Thanks for a great reaction 👍❤ The video was shot in the Bar Valentino in Brighton. I can't imagine Ren ever making a video in a green room. It's another great video filmed by Samuel Perry-Falvey. The background singers are Sylvia Mwenze and Scarlett Fae. Scarlett has some own songs on her channel as well. The bass player is his friend Kai Lacey (who played Kujo in the Beat Down video). Furthermore you can find some BTS videos on his RenMakesStuff channel. Two recommendations: 'English Man In New York' and 'Swan song' by Ren's former band The Big Push.

Please do The Big Push - I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop next. You will obv. hear much more of the reggae influence, but what intrigues me is his ability to mimic these artists. That initial surprise turning into a huge smile 😊 Also made me very hyped for your reaction when reaching the last part 😂 This was another brilliant ReNtake. Just Ren doing Ren things. Crazy runs and harmonies, filthy bars to remind us that he is also still a cheeky boi, and that voice that’s perfect for Sting/The Police songs. And yes, despite all that talent he is so humble. What matters to him is the music, not ego. Ren has music in his soul and pours so much soul into everything he does. We’re just lucky to witness it. And you’re still at the top of the rabbit hole so most of this wonderful journey is ahead of you 🐰🕳️

I think you nailed it, talking about Ren’s humility and commitment to the piece. I think it’s what makes his collabs and work with his band, The Big Push, so successful. He’s done a lot of busking with friends and his band where they improvised. To do that well, you have to listen to others, respect their artistry, know when to take a step back, etc. He’s so darn talented and charismatic that he often draws attention, but he has no issue what so ever making space for others to shine. He WANTS other to people around him to be successful. He WANTS them to be the best version of themselves. He said it often enough, a rising tide lifts all ships ❤

15:29 Ren writes and composes everything himself. Unless he features someone, he gives them freedom, but on his songs, every element is his own little brain child he nurtures. Ren learned every instrument by ear, learned to sing out of necessity, he had no one to sing for him, so he started singing and worked hard at it. What's really funny is just a few years ago he would listen to Chris Leipe (spelling?) and his singing strategies to practice (Chris didn't know at the time), and now Chris does reactions and reacts to Ren. But he has no formal training.
@KittyInTheGarden2 ай бұрын
There's a behind the scenes video on Ren's second channel, RenMakesStuff. The female singers are Sylvia Mwenze and Scarlett Fae. Their channels are linked in the description. Kai Lacey played bass. The 'retake' part refers to a cover of a song but often with lyrics changed or added or various songs mashed up together. There are several retakes available on KZbin because of the cover license but not on other platforms. Ren has said that Sting's songs are quite a natural fit for his voice range. Apparently Ren lost his voice for a while in 2020 and took some voice lessons to learn how to use his voice and not abuse it. He also said that he learned a lot from Chris Liepe, a voice teacher on KZbin, who talks a lot about how to express emotion through voice, over technically perfect but emotionless singing.

I have been 99% bedbound since my early 40s from a degenerative disease, can’t even go out in a wheelchair, I need to be horizontal. For an hour I haven’t been conscious of the continual pain I’m in, how it peaks and ebbs and twists viciously in various areas of my body. For an hour I’ve enjoyed life like I did when I could swim and bob and body surf in a surf beach. Like I did in the freshest air and clearest omnidirectional light on the top of a mountain skiing, like I did sweating and high on my own endorphins night club dancing. Like I did reading Coleridge and Dostoyevsky and Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue. Like I did making love and riding my bicycle and knitting diaphanous patterns in gradually ombré hues of prismatic colour. Like hiking Lake Mountain, the Bogongs, The Erinundra plateau that is the most beautiful smelling place on Earth. Like being guided down Limestone caverns where the backlit translucent flowstones glow like coral reefs made of calcium carbonate fairy citadels. For an hour I have been happy beyond the ability to feel pain, because you both gave me a feast of intellectual analysis and life philosophy mixed with pure emotional joy and creative exhilaration. The way I describe Ren to others is if you take the DNA of Sting, John Frusciante, Jeff Buckley, Dr Dre, Eminem, wrapped in the Candy Shell of Cillian Murphy, with a pinch of Shakespeare. Great reaction, as soon as I click on your collaboration reactions I hit like because I know it's going to be great. Can't wait until you tap some more veins of the rabbit hole. So much more fun Ren and surprises yet to come...

What I love about YT reactions. Stumbled over this. Then was blown away by the revelation of the Sting album and its obvious influence on Ren. You need to do his back catalogue - before Sick Boi. Freckled Angels and Big Push.

What I love about comments. This. Will check them out. Thank you for being here.

@ the Big Push cover versions get a lot of love (rightly) but their original compositions I find are better. And no one reacts to their final concert together in 2022. Freckled Angels plus the EPs are a trip. Patience is a beautiful track.

Rens biggest inspiration is sting he owns everything sting has ever done on vinyl, the albums sting didn't release on vinyl Ren had them put on vinyl for his collection

Loved this guys - Ren does some great harmonies in "The Big Push - Englishman in New York" - A Sting song

I absolutely LOVE this song, it is so classy and smooth, like sonic velvet for the ears. The arrangement and backing vocals are off the charts, I've never heard three voices meld together so perfectly and completely. Ren never misses, so varied and ingenious.
