The glove compartment is huge because it is a LHD model. Will it be the same for RHD cars too? It is never understood why only French made cars still stubbornly refused to relocate the fuseboxes for RHD models to make the glove compartment the same size as LHD ones.

It isn't 5* on every new car because the last tests were double tests, one time with basic equipment and one time with full options. Only the new Scénic and the Subaru Levorg got 5* on both tests. So it's quite a thing for people who'd rather prefer to go for the basic version of a car.

Nice car but the 60/40 middle row seating is a bit of a step backwards, three independent seats are a much more flexible option for families.

I kind of like it although compared to a Grand C4 it's a bit safe inside - better storage by the looks of it though. A 60:40 seat split in an MPV from the company that pretty much invented the idea of 3 separate 2 row seats? That's an odd design choice. Also annoying for people with 3 small kids and needing to fit car seats. I mean who else is this car for exactly?

Screen is painfully slow and they even programmed fancy unnessessary animations to make you wait longer and make it even unsafer to use. I would be annoyed every single day.

It's pretty ridiculous that you get lcd dials and 20" wheels as standard on this car, but you'd have to pay around 8000 pounds extra for those things in an Audi A4 or A6.

A good 7 seat MPV should be ideally capable of taking 7 adults in reasonable comfort and still have room for their things behind the third row. This Grand Scenic isn't worthy of that requirement, as it can't comfortably accommodate adults third row. When Renault first introduced the Grand Espace in Mk2 and Mk3 guise, it was perfectly capable of taking adults in third row and it still had good room for carrying things. Since the new model in 2003 and upwards, things haven't kept that to that essential practicality need in the Renault Grand Espace and Renault Grand Scenic which improved the Mk 2 and Mk 3 Grand Espace.

You don't mention about the size of trunk space - I find it's small for a 7 seater monovolume (the old scenic had great trunk space.

Easy in usual Renault fashion, right hand drive models have a tiny glove box into which you can just about fit a couple of packets of crisps. For a family car this is not good enough

Thanks, this is the first really satisfying review of the new Grand Scénic. We will choose this one or the BMW 2 series Gran Tourer as our family car but the Grand Scénic really seems to offer a lot for the budget. BMW has a better looking interior but the exterior of the Renault is a lot more attractive. And the interior is far friom being bad, still better than most other MPVs.

If you are OK with the BMW prices, you do get an interior that is significantly better than the Scenic, and BMW's infotainment tech that is the best on the market. I agree with the exterior, the BMW is quite bland, but since you will be spending a lot more time inside the car than looking at it from the outside...

That's the point … we could afford the BMW but the Renault would mean we'd have to make less concessions on other things. But on the other hand, my GF and her kids will drive around 60 km per day in the car (home to workplace/school and back) so it should be really a car where they feel absolutely comfortable inside which is absolutely the case with the BMW. But we will be able to see the Grand Scénic in Spa on 24th September then we can tell if it's comfortable enough.

As you may expect my Renault has had ongoing *electrical issues* Took it to Renault dealer who said they would not look at electrical problems on cars over 10yrs old even though it is their own car. I will never buy a Renault again - ever!!

So is this the future? Unsporty small cars being fitted with range rover sized wheels in an attempt to make them look cooler? How long until you can get 20 inch rims on a Kia ceed or Fiat Panda? Ironically I think that my Golf would have been better with smaller 17 inch wheels rather than the 18 inch ones it comes with as standard. Giant over compensating wheels for giant over compensating cars makes more sense.

True, I forgot about the XC90, its awesome as well. I'm personally not to fussed about design not being "in your face", and in fact I kind of like how Q7 looks. And most importantly, its a good car all round, with a good choice of engines, including a 4.0 biturbo diesel in the SQ7, great technology, safety and comfort.

Anthony McBazooka I kind of agree with you, thats part of the reason why my last few cars were all coupes. But, I don't have any kids or even friends, so I don't need much space. For a family with a few kids, I would totally get something like Tesla Model X or Volvo XC90 and I would still enjoy the car quite a lot. Which can't be said of an MPV... at least for me

3 drawbacks killed this last Scenic...Small engines in big cars - it never works under full load capacity and gets thirsty....Big wheels send constant strong hits into streering wheel on bumpy roads....Front windshield is curved so much and placed so forward that it makes you feel like a fish looking out from bowl aquarium... As a result most owners experiencing low reliability of downsized supercharged engines they didn't keep them ower warranty period...look at secondhand market in 2022....a car that was basically perfect concept was killed with nonsense fashion trends and restrictions.....and one more drawback...why utility car has carpets instead of rubber floor? And that dashboard tablet...what lifespan have these touch based devices? 5-6 years? This is where things end when family car is developed by singles...We keep one old mule in our family...a car for hard family work ...2005 Grand Scenic 2.0i Automatic LPG...that car is like built to last...what it bears after quarter milion km with relevant maintenance...unbelievable....it's like Frech UTE...the new (last one)... is just trophy miss on high heels compared to its predecesor....

Jochem Renault interiors are pretty bland tbh especially compared to Peugeot's interiors. Citroens interior also may not be the best quality wise but looks far more interesting and quirky.
