Exactly what I came to say! In Hi Ren 'Bad' Ren says 'Ren, mate, we've heard it all before, uh, 'she sells seashells on the sea shore''. This is in reference to the fact that this verse went viral with a meme a couple of years before Hi Ren, with the verse played over a Super Mario scene, and then an Eminem scene (and many people to this day think that the rhyme is an Eminem rhyme!). The line in Hi Ren refers to the fact that 'she sells seashells' was a 'stolen' verse from an old folk song (the line in Hi Ren immediately preceding says 'the pinnacle of your success is stealing other peoples material'), and also refers to the last time Ren had some success with an altruistic song. The genius of Ren's writing comes to the fore in the next verse when he says 'I will make waves and shake up the whole world beneath us'

It’s always made me sad when I finish a great book or great film. That feeling that you can never experience it for the first time again. So it is with a Ren track and particularly his videos. Reactions like yours give us a chance to watch and experience vicariously, just a little taste of what it was like our first time, sitting there thinking WOW every new song is my new favourite. I also love the fact that seeing all the reactors and marvels at the same music and story telling being admired by hard assed American rappers, middle class opera singers, All American Moms and even 67 year old white retired firefighters like me.

Shell Oil started in the mid 1800's selling shells and other miscellaneous items... :) He did his research well. He also performed this live for his first television appearance a few weeks ago in front of a hall filled with nobles, rich people and celebrities ;)

Shell the oil company originally started out selling shells and evolved into oil, a lot of RENs music has so many backstories and actual fact about them as well as just being a good song.

The founder of the business which became Shell used to sell sea shell decorated nic nac boxes on the sea shore, Brighton beach to be exact, which is also where Ren recorded a live version of the second verse of Money Game 2.

Loving your Ren reactions! Hey, your comments after this make me think maybe you weren't aware that MG1 was a one-take LIVE performance? MG3 has one cut (panning behind the chair shortly before the water comes down, after which there was a near-zero chance of a retake, 'cos he only had one suit, and everything got wet including the bow of the lady on our left- as a violin player, seeing her grit -not moving, let alone getting up and running around screaming, was amazing!!)

A lot of hip hop and pop artist glorify greed and consumption in their music which may affect the mindsets of some listeners. Ren seems to want to shine a light on how much is to much and is the value we place on money and objects more important than our relationship to each other. Great reaction! Can’t wait for part 3!
