The thing is, Ren himself is not likely to be found liable for anything & if Kujo takes anyone to court, the only people who made any mistakes were the publishing company. They don’t own part of the master, so there’s no way that could be successfully litigated at all. You can sue anyone for anything, but it doesn’t mean that it will get heard by the court, or that you’ll win if the suit goes forward on some technicality. At that point, if it’s shown that the person brought the suit with “unclean hands” (meaning they are suing without any legal grounds or in bad faith), the person bringing the suit can be liable for the other person’s legal fees. There’s also the separate issue of the copyright strike itself, which wasn’t brought in good faith. On the other hand, Ren could easily take Kujo to court for selling him an unlimited license on a beat with an uncleared sample. He also could win against the girlfriend for defamation since she has lied about the contract, which was extremely stupid. If the people who own the Bulgarian sample sue, they could also easily win against Kujo, since he used their work without clearing it.

Kujo is literally one of those who cut the throat of the industry and he tried to bleed the art for wealth, which is truly ironic, but he underestimated the genius and true artistry of Ren who beat the greed with pure talent. On Kujo's money - The publisher might have grounds to withhold this money now. Ren and/or Kujo owes 50% of everything to the choir. It's a completely different industry, but at my job we move around money so it may be applicable. We wouldn't release funds to another party if there is an ongoing dispute over something significant. A copyright claim where Kujo might owe us more money than we are due him sounds very serious. You can kick and scream and go to lawyers all you want. We will be trying to resolve the actual dispute while you do this process. It's likely going to be resolved before you get anywhere with the courts. The outcome on who owes who doesn't matter. We would much rather pay interest on top of the money we owe you. Than give you this money, only to ask for it all back, and never see it again.
@timmokoo56794 ай бұрын
I think that is probably the reason the publisher has not been in hurry to solve this. And of course now the is also a dispute of what portion should be paid too, he will probably get not money until that is agreed.
@AayJayEmm4 ай бұрын
@@timmokoo5679 The copyright infringement, in my basic view, lies solely with Kujo. The money that the copyright holder is going to need to be paid from somewhere will be astronomical compared to Kujos earning. What I would guess ends up happening; Kujo gets no money at all. All of his money goes to the rights holder. Ren will have to cover whatever is missing. The holder doesn’t care where the money comes from, someone will have to pay it. Then Ren will have to sue Kujo, since was he was at fault. And he could probably claim way more than what he had to cover off. Kujo cost him not only this, all future earnings, public image etc. I don’t know who’s advising him to do any of this, but every single thing he has done has made it worse. I’m guessing he lives somewhere he thinks he can get away with it?
@timmokoo56794 ай бұрын
@@AayJayEmm Yea, the copyright infringement is on Kujo, I think everyone (except Kujo and his lawyer of course) agrees on that. It was a clear violation of the contract and nobody is denying it happened. I agree with your prediction but I think what might explain Kujo´s actions a bit is the fact that his lawyer works for beatstars and beatstars is not gonna suffer at all if Kujo takes a huge financial hit (and he is not gonna have money to pay for it). For beatstars the main thing is that a sale on their website follows their contract. Kujo getting destroyed over a stolen sample is not their problem (in fact, it might even benefit them). I think their main motivation is to ensure Kujo gets all the money that that their contract says he is owed.
@AayJayEmm4 ай бұрын
@@timmokoo5679 Him having the same lawyer as Beatstars sounds like a massive conflict of interest, so not sure if that is true. I mean, If I was his lawyer he is getting thrown under the bus to protect them... that might be what's happening now I think of it. If I was representing Beatstars, I would say "The contract stated there was to be no unlicensed material sold. You breached this. Goodbye." They look good from that.

Kujo beatdown kind of reminds me when I was a teenager in college, young for my class and because I was a bit smaller, one of the taller guys used to push in front of me in queues(USA=lines) and be a general ar$e. I did get back at him though. Started with art class and I did a "The Trouble With Lichen" style picture featuring a drawing of his head in a plate with blood pooling around his neck. He didn't quite get the idea and one day when he pushed in front of me I kicked his leg in the kneecap and he writhed around on the ground with everyone in my class giving him the "you idiot" look. I'm more balanced these days but then my life is happy. Ren obviously has to get something out of his system and personally I find it a bit distasteful which is probably because I've matured, I'm 58 now. Ren is highly talented, he skillfully paints us highly emotive stories in a way that we generally empathise with and with a degree of rare musical perfection. I would expect Ren will look back on this in 5, 10 years with a different life perspective. He will still feel it was a valid part of his past but he will have that many years of objectivity to push the subtlety slider higher and the revenge slider a bit lower. I've certainly looked back at moments in my past thinking WTF was I thinking then! The difference now, is I'm not getting any smarter, so I'm no longer smart enough to realise as easily when I've been an idiot as much 😂 The above said, from Ren's comments on Kujo, Kujo and his girlfriend deliberately targeted Ren's vulnerabilities and for that I have total scorn. Our trials in life are what make us who we are and Ren understands that very well. For creatives like Ren, like myself, many of you out there, change is what feeds out creativity. Ren has turned Kujo's nastiness into his personal growth, though it's not matured yet, this is the hallmark of those who rise to challenges and win them.

on point! This has been exactly my take on the situation. The irony of it!! Taking the original Sick Boi down was a slick move even if a painful one. But by doing so Ren took control of the situation and as you have said, whatever happens with the legal stuff Kujo won't benefit form Sick Boi beyond that point and in fact Ren and his team will benefit greatly from the new Sick Boi, the re-relased and updated album, and the diss track, which ironically Kujo provided the subject matter for despite only being 'part of the scenery'. It's genius and yeah a massively positive way to deal with negative situation.

Whatever Kujo is owed he is owed from the publishers not Ren.
