Great idea with the fusing of the cords. Ran into the same issue on another bag. Heaven forbid they ever break. Love your channel

Kind of nice having a channel where I know the content is consistently good enough that I can like it before even watching the video. Appreciate that.

I finally had time to watch this! I really enjoyed your thought processes! There are several things I'd love to actually talk to you about but this comment would be far too long. I wish we were neighbors, I'd just drop by and talk with you. Great ideas Brother!

Hello Renaissance, just wanted to tell you how I removed the waxy shoe lace from the storm collar and put paracord in. Pull the cord out each side as much as possible, cut, then only about an inch is left inside, take 16 gage wire, run it through, it will go, then attach paracord to wire crimp tight and slowly pull through.

Great video! I just bought an unused ILBE with lid for $250 . I was prior service conventional Army Airborne and used a a large ALICE Pack, I humped ALICE, I Jumped ALICE, I Floated ALICE in the jungle streams and rivers , I landed on ALICE, I hated ALICE. No desire to get one ever again . I am disabled Veteran, amputee , so I need a ruck that will fit my gear and a spare leg , so I looked at the MOLLE 1 , MOLLE 2, and the MOLLE 4000. It just didn’t appeal to me just like Alice but an easy to break plastic frame . So I was considering the newest USMC a ruck or a Mystery Ranch , but I can’t afford a Mystery ranch , so in comes the ILBE , and it is amazing! I am getting ready for the Gamut Challenge, 2 days of rucking minimum of 30 pounds and rucks can be checked at any time , shooting rifle and pistols and obstacles in central Florida ranch and reclaimed phosphate land in November 2024. I had a CPF 90 which was comfortable but I broke it after 2 weeks with just 20 pounds of dead weight, very sad , but what I get for going cheap. Questions? Should I put my camel back hydration bladder in the radio pocket or the lid pack? Do you have any videos on how to adjust the ILBE a I am 6’1” ? Thank you I love your content .

i have not cared for the hydration pack in my lid. i really like it in the radio pouch. up against the body is the way to go but to each their own.

Use chapstick on the pull cords for the storm collar just like you would for a stiff zipper. I tried it on mine and they pull real easily now.

I have 2 of these packs . One I cut a ton of stuff off for my son for Boy Scouts use. Mine I cut some stuff off but not as much as my son's. I am now thinking of removing the frame and pad to use the Alice pack frame with Molle 2 kidney pad and straps.

i had to reinforce the stitching at the top sinches for the shoulder straps. that should be imo should be sewn completely through the pack. when there is load on it, its pulling only on the outer nylon sheath for the aluminum braces. becuase i was putting the bag on my back incorrectly i popped a few stiches and decided to reinforce both sides by sewing completly through the back of the pack along the edge (because you cant sew through the aluminum braces) with heavy waxed thread.

Great idea with the bever tail

Those beavertails are HARD to find, at least here in North Fla. Replacing the lid with one looks like a good idea, IF I could fine one for a good price I would try it. Good job!

Faithful #5 checking in. Finally getting caught up on the ILBE series. Great stuff! The ILBE has always interested me, but I prefer front loading packs instead of top loaders. Even though it has the zipper on the side, I still just couldn’t pull the trigger on it. I wish I could find one of those beaver tails though. It would be the perfect addition to my Tactical Tailor Operator pack. Only one one found is on eBay for $90! Keep up the great work Marine!

Will this pack work with 782 gear? So do you prefer this over the woodland MOLLE pack system? If not have you found any beside Alice that will. My MOLLE 2 medium does but looking for more volume. Thanks and love your videos.

The lid has long straps so it can be used as a waist pack.

My mountaineering pack made for places like mount everest or any other place in the world is 17.5 pounds. My pack is made by gregory and it is till in top shape. purchased back in 2003. No matter how much new wonder fabric that comes out in those ultra light pack you simply cant make a heavy duty military/mountaineering backpacks for under 7 and up pounds. There jobs are for carrying 80-100+ pounds comfortably. More importantly they need to do it from swomps deserts frozen 30k mountain tops then add war to those places without breaking.😮

The floating lid is expand capacity but you really are not going to pack that ruck that much. So the lid idea should work with the recon beaver tail. Thanks for the excellent video.
