by the way those numbers where Greatly UNDER exaggerated. The true size of a Carthaginian boat could hold up to 40.000 men and up to 20 elephants. The Roman ships despite what they are claiming. where BIGGER ships. An could hold over 68.000 men per ship. They where bigger. So those numbers you are getting are completely wrong. It wasn't 100.000 men that died. it was Over 19.000.000 men that died! An considering most of Rome was men it left them with around 24.000.000 people left in Rome and Italy. Then they lost another set of ships which was basically All of their older men and new recruits. Which is another 13.000.000 men! THEN Hannibal came.

They didn't let him say "uncool"? That's a crucifixion.

If they were Carthaginian generals, you’d better believe that’s a crucifixion!

FUN FACT: war elephants were known by the romans before the punic wars started. They had to fight them when king Pirro, who was in control of the south italian peninsula hired around 30 of them. They still won in the end of course, but they did give quite the trouble.

And yet they terrified the Romans.

Just to sum the math up. With a single silver Talent being worth about forty million US dollars Carthage were expected to pay about one hundred twenty eight billion dollars, per year for the next decade to Rome. Yeah, the fuse is lit for round two.

That's almost 400 million dollars a day! This was destined to backfire!

Remember after Regulus’s defeat and the complete failure of the African campaign he could’ve been disgraced. Instead he chose to go out in a way that would make him an immortal positive symbol to Rome. I think that was going through his head as much if not more so than honor.

I mean, he did have some success in his term. Especially the battle of Cape Ecnomus. He won the largest naval battle in history and even landed troops on Africa. He may not have brought the war to an end, but for a time he brought it on Carthage’s doorstep. He may have lost his foothold in Africa later, but if you’re able to pull that off in just a few months, that alone is impressive. I think Regulus keeping his word to return to Carthage to be killed was just the icing on the cake. Regulus had two choices. Die and be immortalized, or stay and be disgraced. Like the video said, Regulus wouldn’t be glorified if he wasn’t the one to finish the war. He knew that with his defeat in Africa, he wouldn’t be the one to finish the war. So he chose to die with honor, and be remembered that way instead

@@WhydoIneedahandle1111 I’m not denying the man came up with a bold plan and won some stunning victories. But it’s amazing how quickly a single calamitous defeat can make a population forget that. His decision to go back was a very good way of minimizing any negative outcry over the battle of the Bagradas river.

@@kevinneutzling8267 Yeah, it’s ironic. But at the same, a major loss can significantly bring down morale among the Roman people. Hannibal would go on to use this to his advantage, even making Roman citizens turn against Rome itself.

This reminds me, if you haven't seen it before, I recommend giving Drifters a watch. To simplify the premise, it's an anime where a bunch of historical figures are transported to another world and have to survive a massive 2-team battle royale. Both Hannibal and Scipio are in it, and funny enough, they're on the same team.

Actually, Temujin became Temujin Khan ("Khan" being a title), and then Genghis Khan (pronounced "Chinghis", sometimes respelled "Chinggis" to better reflect the pronunciation, which might be were you got it mixed up)
