Glad to see someone being fair. I mean, the Star Wars fandom kinda scares me sometimes. Episode 9 might be the only chance Lucas film has to win back the fans. It has a chance to be good. Its got Luke as a ghost, Lando coming back, JJ is back in charge, and the actors in the new films CAN be good in movies. I'm still trying to hold out hope.

Then have everyone running to the shuttles. Someone realizes akbar stayed behind. Have him silently looking at and using the ship controls, and bam! Heroic sacrifice. ROTJ had the vader saving luke scene completely silent on his part, and it was one of the most powerful moments in the entire series. Don't, you know, kill the beloved character offscreen, hardly acknowledge his death, and then tell us to cry for new (and frankly unlikeable) character when she pulls the awesome heroic sacrifice.

I DO like the Last Jedi, (I would give it a Matinee on the Double Toasted review scale) but I will admit the problems it has, and the places that made wonder why they weren't used. A. WHY didn't Holdo just tell them there was a plan! It would have calmed them down! B. Why was Luke smack talking Kylo at the end? Why not say that there's good in him, despite the failings of both the Jedi and the Sith! He could be someone that followed the spirit of the Code, not the letter!

Its been a while since I watched the film but regarding Holdo I think it was partly due to them being tracked through hyperspace, at that point the idea of tech being used wasn't even fathomed (we knew as audience but in universe they didn't), a spy was the most likely answer to how this was happening, Poe was a loose cannon and due to his actions may have to her been that spy.

Dragon Warhammer His name is Ackbar and while I understand where your coming from Admiral Ackbar is an alien, his name would probably just look like a weird alien name just like other characters like Jabba, Chewbacca and Yoda. Plus he’s not going to look like an insult because his character is neither a stereotype of those people nor was he made to insult them in the first place, he was made in the 90s where things were less politically tense with the Middle East.

Actually the problem, as a guy from Lucasfilm said on twitter: Ruin Johnson made a script for SW7, JJ saw that it was terrible and had to make up a script to justify his stupid choices. Originally TLJ had to be the 7, but TFW was created as a prologue because nothing would’ve made sense.

I do like the film but it is not perfect by any means. Anyone who says it’s a systematic failure, or who says it’s absolutely flawless is blind (especially since the conflict has been going on since Empire Strikes Back). Here are some things I would do differently. I’m not going to step on any shoes, because doing that only makes matters worse. Just some things that could benefit it. 3 deleted scenes, 2 extra lines 2 because I think they’re good, 3 to shut those damn fans up! 1. Luke’s 3rd lesson. Why that was cut I will never know. Probably for time 2. Phasma’s alternate death. That would have given her more screen time and expand just how far the villainess will stoop. Also probably cut for time. 3. Rose biting Hux’s hand. Probably would take it a bit further and have her bite the finger OFF before spitting it out (as long as the F-bomb is not dropped it’ll still be PG13 4. An extra line for Holdo, giving a “reason you suck” speech to Poe for endangering the resistance in trying to be a “hero” 5. An extra small dialogue between Rey and Snoke. While it WON’T confirm or deny any stupid theories, he will give a brief synopsis of his history, while still being more or less intune with Canon

The last jedi was an alright movie but the mistakes in the writting were SOO STUPID. Who is Snoke? Why is Rey so proficient with the force with no training? How is the first order tracking the rebels so easily? Is there a traitor among them( that actually would have been an excellent explanation why nobody was told the plan , they were afraid of the info leaking out)? If the first order really has that kind of tech why didnt they use it in the first movie? Why did Luke create a map if he didn't want to be found? And most infuriating of all, if Ray is really a nobody if they were trying to go the route of her being nothing and turning herself into something then WHY waste almost 1/3 of the movie building it up and then dropping it completely, and even then they messed THAT up by just giving Ray EVERYTHING on a silver platter and making her perfect, not all the jedi were chosen ones like the Skywalkers but at least they were reasonably capable because they had years of experience. And the Skywalkers as powerfull as they were still had to go through years of extensive training to be as proficient as.they are. Ray goes through none of that. Everything else in a movie can astounding in quality but if the writting is half-assed then the whole thing just falls apart. I dont hate the actors or the crew that worked on this movie, considering what fanfiction level writting was given to them they did a fantastic job.

@@stellaraevum799 Yes, but in the same way Luke was, he was insanely lucky, constantly escaping death by a hair. It was only after their training that they realised it was their connection to the force "protecting" them. However both anakin and luke had to go through years of training to learn how to use even the most basic force powers like the force grip and mind trick. Natural talent in the force plays a role but its useless without learning how to use it over the course of months and years. ( Ray learns how to use all of these in like a week which makes no sense -_-) its like someone gave you a car and told you to drive, you know the basics and learn it over time , but its much faster if someone teaches you. Sorry if I rambled on but thinking about this movie pisses me off, hopefully I answered your question with as much detail as possible.

@@filipvadas7602 Keep in mind that the force naturally tries to find a balance, with Anakin, Luke, and now probably Rey being three incarnations of such a balance. Snoke, Kylo, and Kylo's fellow turncoats are the only trained users of the Darkside we know of right now, but Luke, the only known trained user of the Lightside, had cut himself off from the force. So there was a major imbalance. Darkness rises and light to meet it. Ashla and Bogan will always seek the Bendu.

@@stellaraevum799 True , but that was a conclusion the fans had to come to through reading between the lines , but even then it made no sense . Luke was ,like you said, also the one to balance the force, the problem is that Luke even then had to work for his goal , whrn he first fought Vader he got his ass kicked because Vader was a sith lord with decades of training both light and dark. It was o nly after being trained by Yoda the most powerfull jedi in the franchise (excluding the skywalkers themselves) was he able to match Vader and bring balance . Ray's first real fight with Kylo sees her winning despite Kylo having training from Luke and Snoke , years of experience with the force and lightsaber combat... and then she beats Luke despite him being as powerfull if not even more so than Vader was at that age. I dont envy the writers jobs, these movies had to cater to both old fans and newcomers, but I can tell you with 110% certainty that nobody except Ryan Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy even looked at the script before it was approved. If they had given a copy of the script to genuine fans of the series for a few hours in sort of a closed off review, most of them would have pointed out the obvious flaws in the writting, hell they could have given it to.Mark Hamill or George frekin Lucas, both of them offered to help with the script or even codirect to some extent but they got turned down . I can leave the force stuff up to debate , but there is no excuse about the other plotholes in the movie. What do you think?

#1 Luke would NEVER have thrown his lightsaber over his shoulder like that, for a number of reasons. #2 As a Jedi Master, he would not have been so crotchety and negative as an older man. #3 He would NEVER have considered taking his nephew's life. #4 Kylo's mask should not have come off until his redemption - he was menacing for about ten minutes of TFA. #5 No SJWs or purple hair. It just dates the movie. #6 If hyperspace rules were going to be broken, then it should have been Leia that dies saving the fleet - not some character from #5 that we've known for all of ten minutes and nobody cares about - we've known Leia for 41 years. Also, it was a cheap shot making us think she had died at the hand of the First Order ... before the ridiculous force-gliding through space which would have boiled her blood regardless ... eeesh. #7 The senseless character of Rose Tirico should not have been in the movie (if for no other reason than she gets them all killed by sabotaging Finn's heroic gesture). #8 The Canto Bight sequence should have been about 7 minutes long and we can lose the space cows thanks. #9 Somebody should have had a word with Benicio .... #10 Luke should have USED the X-Wing that was put on show in Act One .. he should have turned up on Krait when all hope had been lost and defeat looked certain (get the crowd cheering in their seats, when did we do that in TLJ?) ... then easily kicked Kylo's ass in a lightsaber battle ... defeated the First Order forces on Krait by pulling the Supremacy down onto the planet's surface a la Legends (and get some canon in there) ... send the audience wild ... Falcon escapes and they have something to actually be happy about, unlike TLJ when they're all smiling and happy when the resistance has just been wiped out. #11 Less First Order humor please ... Hux is reduced to a joke figure, a cartoon character ... the scene with Poe 'on the line' just fails miserably ... and surely he would have been killed with the force with which Kylo smashes him into the wall? #12 Oh, forgot. No Dambuster gravity-related bombing in space, nor silly grafitti drawn onto thousands of tiny bombs please.

I actually really like The Last Jedi, for multiple reasons. Firstly, before you even get into any of the content, story, characters, any of that stuff that so many people have a problem with, I really like the film for how well it’s crafted. The cinematography, the color palette, the shot composition, the music. Everything about it, from a craft perspective, elevates it up to one of most well made Star Wars films to date, which I greatly appreciate. The set design for Snoke’s throne room alone is one of the most striking locations in the saga. And the stark red on white contrast during the Battle of Crait was impressive even from the first glimpse we got of it in the teaser trailer. Say what you want about his interpretation of Star Wars, but Rian Johnson knows how to make a movie. That much is evident. If you don’t believe me, watch Looper, and that will confirm it. Secondly, I actually really enjoyed where the story ended up. I think the original thought we were expecting from this new trilogy, especially once they announced that Mark, Harrison, and Carrie would be returning, was it would be more of their adventures. And that’s not what we’re getting. Sure, they’re in these movies, they play a role, but these films aren’t about them. The role they had in taking down the Empire has affected them for almost 30 years now, the same way it affected our perceptions of who they are as characters. No one is the same person that they were 30 years ago. People grow, mature, and their ideals can change based on their experiences. Leia went from leading a small band of Rebels, to aiding in establishing a new government system over a very short period of time. A hard task for anyone, but especially for the daughter of a Sith Lord. That would carry a lot of stigma, and that’s part of the reason she now leads an non-sanctioned resistance force, rather than the New Republic as a whole. They don’t trust her. Same goes with Luke. The son of a Sith Lord, savior of the Galaxy, the last Jedi. That’s a lot of pressure, to not only rebuild the Jedi order, but to continue to maintain that image people built of him. 30 years on, Luke Skywalker took on a near mythological status. It’s nearly impossible for someone to live up to the expectations of others who view them that way (kinda funny how relevant this idea is to our view of him as a legendary character. Almost as if it was possibly planned that way??) His failure with Ben solidified that doubt in his mind. He wasn’t a savior. He was a man who for a split second, contemplated killing his own nephew to keep the darkness already within him at bay. A contemplation he instantly regretted, but not before the damage was done. And this is where I take issue with people saying that this was out of character for Luke. Number 1: it’s a fictional character written by numerous people over the course of 40 years. I think some people forget that. Luke isn’t real. So the concept of “Luke’s character” is defined by whoever happens to be writing it at the time. Number 2: Where was the confusion and outcry when Luke went from being a whiny child who complained to Yoda all the time in ESB and got his ass handed to him by Vader, to a ridiculously in control and powerful Jedi the first time we see him in ROTJ, powerful enough to go toe to toe with Vader and ultimately defeat him, seemingly with no explanation? There wasn’t any really. It was just accepted that some time had passed and the character had matured and changed. The only difference being that there wasn’t 30 years worth of build up and hype to see him return. Number 3: the way Luke died. How exactly would people have preferred Luke die here? (Assuming he was always meant to die somehow at the end of this movie). Shot to death by the AT-M6’s? Cut down by Kylo Ren, who clearly is not as versed in combat and force abilities as Luke would be? Killed by Snoke, a man who showed up from somewhere, who nobody knew about beforehand, and just wipes the floor with the single most recognizable character in this saga, only before he is killed by his apprentice anyway? How exactly would people prefer it to have gone down? The fact that, throughout the intervening years, Luke not only discovered a new force technique, but was able to employ it so effectively, that he was able to fool another powerful force user from across the Galaxy, regardless that he died as a result, is still ridiculously impressive. We had never seen anyone do anything like that before, and I think it’s awesome that Luke was able to discover it, and utilize it in the way that he did. He went out on his own terms, not by the blade of a untrained child, or by the lightning of an ultimately inconsequential deformed man. He died by literally becoming one with the force. What else could a Master Jedi hope to achieve in death? Granted I do feel that there are some areas of the movie that aren’t exactly well thought out. Everything with Finn and Rose can literally be lifted wholesale from the film entirely and absolutely nothing would change. The result would still be the same. Also, so that it may not be said that I’m not critical of these movies, I do have a fundamental flaw with the main premise of this trilogy, which is the First Order is basically the Empire again. The fact that the New Republic just let this opposing force rise to such heights of power without doing anything about it kinda makes no sense. How were they able to build Starkiller without anyone in the Republic noticing? How were they able to kidnap and recruit children into what was effectively a slave army, without the Republic noticing? The whole premise that they just sat by and let this all happen kinda retroactively takes the victory achieved in ROTJ away a bit. This is not the story I would have chosen to be the main plot of the new trilogy, however, I have accepted that this is what we have, and so I am going along with it. The fact that we literally have no idea where Episode 9 will go is reason in and of itself for me to appreciate The Last Jedi. We likely aren’t going to be walking into a rehash of ROTJ (I hope anyway), since all of the characters who would play into those tropes are either dead or have other more interesting stories to tell. I love that the story is as much Kylo’s as it is Rey’s, since it was basically said that her force powers manifested as a result of the development of his. The force literally chose her as an opposing “force” to match him, which is an interesting concept I hope they play more with. It doesn’t matter who she is, or who her parents or grandparents are. That’s the whole message of the movie. You don’t need to be from a certain family, in order to have power or achieve great things. Anyone can have the force. Anyone can have the power, but it’s what you choose to do with it that defines how you’ll be remembered. To all the people who say it’s shit or the worst thing ever, maybe just try to take a step back, and try to understand some of the things that people, like me, who like the movie, enjoy about it. Cause guess what? The fact that these new movies exist, does not erase the originals from existence. They’re still there. You can still go back and watch them literally whenever you want. All the crappy Terminator sequels didn’t undo the greatness that is the first one. All the crappy Alien sequels didn’t ruin the excellent movies that where Alien and Aliens. Don’t worry. Your Star Wars will be around forever. Kathleen Kennedy isn’t going to break into your house and destroy your despecialized edition Blu-ray’s while your sleeping. I think if the people who hate these new films put even half as much effort into just sharing the love they have for the originals with all the kids (and even some adults) that haven’t seen them today, that they do with trying to tear down and ridicule the people who enjoy the new movies, Star Wars may just be a fun fandom to be a part of again.

Can anyone else see how much TLJ is like Halo 5? They both introduce a barely fleshed out crew of chracters with an admittedly ok if not cool looking start, then afterwards use or kill off previously established characters out of sheer principle or nostalgia factor, then expect us to buy that the new guy/girl is actually comparable to or even better than the original deal who clearly should be 10 leagues above them given their respective lore and timeskips.

It's not shoved in your face, but TFA actually does mention how the First Order is an imperial remnant. The resistance is a force against them being funded under the table by the New Republic. And the New Republic collapses due to the superweapon. Yoda was not a chosen one, nether was Windu, or Ashoka, etc. etc. There are plenty of dark side organizations besides the Sith though I too have mixed feelings about Snoke's death.

Also, why is it that as soon as Rey touches Anakin's saber, she gets a bunch of visions, despite Luke (Anakin's SON) having at no point had a vision of, say, dead younglings, a lava planet or Darth Vader, when Obi-Wan gave him the saber. How does REY have more of a connexion to Anakin's lightsaber than LUKE has? The way I see it, the only reason they blew up the Republic is to NOT have to talk about it since "people find the senate scenes boring". That's also why they killed Snoke and broke Anakin's lightsaber: getting rid of them to AVOID having to explain their presence / existance. I Know there are plenty of organisations that use the dark side but I think a guy who comes out of nowhere and: -Pulls a fully staffed and fully armed Empire out of his ass (complete with billions of Stormtroopers, hundreds of StarDestroyers and a Death Star PLANET) -Converts Ben Solo to the Dark Side -Destroys the Jedi -Destroys the New Republic SHOULD BE GIVEN AT LEAST SOME KIND OF SET UP. I mean the dude came in and single handedly wiped out all that was accomplished in the previous 6 films... and we still don't know how he manage to pull it off. Also, you're telling me that the First Order spends at least 20 years kidnapping thousands upon thousands of kids accross the Galaxy and NO ONE notices? Not the New Republic, not the JEDI, not the general population of the Galaxy? Ya know, when the systems were starting to leave the Republic and there was even a CHANCE that a Separatist alliance might come in and pick a fight, the Senate was loosing its shit. Here, a full-on INVASION FORCE pops out of nowhere and an INDEPENDENT RAGTAG GROUP are the only ones giving a crap?
