Looks great. I will buy an electric van hopefully in 2025 if I can afford it. Happy New Year.

Don’t! They’re appalling! Great fun for a day or two. The novelty soon wears off. Expensive to run.

I have had mine coming upto 3 years now and have done 20k in it from new. Very agile and maneuverable around town. I have done most of my driving in big cities but do take it on A roads on a daily basis. Mine has roof bars with ladders and pretty much loaded to the brim most of the time, as I am too lazy to clear it out like I used to on a weekly basis. I have never had the range below 100 miles from a full charge and I rarely drive in echo mode as I like the more instant throtle response. At the usual van vs van traffic light grand prix's that we engage in I mostly pull away as any increased power of a van is negated by the very low gearing on the 1st gear of a diesel, by the time they have changed into 2nd I am away and ahead. On one of the sites I was working, massive open storage, there was a flat stretch and I managed to get it upto an indicated 90mph, this is probably 80mph actual speed over ground. Mine is the poverty spec version but still has bluetooth mobile/music streaming which sounds adequate. It is very quiet and relaxing to drive and handles really well around corners etc.. The one thing I do miss is parking sensors and cruise control, which I believe is essencial now due to so many average speed controlled roads. It charges from almost flat in less than 5 hours but I very rarely need to charge that long. Usual charging time is 2-3 hours. I have not noticed the range decreasing after 3 years of use. They are a very compelling used buy for any one looking for one of these.

check what the V5 says I would say. However I would say a car derived van is a car but with metal panels in the rear instead of glass, like an Astra estate van, fiesta van. No simply the chassis drivetrain and cab as a car. From Parker’s website The Department for Transport has a handy checklist for this. Car-derived vans are: > designed to weigh no more than two tonnes when loaded fully > based on car designs or the vehicle is built from a platform which has been designed and developed to be built as a car or a van by the same manufacturer The DfT goes on to say: ‘As a general rule, from the outside, these vehicles will look like the size of a car, but on the inside the vehicle will look like and function as a van.’ This is because: > there will be no rear seats, rear seat belts or mountings > there will be a payload area with floor panel in the rear of the vehicle > there will be no side windows in the rear of the vehicle - or if present, side windows will be opaque and fixed (with no means of opening or closing) These changes have to be made to an extent that they can’t be reversed. This is to stop someone buying a CDV for less than you would pay for a car and then retrofitting a set of seats and belts to get a cheap passenger vehicle. What’s more, a final test is to see what it says under ‘body type’ on the vehicle’s V5C registration document. If it says ‘CDV’ then it’s a car-derived van. If it says anything else, then it isn’t.

See www.gov.uk/speed-limits. "Vehicles under 2 tonnes laden (loaded) weight may qualify as a ‘car-derived van’ or ‘dual-purpose vehicle’. These vehicles have the same speed limits as cars." I would say the Kangoo qualifies for this statement. It is all a bit of a grey area and certainly most van drivers, even larger 3.5t vans, don't understand the law. You rarely seeing them doing the lower speeds!

i think we need more of these kinds of runaround EVs people can buy as a second extra car for private use, one of these for 10k make more sense than a luxury EV for 60k

Yes I agree. People focus on range far too much. Yet the average UK vehicle use is 20-30 miles per day. If you can charge from home, you don't need a huge battery.

I think the kickdown is something all EVs should have. It means i can drive in eco mode in my ioniq 28kWh but if i need the full power dor an overtake or a merge onto an A road or motorway, i dont have to press any buttons ir worse yet, scroll through on the screen to change to a power setting and then bak to eco later. If i didnt have the kickdown, i dont think i would drive in eco mode at all.

I think all the EVs I've driven that have an ECO mode, have a kickdown function.

I Have a Renault Kangoo Maxi ZE 33 year 2020 , I got this van second hand with 22000 miles its the five seater, i am replacing front and rear brake discs and pads, Do you now what the rear hub nut Torque is. These Vans are great I get between 4.10 to 4.85 miles pkw thats driving normal, I don't find them slow.
@GoGreenAutos
@GoGreenAutos Жыл бұрын
Why changing pads & discs? They should last ages on an EV with strong regen. The discs can last the life of the vehicle. The front pads should last around 70K miles. The rears will often need changing much earlier simply due to lack of use and corrosion. Its best to brake hard at speed occasionally to keep the pads and discs clean. As for hub not torque, I don't know. You can normally find this on a Google search. It will be the same as the ICE version.

What was called car derived van is now called small van category my fault i used to drive small vans for years and that’s what they were called and the limits that were applied. But the car derived vans now are things like a Fiesta, Corsa or the Clio van. The definition is that they look exactly like the car version but with filled in windows. I believe that the Kangoo falls into the small van category and the limits are from Gov website Small vans are vans that weigh up to 3.5 tonnes. Urban (built-up) areas: 30mph Single carriageways: 50mph Dual carriageways: 60mph Motorways: 70mph (60mph if towing a trailer) Areas as signposted which are less than 50mph (e.g. 20mph): as signposted This means that the speed limit is 10mph less on single and dual carriageways; motorways and urban built-up areas remain unchanged. Local authorities can post different speed limits, therefore in a 40mph or 20mph zone, the van’s speed limit is 40mph and 20mph respectively.

@@LeeJonesNPT Yes, it seems they have applied some common sense and expanded "car derived" vans into "small" vans. It was crazy that small vans with that carry light and small loads were limited in speed.
