Renault Megane E-Tech 2022 Review: a worthy successor to the Zoe? | WhichEV

I've had my Iconic model for 8 weeks now, and it has been absolutely fantastic! Mind you, it's not a SUV/crossover, but a good ol' fashioned 90's hothatch updated for the 21 century.....good or bad?? I've been driving EV's for 10 years now (mostly Tesla Model S). I can get between 250-302 miles of range. Especially when driven carefully on Eco. It is also the 3rd lightest EV on the market. Half a ton less than my Tesla (which really hurts the range), plus it's made using plenty of Aluminium and Carbon Fibre. One good thing (according to the Power-Flow meter) is that the blowers/heaters does come out of the EV batteries, but comes out of the car's 12v battery (like it does on all Ice cars)......plus it has a nice Heat Pump! Plus you can't beat phone tech (much better and more advanced than on my Tesla), the most up-to-date on the planet, constantly updated. Plus many reviewers have clocked the 0-60 time as 6.9 sec (that is Mini Cooper S territory but with that lovely added instant torque).

Infotainment screen is 9 not 12 inch. UK does get 12 inch version as well as no heat pump and smart rear view mirror also not optional.

MY25 editions all get larger 12 inch infotainment screen except lowest trim and all MY25 editions get a heat pump. Digital rear view mirror standard on iconic trim.

Not sure the charging times are correct? Still. Good car, and a load area organiser, from Renault, helps level the boot floor. Iconic spec gets handy heat pump.

Can i use the basic 3 pin mains socket chargers to charge this

You can, but you need to be careful because running up to 3kW for hour on a domestic socket can cause it to overheat. Don't use a cheap extension cable for starters!

Really surprised at the poor efficiency of the Megane after watching reviews and seeing owners feedback.......being a compact EV you would have expected better results.Think there is some kind of glitch in the software as owners where feeding back that they where being disconnected during charging if turning car on/heating. Would like to think that has been fixed for MY25 editions.

That drivetrain is not the most efficient around - surprising, considering the Renault / Nissan EV experience.

Went to a renault dealer Cracking exterior , nice enough drive , nippy enough BUT to expensive , boot to small for a average family lifestyle , to dark inside with black headlining BUT sadly no glass roof available. To many storks on steering coloum , you will be accidently hitting the wipers instead of the other one. Miniscule button for boot and sadly for 40 plus grand you dont get a auto boot opener. Back seats ookay for 2 only but will if over 5ft 6 inches be hitting or brushing yer head on the roof lining above side windows every time you look out. Poorish vision out of stylish but narrow back window .

@@WhichEV Review your section which explains the driver display and 12” infotainment screen (which is actually only 9”), repetition, also the stalks. There is four in total I believe you only fleetingly talked on three of them. So a bit flippant and not precise. Came across to me as hap hazard. I watched the rest of your review but can’t say I was fully engaged due to this section. Hence my immediate comment on your review.

Renault said it was 12in for this trim in the launch info. Maybe they don’t carry a tape measure to car launches… and maybe you try a similar trick with your girlfriend? 😂

@@Cyberwest Cheap pun - aren’t reviewers supposed to confirm manufacturers claims? It is 12” portrait for left hand models and 9” landscape for right hand drive models. You say in your video that you only drove in Sport mode. For those looking at your review to assist them if the Megan is right for them, what of the other modes? Does Eco deliver adequate performance and improve efficiency? Is this the typical calibre and depth of reviews you undertake? Honestly if you watch your video again, in comparison to other EV reviewers, you must concur with my original comment.

@@NorthernSoulieKTF I’ve watched the other U.K. reviews and none of them have more information than this review. Renault only gave most reviewers a couple of hours with the car at the launch. In the written review the infotainment display size is correct but if you read the 50-page document supplied to reviewers it says 12in in the main section about infotainment.

A year late but you can buy a false floor from Renault but agree it should have been included
