Interesting. Thanks for doing an overview of this one. On my radar. Clearly there's a reason these two designers have won so many awards.

That rules explanation reminded me in a not-insubstantial way of Qin by Knizia. With some additional complexity. And with a nearly-exclusive emphasis on the villages (dirt areas in this game), instead of the villages being an important but not necessarily game-determining way of permitting an easier interchange of pagodas and providing conflict flash points spread throughout the board. I wonder what most people would think of that neutral color idea. I know in my family there are three ways dummy players and the like are dealt with, and most do not use neutral/dummy pieces to block opponents nor do they even like the idea of doing so (as I've discovered repeatedly as someone who does treat them that way). This game generally seems more cutthroat than most modern "classics" tend to feel, like Carcassonne, Azul, Ticket to Ride, and Qwirkle. Not that you can't play each of those with some level of cutthroat-ness, but this one seems inherently more so and I think that may hold it back some. It does look like a good game though. I would definitely play it.

I hope they put a specific distinct spot for the piece that could be anywhere in the brown areas. I think visually it being laid on any square makes it harder to parse which are the free squares in the area. Maybe it could be a standee or something.

If you want, you can lay those tiles across the line that separates squares so that you can see free space in each of the dirt areas. You can also lean it against a plant. We didn't find visibility to be an issue. -WEM

I get a strong hint of Mexica from this, but with dominos instead of action points.
@boardgamegeek4 жыл бұрын
I've played Mexica only a few times, so it didn't come to mind - but yes, I can see the comparison, although Mexica is far more involved since you carve up the land yourself over the course of the game and have many more decision points in what you're doing each turn. -WEM

Hi. Nice review. I know this is a bit off topic but I got very curious about that hexagon shaped board game that hangs behind you on the wall. Could you please tell me what its called?

Sounds like a fun game for gamenight at school... if only 2020. I would get a draw bag for it for set up.
@boardgamegeek4 жыл бұрын
My mock-up copy from the publisher included a draw bag, but you're not supposed to know which domino tiles you have, and if you pull them from a bag, you might see them while you stack them. Shuffling them face down seemed easier. -WEM

The gameplay seems interesting, but I am so hoping they change the artworks. It looks straight out of 1970.

Timeless art, I guess, as German releases often have a similar generic look that both looks dated and looks like it could be from any time. -WEM

I worry that there is not enough variability the game :/ especially because of the map
@boardgamegeek4 жыл бұрын
In this style of game, like the games of old (i.e. the early 2000s), the variability comes from you learning how to play better and the different styles of play that people bring to the table. -WEM

I am designing a game that needs custom dominos, like Renature. I've reached out to various domino companies, and they've all refused to create dominos with custom designs, even though I've advised them that I would most like be placing an order for 1,000s of domino pieces. By any chance do you happen to know who made the dominos for Renature? Maybe I will get lucky and strike up a deal with them.

First 3 minutes thought you had a stroke. How many times "every company wants to publish those game but its hard to create" do you have to say)) how dense you think your viewers are?))
