaction! I'll spare you Ren's story because I see below that others have told it. Just a few days ago he had his final in a year and a half long series of experimental treatments for his extraordinary host of conditions, and he reported that he's doing much better and ready to finally leave Canada and move home to Great Britain, to stop those regular treatments (with boosters now and then), but that he's far from "cured" and still has big health struggles. The thing with Ren is, he is fucking strong. And he makes us Renegades stronger every day. Oh, and by the way -- all the latest songs and videos you'll find from Hi Ren to Money Game 3 and dozens in between, and his album, Sick Boi, which debuted at No. 1 on the UK charts and is winning all kinds of film festival awards -- were written or recorded in that year and a half of extraordinary pain, illness, and several times a week IV treatments. I mean, seriously? The term once-in-a-lifetime artist gets thrown around too much, but in this case it fits. I can't wait to see your future reactions to Ren (and the rest of your stuff, of course). I only wish I could afford to make it to England next month and The Secret Garden Party concerts, where Ren is headlining (and meeting up with a few close personal friends like Chinchilla, Romain Axisa, and Scarlett Fae).

I will say both original AND authentic; yet, I am not a musician. I am just in the rabbit hole of Ren and watching any reaction I can find to learn more of his layered talents.

I just found your channel and I'm digging the positive vibes and breakdowns. You noticed the shadows, they were indeed a cinematic choice, but there is a subtlety to them. The shadow on the right is much lighter than the shadow on the left. When he is "dark Ren" he looks to the right as if he's talking to the lighter shadow. When he is himself he is looking to the left towards the darker shadow. This is also alludes to the pendulum in his monologue at the end, eternally swaying from the dark to the light.

What deserves to be mentioned that this was a performance filmed in one shot. The wheelchair was no coincidence as it represented his life long physical health battle that often left him weak. Ren was misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and bipolar disorder before finally receiving a diagnosis of Lyme disease. He had spent years bouncing back and forth between therapists and trialling different antidepressants all the while getting worse and worse until they finally diagnosed him correctly.

If you want a fairly concise summary of his medical journey, check out Troubles (better still check out his Chapters 1 - 8 - these are spoken word and lengthy)
@francesdoll40395 ай бұрын
The Chapters on his channel renmakesstuff will give yoy the complete detailed truth from his own mouth rather than sonetimes inaccurate comments. He did indeed suffer extreme pain and fatigue and brain damage and dtll suffers from MCAS which explains his allergies to food. I think you would love the Tales, then go ahead and do some rap. Hunger, Genesis, Murderer. Hold On. Seven Sins.

Rens last single Troubles, goes into the yrs of 19-26 and has🔥production. I would stick to reactions from his Sick Boi hip hop album that went #1 in the UK and the last 5 or so drops since then for now. They're all different.

I read and heard in many videos that he’s actually self taught and learnt to play via watching a lot of KZbin videos ~ I agree wholeheartedly either way, he is an absolute genius and one of a kind

Also- just saw you reacted to Sam Tompkins. Ren and Sam have some incredible busking videos on Ren's channel. I would recommend their busking Blind Eye, Improvising around Stevie Wonder, but to me, the best, is the mash up of Earned it/Man's World/Falling. You're right- Sam is incredible. Amazing voice. Anywho- basically...Ren can't be boxed in a genre. He's just an artist who loves what he does and does what he wants. Music and creating is his therapy.
