I'm going to be really interested in the lyrics/subject matter on his next album, which he said is guitar based, because it seems that this album has been a real therapeutic process of getting out all his frustrations from his years of illness, from being misdiagnosed for years by doctores, being fed full of pills he didn't need to the years of pain and suffering. The other thing that I find so ironic is the line in Hi Ren when he says I never write hooks for the radio. Then proceeds to have a bucket load of catchy hooks on this album!

That part immediately after the 2nd chorus is the sound you hear in the 1st Matrix when Neo is being pulled out of the Matrix for the first time. It sounds like Ren is trapped between the Matrix and what is actually real. His mind can't decide which way it's supposed to go.

Great reaction. Yes I think the cracks in the mirror is the ultra critical nature of how we judge ourselves too harshly. Excellent, thoughtful reaction, with great words at the end about supporting each other as we work through pain and depression. That, I think, is the main point of what Ren does as an artist. Because he's so raw, honest, vulnerable, it's like his music gives us "permission" to be the same way. Much healthier than holding it all in. Already I've listened to the song three times today, and it was the third listen--during your reaction--that brought tears to my eyes. As if the feeling or message of the song finally sunk in. 😢

I'm catching up with peoples reactions (flitting in and out of France watching World Cup rugby matches), loved your reaction to this. The person doing his lyric videos is properly talented with words and visuals. Ren name checked him recently, rightly so. This is a deep and exceptional song. I almost get the impression that using these songs as vehicles to tell his current and past life stories/struggles is very cathartic for him. Sumptuous hook in the singing parts.

To me, it sounds like a song within a dark moment. It’s very hard to hear people talk about these things. But it is something people feel every day. And don’t talk about. I don’t see it as a call for mass suicide. I see it as a frustration, a capture of a bad day, or week or season of life. Yes, please pray for this man.
