I've just realised that many years ago I had the original patrol pack, it arrived nearly new, I sold it on in pretty much the same condition for pennies, I'm devastated.

Thank you! I've been looking for one of these and I kept searching ebay for assault packs and could tell that those were not the same. Did a search for patrol pack and found one in good enough condition. I disagree about duration; I have done several multiple day field ops living out of the patrol pack.

1st I wanna thank you for taking the time to explain each of these. I also have the smaller of the two with a few things different one being the tag is calling it Molle Pack Assault F206128 and the 2nd is the front pouch or claymore pouch like yours there is no outer pocket, just the small inner pocket except along with the draw string with barrel lock it also has YKK zipper which kinda makes the draw string pointless. I am very excited to have this pack. Believe it or not I happened to be fishing at Pennypack which is 1 of 2 creeks within Philadelphia that the state stocks for trout. I was parked in the lot for the parks environmental center and when I was done fishing I walked over to the dumpster to dispose of a few cans and snack wrappers I had in the backpack I use for fishing that happens to be falling apart. I did a double take cause I noticed the woodland camo, so I reached in and pulled this pack out with the waist pack, two larger side packs a grenade pack and a utility pouch.. Then pulled out the Large Molle pack with plastic frame and sleep system pack attached and then a medium Allison pack minus the aluminum frame! I knew they were really good packs and was eager to learn more about them. I had no idea until I did some research how lucky a find I had made. I regret not reaching further into the dumpster because I know I saw some more woodland camo but I had quite the arm full with what I already had and didn't want anyone to see me hanging upside down over the side of this dumpster pulling stuff out and hustled back to my truck tossed them in the back and didn't check them out till later on... No idea why someone would just toss these out but I am extremely grateful I found and saved them them!

@@renaissancemarinetv3536 There wasn't much in regards to Army stuff there was a few off brand kids school bags, a red fabric cooler bag about the size that would fit 30 12oz cans, and what I'm thinking may have been the frame for the Allison pack. The other camo I had mentioned seeing wasn't that big it may have been the sleep system bag that went with the Allison pack.. Other then that just a few broken tree branches and regular trash bags. I did check it out again a week or two later and there was some random binders with old water shed test studys and old forestry info along with some old chemical tablets for testing water samples and a random late 1990s Casio keyboard the kind for kids that had different effects and a hand full of instrumental songs to play along to lol I'm thinking they may have been cleaning out some closets in one of the old houses that sit on the park property the park commission owns and utilizes for some offices, meeting/classrooms, and workspace for some of the volunteer groups that help take care of the park...

It wasn’t really clear in the video, but I got the impression that you liked the size of the patrol pack. 😀 These days any time you can get a nice pack in woodland camo for under $30 it’s a good deal. Anything in woodland seems to be getting pretty rare in the surplus market.

I agree with the 3 day or assualt/patrol pack diatribe. First thing to keep in mind with this gear is its surplus so it was designed for military operations. In the military operations realm and the fighting load/existence load concept, there is a unspoken and often forgotten about rule that sustainment is different from existence; that is your fighting load carries the gear you need for the immediate fight while the existence load carries your extra clothing, ppe, hygeine items, sleep gear, ect. Sustainment supplies (beans, bullets, bandages, batteries, ect [consumables]) however, are meant to be resupplied daily on average or to a max of 3 days. And in the military when resupplys happen at longer intervals, the extras consumables are carried spreadload between rucks, assualt packs, vehicles, and hand carried. So in the case of the assualt/patrol pack, it never was ment to be a 3 day survival pack but to be a pack for extra assualt/patrol gear aka extra ammo, explosives, grenades, MG and mortar rounds, ect. And if you are in a survival situation, your only food and water shouldn't be limited to whats in your pack due to a lack skill in the realm of foraging.

That's a great find for the price, most that I can findnow are moderate condition at best for around $80 (unless you get a beat up ACU) and good condition are in the $120+range. If you swap shoulder straps id hang onto the originals if you javemt already thrown them out just for collection value sake. I've been looking for either the patrol or assault because I like the sizes. I do agree the names should be swapped though from "patrol" to "1-day assault" and from "3-day assault" to "2/3 day patrol."

In mechanized infantry, this assault pack is just what you need for dismounted operation lasting less than 24 hours. Your large ruck or duffle bag, holding sleeping bag, bivvy bag, extra clothing, etc. can stay with your vehicle. Long multiday, foot marches are the exception rather than the rule. Everything we see in Ukraine reinforces this mode of ops.

+Renaissance MarineTV Okay, nobody has answered this question for me, so I hope you can ( or at least your best guess, if you would be so kind ) : What in the hell is that little row of 4 MOLLE loops ( on both rucks ) above the front pocket for? I can't imagine weaving a pouch or something to it, as it would flop around. I had thought "well, maybe they would carabiner something onto it", and then I thought "you don't want things dangling on your ruck because if it can snag it will". So do you have any idea what the purpose of those loops is? I think that little Velcro pocket on the front of the Claymore pocket is to carry a 6 mag bandoleer of rifle ammo ( I think ). As far as the assault pack thing, I also consider the assault pack to be what the name says, stuff to kill the enemy ( extra mags, extra grenades ), probably some extra water, and to patch you up and kill the pain and stop the bleeding ( Quick Clot, tourniquet(s), chest seals, bandages, tape, sulfa powder, morphine [I'm aware the medic carries the morphine, but I would find some way to get me some extra] in case you catch a round, because you're wearing it during an assault, with your main ruck brought up to you after you've taken the objective. As far as them calling the assault pack a "3 day assault pack", I don't think it will carry anything near 3 days worth of stuff. I have yet to see a so-called 3 day/72 hour bag ( even peoples' "bug out bags" ) carry what I'd want to carry for 72 hours. When it comes to a 72 hour ruck, I'm thinking "plan on 3 days, prepare for 6 ". Anyway, if you have any idea as to what those MOLLE loops on the front are, tell me, because it's always driven me crazy. They have to be for something

There seems to be a rule that if you have a large pack, you MUST fill it up. Well, sorry but it is not true. The difficulty we run into is in the midst of an operation, we need to carry something else and try to carry 10 lbs of stuff in that 5 lbs pack. The same rules apply to suitcases, just ask any married man. I like to wear a comfortable pack and don't worry about filling it up. Just follow your plan and the equipment necessary will follow. A 3-day pack does not mean it needs to be full. By stripping down MREs, you save space so you might utilize less space. I appreciate your thoughts on a smaller pack to accomplish the mission. You are lucky, I don't have space to store multiple different pieces of gear; I just use what I have and remember the ounces equal pounds and pain rule. Thanks for the video. S/Fi

its crazy to see how much war has changed in the last 2-3 years in ukraine. at the beginning, assaulting meant gorilla warefare, improvised weapons, insurgency type tactics like the cubano's fighting batista. soon after aid arrived, since most of their mlrs and long range ammo was knocked out in the first days, mechanized assaults were possible in short skirmishes. then russia decided to go all in and start emptying out their cold war ware houses, and was firing 3 years worth of artillery shells every day, making very little offense possible. after long range himars showed up and disrupted the staging of artillery, fast moving/technical isis style hit and run tactics prevailed, and were responsible for most of UAF's gains without the fear rapid response from artillery. soon russia countered with long range glide bombs and more aviation/rotary wing, and that type of offense was impossible. then proper heavy mechanized assets showed up, and promptly ran into the largest mine fields ever deployed, and beyond line of sight anti tank missiles from attack helicopters. after ukraine improvised and moved up anti aircraft missiles that were strictly prescribed for air defense of large cities, and got some really lucky hits on russian AWACs and large transport aircraft, biden turned his back on UAF and froze most of the arms needed to hold the line such as manpads, artillery shells, long range missiles, and armor. what happened after that was a rapid and permanent evolution of the "front line" as a concept. UAF and the ruskies mass produced millions of disposable one way drones, and before electronic counter measures showed up, offense more than defense became terrifying. just as german uboats redefined the naval landscape in ww2, the one way drone have reshaped the concept of a front line or zero line in ukraine. everything is way more spread out now, and both sides will go months without ever even seeing the enemy. everyone is hiding in holes during the day, and moving only during darkness or morning fog on the zero line. the "frontline" changed from a one dimensional length measured in meters, and is now a 2 dimensional surface of overlapping probability which extends 10-20km in either direction. anyways, the semantics of an assault pack are as situational as the technological and resource realities of any conflict, which can evolve rapidly in a matter of weeks. as an outside armchair observer, war looks as terrifying now as it did in ww1 due to the brutality of the machine gun. guessing they would call this pack the 3 minute assault packs back then.
