Honestly, no matter what your feelings towards the Sequel Trilogy is, I think everyone can admit that Rise of Palpatine... er... Skywalker makes absolutely no sense in every category. It makes no sense as a Saga ending, it makes no sense as a trilogy ending, it doesn't even make sense as its own thing, its story makes no sense and is riddled with continuity issues and even creates plot holes in movies and current canon where there previously were none, do I even need to continue on with how zero sense this movie makes? I'd rather watch 2 fucking hours of Jar Jar over TROS. Why? Because Jar Jar at least wouldn't fry my brain cells into dust just trying to make sense of him as a concept and character.

I agree too. As much as I f#*&ing hate Jar Jar, I at least can tolerate him more in Phantom Menace than I can tolerate this entire convoluted mess of a movie. Audience, if you want to be inspired by any story in the Star Wars mythos, don't take from this movie. Be more like the original trilogy, or Rogue One, or The Clone Wars, or Rebels, or The Mandalorian. Hell, even the video games have more to be inspired by, with The Force Unleashed, Fallen Order, Battlefront, or Old Republic! The sequel trilogy should never have tried to continue the original saga. It should have been it's own thing, but we all fell for it because of our nostalgia goggles, and then we caved in to our inner man-children when the rest of the trilogy didn't have what our fanfic forums desired.And also honestly, no matter what your feelings are toward The Last Jedi, I still find it more entertaining than Rise of Skywalker.

I get Rian Johnson was given creative control by Kathleen Kennedy to do his own thing that felt off putting to those who loved Force Awakens, myself included. I get that, but Rey being related to no one makes more sense than being related to Palpatine and then taking on the Skywalker name. Holdo not explaining the plan entirely and risking a mutiny was ridiculous, but so was Poe's rash arrogant behavior in the face of danger and risking lives for the sake of being a badass. And Snoke's backstory doesn't matter d#*& anymore. Hell, it didn't really matter when it was revealed he wasn't as big as his hologram portrayed him as. And it was completely dashed when they introduced the clone plotline. These Darth Plaegus butt boys need to- 🎵Let it go, man!🎵- because Plaegus was just edge used by Palpatine to corrupt Anakin further.

TFA was practically a remake of A New Hope in all but name only worse, TLJ was a middle finger to the long time fans with political pandering and social commentary mixed in, and ROS was the single best example of "when you try to please everyone, you please no one" that I've ever seen. Mass Effect 3 was a significantly better ending third of a Sci-fi saga than the Sequel trilogy was. The Disney trilogy as a whole is so bad that I'd rather be strapped to a chair and be forced to watch a compilation of every Jar Jar Binks scene on loop for the full runtime of the Disney SW trilogy.

I have mad respect for Micah talking about Dark Empire in a positive note. I know it has its haters, but to me, it tells what originally happened after the Star Wars movies in a much better and less confusing way than what Disney gave us. The original cast is back together, the Remnants of the Empire is led by the resurrected Palpatine and several inquisitors, and Luke is beginning to rebuild the Jedi Order by training some new recruits and even teaching Leia some things. Luke even gets dangerously close to becoming the next Vader, but Leia brings him back. Luke and Leia even have their own lightsaber duels against Palpatine! (Not to mention, Boba Fett returns!)

There's a problem with laying all the blame at Johnson's feet. That being, all those setups JJ had were bland, uninteresting rehash setups. Snoke was always just gonna be Diet Palpetine, JJ's Rey was always just gonna have a rehash of Luke's backstory. Johnson ending them all wasn't a waste of great setups, it was turning the pointlessness of rehashed setups into an intentional story element. And when you read Treverrow's script, you realize that was always the plan. To strip away the familiar setups and leave a blank slate for an exploration of Rey and Kylo Ren's characters on a deeper level. When you read Treverrow's script, suddenly the entire ST makes sense. TFA was never actually about setup, it was diversion. Treverrow's script was like the reveal at the end of a magic trick, revealing to us that while we were so focused on one story, another one was being told the whole time under our noses. But because people threw a massive fit at TLJ and at Johnson, whose film was the lynchpin of that original plan, the plan was cut short. Which not only led to TRoS being awful, but also means even TLJ loses its original purpose and is worse in retrospect due to it seeming like TRoS' problems all come from TLJ now. But that was never gonna happen, until people lost their minds at TLJ. We could've had a trilogy that for all its faults in the moment, becomes a cohesive, grand whole. But instead, people threw tantrums so large that KMT had to live in fear of people actually assaulting her just for how her character was judged. A crazed fandom unwilling to give new ideas time to sit and simmer caused this franchise's downfall. It's not Rian Johnson's fault. It's ours. And yeah, I'm included in that. Reading Treverrow's script was a wakeup call to myself, because I was one of those fans throwing a tantrum over TLJ too.

With rays constant sway between light and dark it could have been interesting to have Ray turn to the dark side killing kylo while Finn becomes the new Jedi with ray having no connection to sidious thus sticking with the message the first 2 movies were already pushing about the names not being important as both the new sith and Jedi have no ties to the Jedi and sith of the path opening up new directions for future movies

I personally don't think the idea of Rey being related to Palpatine is bad but what I would have done was make Rey a Palpatine clone that was protected by some kind hearted scientists that were ordered to "get rid of the failed experiment" because it wasn't fully Palpatine DNA, that being the reason Rey is female and why her "parents" and nobodies, because traitors would be marked as scum. But Rey being alive gave the Emperor a chance to return from death in another form and Rey going to that planet and finding an empty throne with a burnt robe placed on it draws her closer till she picks it up and starts becoming the Emperor.

To be honest, the story of Rey's dad could've been compelling. For all we know his mother could've been like Margret White but a Palpatine fanatic. As for Rey's mother, she could've been Obi-Wan's daughter. At least it would make sense as to how Rey's so powerful. And, both parents could've been born, at least, prior to "Revenge of the Sith". Also, while we're on the topic of family ties, why the flip wasn't Kaydel Ko Han and Leia's daughter? She was played by Carrie Fisher's kid, Billie Lourd! She was even given hair buns!

Second, Chewie getting the medal was fan service plain and simple. Why? because there are at least 3 or 4 different stories that say he didn't WANT it! Wookies are honor based, to him it was shameful to receive praise for something he would have done anyway. Third and finally, I agree that Last Jedi sucked, but I'd put that miles above this garbage. At least the plot flowed more smoothly and there were some cool shots and interesting character moments (not a ton, but a few). Am I saying Last Jedi was good? No, I'm saying Rise of Skywalker was THAT BAD! That's why my canon for what happened after Return of the Jedi is Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and Last Command by Timothy Zahn. (I'll be adding Dark Empire when I finally get to read it, thanks again Micah)

I'll say it, i didn't like the Sequels but i think TFA was ok and TLJ...kind of good. But ROS...i almost despise this movie. The worst movie of the entire saga and by far. Of course, if people like it, good for them, if this is their opinion, good. To me, Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith are the best to me. Of course, ESB is a little above but ROTS is the best with Episode V.
