Ren dedicated this song to his friend Joe, who committed suicide, if I'm not mistaken, 11 years ago. Ren has several songs about him, such as the Freckled Angels song. If you want to know more about this, check out a recent interview with Ren on Knox Hill that just aired.

In his interview with Knox Hill, REN said that he got a call from his friends Mom at 3am saying that his friend had called and was saying his goodbyes to everyone. REN got dressed and ran out to go look for him. He said he got to the bridge a couple of minutes after his friend's phone went to "no service." I can't imagine.

Chinchilla is amazing! She is a true artist in her own right, and her and Ren's chemistry is off the charts. They refer to each other as musical siblings. Like Ren she also bends genres and is very experimental in her solo work. Chalk Outlines Live is definitely one to check out featuring them both.

Ren's friend committed suicide Joe Hughes, he jumped off a bridge and they never found his body. To me that is almost no closure and with suicide people always question whether they could have stopped it from happening. In an interview Ren said he has felt suicidal but he never wanted to put his friends and family though the pain that he felt with Joe. Chinchilla has been a special guest of Sting's tour in 2019. Also she has a new video "Little Girl Gone", it is fire.🔥🔥🔥

Im obsessed with Ren reactions, and you're my favorite. I've watched countless videos, and I appreciate yours the most. I love the minimal pausing. When reactors pause to talk every 5 seconds, they miss things, and lose the meaning and flow of his music. I understand there are copyright issues, but most go overboard. You just let it soak in, and add thoughts mostly at the end. I also cackled at the response to chat in the Jenny and Screech video, where you said something like "We're watching a beautiful art piece, and y'all mfers are talking about Teen Wolf in chat". It drove me nuts too. Keep your vibe. It's awesome.

The second "Oh I can't breathe" harmony they're both letting so much pain out that doesn't really come across on the recorded (not live) version.. and at the end if you look close Ren has tears running down his face. Anyone that's been through this particular type of loss knows.

This is mesmerizing - thank you for the reaction! In this performance, as in Chalk Outlines live, Ren seems at his most vulnerable when singing with Chinchilla. He seems next to tears in both. Dude...the look on your face by the end of this video completely sums up how I feel about this song. They sing the strings in the beginning...I had no idea. I came to this song the other way around and only recently heard the studio version. While I like the live better, hearing the studio version made me appreciate it so much more. This was recorded on the same bridge where his friend Joe ended his life. There is a LIVE version of the song Freckled Angels (about Joe) that Ren wrote after he passed. It's the oldest song on his page, and is from 11 years ago. It's amazing. But even harder to watch than this. He could barely get through the introduction. Ren is so amazing.

As for "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide; Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs, "Freckled Angels" being one example. It is dedicated to Joe Hughes, who committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010. Someone else commented that the video was shot at the bridge that Ren's friend jumped from. His body was never recovered. Their live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it due to my own daily struggles. Although, losing your best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How To Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would recommend you check out their live performance of "Chalk Outlines." Also their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk In Love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable. I hope you will continue to dive into Ren's and Chinchilla's catalogs. Chinchilla (Daisy Bertenshaw) is 26 years old, from London, UK, and a rising star on the British music scene. She was a supporting act on Sting's 2019 European Arena tour and the opening act for the 2021 McFly tour. Chinchilla has also played some big European music festivals. If you haven't seen it yet check out the Knox Hill Interview. That's the 1 and only time I've ever seen him go into the full story. My heart broke for him, and the very young Ren who was in so much pain. I will say that (diring my borderline ugly cry) seeing him in a place physically and mentally able to share that part of him was incredible and Ill never forget that story. I have no doubt he will carry that hurt always, but the healing he's doing in Canada seems to be helping his heart along with the rest and that is the best we can all pray or hope or manifest for him. ❤❤❤

Ren was on the phone trying to reach his friend as the friend was calling and saying his last goodbyes to their other friends why he was standing on the bridge ready to jump. Ren ran as fast as he could to the bridge, but he wasn't there when he got there. They searched for awhile and didn't see him, so they thought maybe he changed his mind and walked off. Sadly, he didn't...
