I am a newbie here, I want to say that this video is actually SO shocking to me. Dr. Mike’s glutes workouts are totally different to the workouts out there which I have learnt the whole time. I love watching IFBB Pros’ videos to get inspired/to learn perfect forms, but I have never watched Pro athletes do glutes/hams with super lower weight like this video. Does’t mean that Ash is weak or something, actually I feel much happier not seeing someone doing squats and lunges with 4-5 plates on a side. Also I can tell these are really brutal and effective. I have tried these workouts for last a few days and I had never ever felt this sore butt pain with an empty bar. You are a game changer Dr. Mike! Thank you

But it's ridiculous to hold the stance against hip thrusts .. all the exercises he shows are great for glutes yes but they'll also build quads just as much. In fact lunges of any sort will have my quads fail before my glutes do. Hip thrusts not only target glutes way more but also you can do them with a lot more volume and weight and also it's safer to go to failure (with your glutes) than something like a stiff leg deadlift or squat. They should be included in any well rounded glute program , period. As well as more isolation exercises like kickbacks, abductions (which will have you crying if you go to failure and also leave your quads alone). Most of the best glutes in the world in bikini and wellness don't just do them for no reason.. just look up Francielle Matteos glute training vids and the results 🤯
@diegoh750611 ай бұрын
@@geminierica4077 to be very fair, you dont see bodybuilders doing 3 different variations of isolation exercises on their triceps for example, unless you only and exclusively want to develop a big butt anyone should try to have a more complete workout of the glutes through compound movements that allow for no body part to lag behind in growth, another comparison is Arnold, he had one of the greatest chests of all time, doesnt mean his training was dialed for 100% muscle growth as we have learned in the present thanks to better research, if you like the hip thrust, do it, as much as you want, a gym journey isnt only about getting the most optimal growth, its also about enjoying it as you do it
@claudiamarianidamato949911 ай бұрын
@@geminierica4077totally agree with you. I hate doing hip thrusts but I do them because they just work. I literally am never excited to do them. Thanks for also mentioning the kickbacks and abductions, those are very much needed. there was a time where I stopped doing them and just focused on the compound movements and saw noticeable decline in results. If you want the glutes to pop compared to the rest of the body you need to isolate. There’s just no other way around it

the smith machine lunge is just a loaded reverse lunge, although the added stability of the smith machine lends itself to being able to rely on the stance leg for the entire concentric, but a loaded reverse lunge will pretty much get you there as well, or even just a bodyweight reverse lunge, if you don't have equipment. It is also important to note that split stance exercises are exceptionally brutal and a huge bottleneck you'll hit is your cardiovascular fatigue, so it's normal for these types of exercises to consume your soul

Something I notice with myself and the girls here while doing FFERLs: a tendency to step back too far on the support leg can lend itself to compensation in later sets due to glute med fatigue, you can see Ashley getting a little bit of lateral spinal flexion/hip deviation on her later reps indicating as much. I find that keeping the supporting leg in neutral extension and aiming my point of contact a little bit further forward lends itself to stabilizing the pelvis and maintaining neutral hips, ie locking them in place and minimizing compensation.
@VeteranVandal11 ай бұрын
Maybe you could also strengthen the glute med on another day too (probably in whatever day you train lower abdomen or core or stability exercises), you don't want to have fatigue make you injured on the back. The back is too important in too many exercises, hurting it is a major... Setback. And it's a problem that could linger and will make not squat or deadlift eventually if you hurt it.

1:12 - We didn't have no communism vs capitalism. In that regard, we've only had State Capitalism (Mao China, USSR, North Korea? though they're also a monarch) vs Capitalism. It's all capitalism. Communism is a stateless, cashless, classless society, and that just hasn't even been close to ever happening, or even having the genuine intent to do so. Which isn't surprising, because that's no simple task, and it would have to be a global effort, otherwise they would just get starved out by the other countries who would no longer want to play ball with them through trade and whatnot. There's smaller steps like Market Socialism with worker co-ops and stuff, but yea. A bit of nitpickin'. A very good use of my time.

I remember at my old gym this guy had a girl do barbell squats with no weights on the bar until she couldn’t do no more (I think she got about 100 reps) and when she racked the weight her legs were wobbly. It looked intense but there was no benefits to it and ANYONE can do that, but to make someone feel wobbly with very few reps is a whole other level. Quality over quantity to me is by far superior and having the ability to tweak someone’s body position and the tempo of the reps is something only a few can do. I used to count my reps and try to get at least 500 reps (did not care how those reps look) and for the past several years I went from doing 7-8 different exercises per muscle in a workout to 3 maybe 4 and cut the amount of reps down SIGNIFICANTLY, slow down the eccentric and I feel more tension during the workout and the soreness post workout in the muscle that I was focusing on then I did with 500 reps.
@Bored072011 ай бұрын
So this is primarily for the glute max which is the middle and lower glute regions right? What about the upper/side glute to build "the shelf" ? That's what the glute Medius makes up right?? Speaking from personal experience with l4l5 and l5s1 herniations, I couldn't hip hinge at all for at least 10 months due to excrutiating sciatic nerve pain. I could do squat pattern movements for legs but I avoided axial loading as much as possible, so everything was single leg (bulgarian, standing leg extension, lying leg curl, etc..) or extremely light on my back (ex. smith squats with elevated heels and knees super-forward) and worked on my core in the remaining time.

For the smith machine lunges would you not be better doing them in the opposite direction so the bar path is angled behind you to bias hip flexion instead angled forward which forces your knee into more flexion
@Chris917011 ай бұрын
I figured the bar more in front would facilitate a more forward trunk angle and deeper glute stretch?
@ericcollins62314 ай бұрын
I just tried this for the first time today, and I set it up, as shown in the video, With the angle moving forward on the descent. I felt crumpled up, awkward, and it required a crazy amount of dorsi flexion, that I just dont have. I got nearly zero extra glute stretch, because the angle prevented me from going all the way down. Going to try it the other way next time, with the bar moving down and back on the descent. This seems like it would follow the path of a natural reverse lunge with free weights. Only video I can really find on it, (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH6xi3SieM5kZ9k) also has it set up the opposite way too, and it looks much smoother and natural compared to what I experienced in mimicking the set up from this video. The only other video from Mike, they use a straight smith machine. So not sure why Mike and Jarod set it up to go down and forward (\ ) instead of down and back (/ ) but their way felt bad for me.
