You probably never heard Tebaldi sing in person. She had that rare gift of being able to connect with her audience and there was a wonderful love relationship between the two especially at the Met Opera House in New York City. She had a God given voice and may she rest in peace singing with the angels in heaven along with Franco Corelli.

as a kid i was blessed to see Tebaldi and Corelli in this great staged work as part of the Met tour of 1968. I was awed by the whole experience, and there could never be another Adriana for me.

Incredibly beautiful rendition of a signature aria. The costume and set is unfortunate, but this is the Bell Telephone Hour, always weirdness when it came to opera. That voice, however, pure gold. I'd have killed to have seen and heard Tebaldi live, just once in any of her signature rols, Desdemona, Forza Leonora, Mimi. Toscanini was right on the money

quando la Tebaldi canta il repertorio a lei più congeniale è la prima in assoluto ! nata per arie e personaggi come questo! ne ha la passionalità ma eseguita con un gusto e sobrietà che prima di lei era pura fantascienza! pochi paragoni si possono fare con una voce come questa! ed è triste vedere come una delle più grandi soprano italiane del 900 venga tuttora ingiustamente e assurdamente trattata. !

Io ho avuto la fortuna di assistere ad alcune delle sue rappresentazioni ed ho avuto anche il privilegio di parlarle. E conservo gelosamente nel mio cuore quei momenti.

@@eugeniogentili1048 Chi si cela sotto lo pseudonimo di MyOperaWorld ha un mondo operistico piuttosto limitato. nell'lenco dei grandi cita numerose volte la Callas, e poi Pavarotti, Di Stefano, Joan Sutherland , Corelli e qualche altro,dimenticando tanti altri (uno per tutti, Del Monaco.) E' chiaro che sono grandi artisti e nessuno contesta il loro valore. Ma come dici tu, si avverte il fanatismo Callassiano e il desiderio di denigrare la Tebaldi. Ho letto la biografia della Callas di Laura Bandiziol che mi è sembrata corretta, essenziale e obiettiva. ti cito solo qualche osservazione di un altro grande che di cantanti si intendeva: "Toscanini, nonostante avesse voluto la Callas alla Scala con lui per interpretare Lady Macbeth, non amava la voce di Maria.(e non se ne fece nulla) Egli considerava Maria un'artista, una donna con un voce possente, importante , ma non bella. Toscanini fu sempre perplesso riguardo al colore e all'asprezza della voce della Callas, preferì sempre la Tebaldi che egli stsso definì 'Voce d'Angelo'" Renata veniva da una vita semplice, fatta di studio e sacrifici, non si appoggiava come Maria a ricchi e influenti mecenati non frequentava i salotti dell'alta società, nè i grandi stilisti della moda. Cantava col cuore, Maria interpretava..La sua carriera fu piena di sucessi e di ammiratori. La sua voce dolce e melodiosa ti accarezza l'anima.

One of the most beautiful aria ever composed for the voice. If only the divine Tebaldi could have held the final note longer, it would have been perfect. I adore her but I long for just a tiny bit more breath control...who am I to judge with not vocal talent though. The music is all that counts!

Music and the text are not commensurate: the text of many operas (especially 19th century dramatic operas) is overwrought and démodé, yet, the music set to it is eloquent. And so, one can phrase the music evocatively despite the text's being less so.

Friends, be sensible. This was for TV. Do you think she brought her own costumes? People who sang opera on TV had to wear whatever the program provided for them, hence some ridiculous Turandot costumes that Nilsson had to wear. I saw Tebaldi as Adriana12 times, and she never wore this costume. But I am sure it wasn't her own choice.

Live singing, on TV, bad costume, no partner, always a challenge, and with small distraction, the momentum is lost. The placement of the voice, drops. Then, you can't get it right away, but your finale it's coming. After un sofio da mio voce, the second one. Ms. Tebaldi over-relaxes, and smiles big. This is an error, because you are not given a break, the big line is coming. Can't relax. So later, at 2:32, she is NOT comfortable, and the air gasp at 2:37, does'nt give her back her usual poise.

I am not even a Zinka fan, and I am offended by these ridiculous stories. I was a child in her last Chenier at the Met--she wore the standard Maddalena dress. She never was cast as Butterfly--she would NEVER have had the sense of humor to call herself "ottanta" (not "ottanti") and where is this fictitious opera house where she was fired from Butterfly? I criticize Zinka a lot, but really!

Who was taking it so hard? But people are FAR more malicious on youtube than they are almost anywhere else. They say crazy things in order to try to discredit people, such as a Tebaldi or a Milanov, even when what they say makes no sense or is a blatant lie. Very easy to do with screennames to hide behind. I completely agree; and at times even her phrasing is obsolete: she does not use the silences expressively, and the phrasing loses expressivity for that, and, for not always being employed in function of the text's rendition.
