Absolutely agree, who would’ve thought an European manufacturer would go backwards and even not pointing it not out this change. As it’s being specifically pointed out es a facelift, who would think about less safety. Head injury is one of the worst injuries, that’s why you wear a helmet on your push bike. This test surprised everyone, and I think that certain clubs should stand beside the owners and not beside Renault. This very likely will cause a loss in reselling the car and of these reasons, yes Renault has to retrofit, I agree. I’ve lost trust in the brand and won’t look for an electric Megane now. There is now a lot of competition.
@giovannipagani38292 жыл бұрын
they added a picture in the ZE50 user manual only. There's no mention of the side head protection even in older ze40 (and I think also in ZE20). User manual is somewhat too "generic" in describing side protection. So they could have put it in Ze20, pass with 5 stars, and then swapped with a cheaper one years ago... Maybe Renault really hopes in a reselling loss: if no one wants your Zoe they'll be the only ones willing to offer you a trade in discount on the new, safer Megane...

Even the GT-Line didn't have AEBS at launch, mine doesn't... They couldn't get their act together in time apparently. Safety of Zoe ZE40 was one of the reasons we bought another ZE50! If this test would have come a 3 months earlier we would have never bought the ZE50 and sold the ZE40 too. Renault’s right to reply is rubbish….the safety tests are continually evolving and they acknowledge it. It changed for all manufacturers, and they all seem to be doing well. They degraded the car below 2013 safety test standard to cost cut, but with massive increase in price too. Now they come up with excuses like regulatory confirmation and all mumbo jumbo. Some one at Renault took the decision and deserves to be fired or whatever they do. I would want a recall to correct at the very least the most dangerous cost cutting they have done…the side head airbag and the seat beats among other things I am not yet aware of.

The wireless-charging-capable phone, if carried, is usually connected by USB, making wireless charging almost irrelevant. I'd much rather have better safety features instead of gimmicks like that. Yes, I would be much happier if Renault were compelled to recall all substandard cars, to fix the deficiencies. Agree that airbags should be replaced by Renault to include the head protection, but I doubt they will do that. It’s not a good look, to improve the car in many ways with the facelift, but save pennies with a cheaper airbag. Our GT Line is missing AEBS too as the early 2020 build didn’t have that for some reason. Regarding seatbelts, I have heard that Renault also removed seatbelt pre-tensioners from the ZE50, which if true is another poor look in terms of penny pinching vs the safety of their customers.

@@NicolasRaimo I asked Renault to confirm if side aircurtain is fitted to my Zoe . Thank you for your recent contact with Renault UK regarding your Renault ZOE E-TECH ELECTRIC (ZOE). Renault takes note of the results published by Euro NCAP following specific tests on the ZOE according to its new protocol implemented in 2020 The ZOE tested by Euro NCAP most recently was the base version and, since 2018, 5 years after the ZOE was originally tested, the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) available in this base version are no longer included in Euro NCAP scoring. This includes features such as Electronic Stability Control, Speed Limiter, and seat belt reminder. Euro-NCAP ratings last for 6 years after the launch of a new model which is aligned to the 'normal' lifecycle of a model across different manufacturers. The ZOE goes beyond regulations, and Euro NCAP’s own protocols, with additional safety features, for example, the Fireman Access of the battery. Since 2017 we have adapted passive safety equipment on the car considering traffic accident analysis and reconstruction (accidentology). We have also updated the ZOE with state-of-the-art ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) dependent on specification chosen, these include: Advanced Emergency Braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection; Lane Departure Warning; Lane Keep Assist, utilising onboard radar and camera. These ADAS were not fitted to the base version tested by EURO NCAP so were not accounted for in the latest results. The facelifted Zoe - ZE50 - was designed using data from the Laboratory of Accidentology, Biomechanics and Human Behaviour (LAB), which Renault operates jointly with Stellantis. The LAB collects and analyses telemetry data from all networked vehicles in France, which did not show a single accident with a tree or lamppost, as simulated by the Euro NCAP side pole impact test. However, there were accidents and incidents with pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in urban areas. Hence the decision to equip the ZOE with further assistance systems, including Lane Departure Warning; Blind Spot Warning; Traffic Sign Recognition; High Beam Assistant and Emergency Brake Assistant. The Laboratory of Accidentology, Biomechanics and Human Behaviour (LAB) was formed in 1969 by Groupe PSA (now Stellantis) and Groupe Renault. The LAB is a laboratory for accident analysis, biomechanics and the study of human behavior. Its purpose is to observe, analyse and anticipate with a view to improving road safety. The LAB has helped decrease the number of road fatalities in France by some 80% within the last 50 years. Renault reaffirms that the ZOE is a safe vehicle, which complies with all regulatory safety standards. These standards are constantly evolving and are becoming more stringent in all domains, especially in safety. Renault therefore continually improves its offer to comply with the regulations applicable where its vehicles are sold. As such features such as Full LED headlamps, Anti-Slip Regulation (traction control), CSV (understeer control), HSA (hill start assist), and others have been added to the ZOE during its lifetime (version dependant). I will never buy a Renault again. Had our Zoe (22kw) just over 5 years and the after sale is awful. At the 5 year service they wanted £400, on top of the standard cost of the service, just for changing the coolant! Recently found out the battery was reporting a SOH of 71%, after contacting the battery rental side I had to take it to the dealer and pay £195 for BMS updates as the cars software reports the SOH incorrectly? Why am I paying to fix this obvious defect, now 98% SOH so proves we've looked after the car properly so it's Renaults fault! They even said they don't check for updates at the service intervals as it takes too long?! Now hearing they are playing with peoples live! NO WAY!. Can't wait to get shot of the Zoe which is sad as we have genuinely loved the car up till now.

Not keeping an eye on the test criteria & not understanding the basic testing criteria is inexcusable. A lot of manufacturers are struggling to implement the connected framework that the industry is moving to; Renault is struggling particularly badly. From actually deprecating a OK mobile application, then taking over a year to introduce the next version, to killing the online store, removing the ability to update licenses. It's been gone over six months now. It's abysmal and displays a fundamental lack of understanding in how IT & connected services run today. Unless they re-train people (preferable) or get someone in that can actually run a service, they should stick with ICE vehicles (where they're not bad at all overall). Their response sounds like 'ChristmasPartyGate'; complete avoidance of the fact that I'll probably put my family (& others) in hospital in a ZE50. Someone high up needs to light that rocket and get the organisation into 2022!

It's absurd that "upgrading" from a ZE40 to a ZE50 will result in less effective airbags. I don't understand why they would do that either, they already have the technology and everything needed to make it work. I had been considering this updgrade, but I definitely won't while the airbag situation is as it is. I'm not so bothered by the AEBS and Lane Keep stuff, and in some situations (eg moving out to avoid a pothole) it can fight you and make you less safe, so I'm not convinced it should wreck the rating of an otherwise safe car.
@NicolasRaimo2 жыл бұрын

My Zoe 50 came with software issues which only got partially resolved. Preconditioning is mostly not working and the app is a joke. Not to mention the fact that they never mentioned the side airbag change. I boght the car convinced it has side curtain airbags just like the old model. Oh...and then I find out that despite having the LKA, the automatic emergency brake is not there. The spec says "automatic brake assistance" which only boosts braking if you already applied brake. I don’t see a problem, as there’s other vehicle on sale with a zero rating. However, I think Renault should make potential buyers aware of the safety rating of their vehicles. Buying a car on the laurels of someone else’s notional safety ratings, carried over from either previous models or higher spec’d vehicles, will only get you so far. But come that day when it all goes honey shaped, the decision you made a while back, could mean the difference between having a really bad day and having your last day ever. Potential buyers and present owners, should be made aware of, if you buy the base spec. or own it, there’s a much greater risk that you or a loved one could die in a particular spec vehicle, just because the manufacturer wanted to save money and failed to point out the vehicle’s inadequacies. If you choose to drive a less safe vehicle, that’s your choice. But you have to know in advance the safety of said vehicle, in order to make a rational informed decision.
@itekani2 жыл бұрын
And that's exactly the problem. The ZE50 has been on sale for two years, and now owners get the information that their new Zoe is worse than a 2013-2019 model. You would assume it wouldn't score well in 2021 since the standards are getting better all the time, but at least I would assume that safety features from previous models are not removed on newer models!
@NicolasRaimo2 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with the NCAP being wrong if informed yes.... however if you brought a 2013 Renault zoe and saw the ncap rating and side airbag... upgraded on 2020 would you think your facelifted car was LESS safe than the one you previously owned in a side collision?
@QALibrary2 жыл бұрын
without the electronic aids, it should have got 3 stars max, where in the "past" it would have got a 5 stars due to crash survivability (if it was tested under the old rules and it had a highenough standard) because the way NCAP moved the bar but removing airbags just beggers belief - it like Austrilan cars and even worse cars bound for Afica has even more safety features and better design striped out
