What's funny is that, Sseth probably had one of the more tamer stories in the DF. Also, he's not exaggerating the details, everything he said is literally possible in the game.

Of all the crazy stories I’ve heard from this game, one of the best was the “Shaft of Enlightenment” bug. Basically, you put a spear in the ground and drop a dwarf onto it from several stories up. The dwarf will proceed to parry the spear and *instantly become a demigod-level soldier.* The reason for this? The dwarf, for all intents and purposes, managed to parry a strike from *THE FUCKING PLANET.*

@@RexZShadow I do believe that kind of thing was fixed, though admittedly it was never something I thought to try. It sounds like an oversight from when the new physics were implemented (basically getting rid of the old "fly in a straight light, then stop instantly and fall straight down" like a cartoon physics for more realistic arcs, momentum, and even bouncing and skidding. There's still ways to train up insanely strong soldiers super fast, though, the Danger Room(tm) being the most popular one, where you basically set up a 3x3 room with traps all over the walls and floor, and load those traps with blunt training weapons, then stick some dwarves (preferably in armor) inside and let them get battered around for a couple days and they'll come out able to dodge like the Agents in the Matrix. Though if you don't put them in armor, even training weapons are likely to injure or kill unarmored dwarves when getting blasted from all sides about a hundred times a second for days.

What's crazy about this game is that everything has a story to it. Like every little thing. Even down to basic items like a dwarfs shoe might have a long story behind it.

The game is getting a Steam release with visual and UI updates. Tho the exact date isn't given the Dev is giving steady updates. Latest of which talked about making the game more accessible learning curve wise. Tooltips tutorials and all that.

You guys should check out Kruggsmash's series of videos on Dwarf Fortress. He does a good job recounting the tales of his various fortresses with appealing drawings created by himself and his wife. Personally recommend Skullhorror first since it is a short but interesting series of Dwarves trying to survive a zombie cursed biome.

The closest I ever got to Dwarf Fortress was World Box and you’re just an omnipotent God moving pieces around to influence cultures and events and you can even have personal champions. For example one of my Great Champions was Gerald the Human who has a unique trait that makes him a Giant. Gerald traveled the lands and when those pesky Elves started to want more land and started a war Gerald the Giant Farmer became Gerald the Elf killer. Liking the Gerald I gave him my divine blessing which made him tougher. Eventually he led the charge that would result in the death of the Elf King and peace. A freak storm eventually happens where Gerald The Giant, slayer of Kings, becomes immortal after being struck by Lightning. In his long life that follows The King Slayer becomes King himself and to the North where Dwarves live a Necromancer emerges and takes them by surprise creating a Undead Army that nearly wipes out the Dwarves, the flee the main land to make a new country and Gerald the Giant, King of Kings and savior of Humanity goes to War with the Undead army, only to come face to face with the Evil Wizard and die by his hand, but as he dies his body explodes in a flash of Lightning taking his enemy down with him. So ends the Story of Gerald the Giant, The Kingslayer, Lord of Lords, and Savior of Humanity.

One of my first fortresses was undersupplied with booze. I couldn't figure out farming and brewing, so my dwarves were constantly suffering withdrawal. They slow down a lot without alcohol in their system.
