Its interesting that you can see a sign labelled "Shandor Mining". As in Ivo Shandor the man Egon talked about in the first film that created a cult of Gozer worshipers and conducted rituals on the roof of the building he designed to summon Gozer. Most likely he made a mining company as a front in order to investigate something in that town likely related to Gozer and Egon lived nearby to see what it was Shandor was doing there. Maybe he's still alive....I'm glad someone noticed it.

It was probably also used for getting the selenium to make the girders of the apartment building. As for Ivo Shandor himself, he had to have been born at least 130 years ago, given the time at which his Gozer cult did its thing. Given the nature of this franchise, he might very well still appear here in the 21st century, but he wouldn't be alive.

mmm I think technically not canon since the tv show didn't have a gunner seat coming out the side-door. The toy car based off the Real Ghostbusters had the gunner seat on the roof. I don't think the tv cartoon had any gunner seat on the roof either.

I know this movie is going to be connected to the first movie but I hope it also ties into the Ghostbusters video game since most fans consider it the Ghostbusters 3 movie we never got. Plus it dives deeper into the lore behind Ivo Shandor, Gozer, and most of the ghost from the first movie.

I don't think the mother is Egon's daughter. I think the missing/absent/dead father was Egon's son. Also, I believe Egon's kid was born before the first film, would have to be age wise because a child born after the 2nd film wouldn't have a kid Finn's age unless they had him at like 12 or 13 heh ... which seems a little unlikely. Perhaps why Egon was so odd was it was a bad breakup/heartbreak for film and it closed him off.

the kids granddad has to be Egon. Harold Ramis is the only castmember who died, so it would make sense for his character to have died as well, and there's enough time for grandkids to have been born between 89 (or 91, if the Video Game is canon) and 2020

I was born a year before the original Ghostbusters was released. So I grew up watching the original, had all of the toys and everything. Then in 1989 my parents took me to see Ghostbusters 2 on premiere night. Ever since then I've REALLY wanted to see a Ghostbusters 3 done. The fact that they FINALLY did a proper third movie with all of the tie-ins to the original makes me beyond happy!! I don't even care if Finn Wolfhard is in it. I don't care if it feels like "strangers things the movie" ...this is a third Ghostbusters, a true continuation of the original franchise. Those of us who are old enough will remember hoping, wishing and praying for a third installment as far back as 1990. When this one is released next July, I will be there on premiere night!

I was thinking the same thing. Perhaps it was a "natural" ghost trap since the ore from that mine was used to concentrate spirit energy in Dana's apartment building in GB1, it could be the ore attracted ghosts and some energy on Egon's part could trap them there. After his passing though, the energy might be slowly failing and the ghosts are breaking free (making the town shake)

I knew about this. In August, I was on vacation with my family visiting Drumheller, since that's where one of my ancestors lived/owned a furniture store (could be either/or; I don't remember exactly which). We got to go on a scenic tour of the town, and we stopped off at the spot where that mineshaft scene had been filmed. The actors had already left a week before my family saw what remained of the set. There was just a taped-off hole in the dirt with cement blocks around it to use for greenscreening a mineshaft, since it wasn't that deep of a hole.

I think they did a good job with the casting for Egon's granddaughter she looks the part and from what I understand while the trailer says Summer 2020 Angry Joe reacted to one that listed the date as July 2, 2020..July is my birth month..and I will say I think THIS movie may get me out to the theater for the first time in 11 years. The last movie I saw in theaters was Indiana Jones 4..it was a choice between that or Iron Man when my dad took me and my lil' bro to the movies and I voted for Indiana Jones in memory of my mother who loved that series..it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be (dude is constantly finding ACTUAL biblical relics and people draw the line at aliens?), was it as good as the other 3? No, I'm not saying it was..I'm saying it was average. That was the last movie I saw in theaters as I have an aversion to them..noisy people talking over the movie at times (not that bad), prices even for a single person (between tickets and snacks I could go to a sit down food joint cheaper), and my ever present fear I'll miss the best part of the movie or some very important plot point because I had to use the restroom...This movie though? I think I might just treat myself to a little early b-day movie and see it in theaters if the following trailers hold up.

I'm not so sure about the Stranger Things angle. It seems to clash with what was originally at it's core a dry scifi comedy. I'm not saying it looks bad, but clearly this was written as it's own stand alone story, and Sony just slapped some Ghostbusters shit on it to help it sell. "Throw in the car, change the mining company to Shandor, and make one of the kids a relative of Harold Ramis so we can pretend we're paying tribute."

Nah I'm not that cynical about it. Jason reitman very pointedly said that it was always a Ghostbusters movie. It was never anything else. The original cast is going to come back in the movie by the way.
