and after the throw, ichigo literally tells renji to protect her with his life, meaning it’s RENJI’s job to protect her and renji follows through with it throughout the whole series and both of them almost becoming inseparable throughout the whole manga. later on in the manga, ichigo bows in front of orihime and literally makes a promise to protect her. it doesn’t get anymore obvious than that.

Honestly, Renji was the character that made me realize Kubo’s strengths as an artist due to his design and as a character writer. The amount of complexities Renji had as a supporting character during the Soul Society arc it really ties so much of the arc together. Hell almost all of the characters do, but Renji’s just stuck out to me especially during his battle with Byakuya

You know thinking on it, it actually kinda makes sense why Renji wouldn't have his true Bankai until his training with Ichibei, Renji trained for his Bankai to save Rukia from her execution like Ichigo. But unlike Ichigo Renji didn't use the special technique Urahara, so basically he did in a few days and made a rush job of it which is understandable given the time span, so of course he didn't get his true Bankai he didn't complete his training for it properly and as such in Zabimaru's eyes he didn't earn it.

I remember reading Renji's monologue about his and Rukia's background and I thought "He's in love with Rukia. It's so obvious. Love isn't just blushing, bickering and pick up lines, it's also a bond that forms after being with each other for so long that when you get together nothing has really changed." I liked how during his fight with Mask he claimed to be the villain when Mask called him out on what he stood for. It was a subtle show of Soul Society's dark side (especially with their bloody past with the Quincies). But in the end he is definitely someone to have watching your back. The fact that he ignores while giving a middle finger to the rigid traditionalism and discipline of Gotei 13 makes him standout. Byakuya will do something only to follow orders and traditions, Renji will do it because it's the right thing to do. His origins in the slums of the Rukon sure gave him a humble moral sense.

Renji and Ichigo were the mirror images of Soul Society and the Human world. I could see how much they were alike with all arcs done in the Anime. Even when one might b1tch out the other from time to time. I could see the friendship between Renji and Rukia was more. Though several were trying to ship Rukia and Ichigo, I didn't see it. When the two battled during the SS arc, Renji's flashback of their friendship is where I saw how it was more than that. He mentally admitted to himself that he loved her, but knew nothing could come from it since she was of Noble class. And I agree, Renji, like several characters, is well-written and grew up over the short time leading to the TYBW arc. His personal growth increased the strength of Goethe 13 and Soul Society. I have been watching several of the analysis and 'explained' though they were done 7 months to over a year ago. DB's approach has helped me see some things I had forgotten about, but helped re-enforce how much I understood. Though I know the fillers may have not been part of the main manga, but gave me a better understanding of the whole series. For example, the zanpuktou arc in the anime may not have been part, but it helped me understand the relationship between person and blade.

I was an anime-only viewer of bleach years ago (planning to read the manga after rewatching the show), so I didn't know that the manga had concluded until some time when my friend said "Ok so Bleach is done and Ichigo married Orihime and Rukia married Renji". I remember being confused as to why Ichigo and Rukia didn't end up together bc on the surface they were practically written to be eventual love interests. But when i rewatched the show and these analysis videos, I realized that a large chunk of what Renji did in his life was FOR Rukia and/or BEING with Rukia, or proving his worth TO Rukia, and that seems way more romantic to me. Half the time Renji was always thinking about Rukia's best interest over his own. And we get some minor non-verbal hints from flashbacks that Renji probably harbored some feelings for Rukia that went a bit more than just familial/platonic love, at least in their childhood. They have far longer history than as well, so it kind of makes sense that they'd choose each other as spouses, the "I married my best friend" kind of deal. The Ichiruki dynamic to me now feels more like soulmates, but not in the romantic sense, more like the "my bond with this person goes deeper than friendship, arguably deeper than familial" kind of thing? Side note, a part of me wonders if the reason why Byakuya recruited Renji to be his lieutenant was partially bc he knew Renji was Rukia's closest friend and either wanted to keep tabs on him or knew what they meant to each other and, as Renji's Captain and Rukia's brother simultaneously, discreetly provided them both an opportunity to be equals and be together again

You can say Its a trend , and if you read safwy and also watched the turn back the pendulum arc, the kenpachi that came before Zaraki was weak as hell , even the captain's were surprised how he got the position but before that guy the other kenpachi's were really really strong.

@@morving7714 there’s three ways to become a captain.. 1) take the captain proficiency test, which requires the ability to perform bankai. Presumably, most Soul Reapers become captains using this method. At least three existing captains, including Head Captain, have to witness the test. 2) have personal recommendations from at least six captains and approval from at least three of the remaining seven. 3) defeat a captain one-on-one with at least 200 witnesses from the captain's division. Kenpachi Zaraki and Kenpachi Kiganjō are the only two known captains to have achieved their rank using this method.

I want to know more about Hanataro's past and his brother. I know they grew up in district 42 and their father wasn't around, their mother died when Hanataro was really small, and Seinosuke would scavenge for food and steal food to keep little Hana alive. But living on the streets as a small child and almost starving to death every day must have been terrible... And Seinosuke became desperate and greedy for money and there's a short little comic of Seinosuke coming home to little Hanataro with a bento his "colleague" made for Hana. Was he in squad 4 at the time? Did Unohana make the bento? But inside was a live lobster 😂 But Seinosuke was able to put a roof over Hana's head and keep him fed so I respect him for that. But he repressed his emotions and focused on logical planning for survival. Keeping Hana alive and safe. But little Hanataro did run up to Seinosuke for hugs and Seinosuke would turn his back on him. He probably didn't know how to respond to affection. But it probably also caused Hanataro to develop attachment issues. But knowing all of this, it makes sense why Hanataro is so anxious, and why he became so attached to Rukia so quickly just because she was kind to him, as most soul reapers would abuse him and bully him and beat him up... And Seinosuke's last words to Hanataro before leaving him was "become strong, and maybe you can obtain the position I was cheated out of." And Seinosuke wanted to be the next captain but Urahara was appointed instead. We know Hana had a poster in his room that said "Shoot for the 6th seat!" so we know he was actively trying to move up the ranks, and he has since been promoted to 3rd seat. So I wonder if Hana is actually trying to become a captain of squad 4 and if he's doing it in hopes that his brother will acknowledge and be proud of him, or at least speak to him again. But I don't think Seinosuke will do that... And since strong souls get cast down to hell, I'm freaking out please let Hana resign oh no 😭 It's also important to point out that Hanataro was fully intending to give up his life to fight Byakuya in the beginning, and Ganju acknowledged that even though Hanataro was trembling, he wore a brave face and walked forward through the fear, to protect people he cared about. It showed Hana's resolve and that he is actually very courageous and will stand up for the people he cares about and what he believes in by trying to help Rukia escape, and trying to protect Ganju and Rukia. But it also shows that Hanataro may not have valued himself or his own life at that time, and felt his life was worth less than their lives were... It shows what a good person he is, while also showing how depressed and self loathing he was. I loved seeing him become happier later in the series and becoming more confident in himself and his abilities while also becoming less shy with Ichigo and everyone. There is a lot to love about Hanataro Yamada and I wish he was appreciated a lot more. And I loved seeing Ganju become a kinder and more gentle person after meeting Hana. He became really protective of Hanataro and he seemed to become nicer and less of a punk and in the bount arc he runs off the second Hana calls him for help at the convince store lol But he went to Ichigo just to help him feel better and I don't think he would have done that in the beginning. But seeing him hug Hanataro and both of them being so happy to see each other warmed my heart. And then them being in their own adorable and ridiculous slice of life spin-off working at a convince store together was really funny and cute.

I only had one question and oddly enough it isn't even about him but his daughter. How is she so old already? I might be basing this on Hitsugaya but I was under the impression that soul children grew slower than human children do So how is she so old?

Note the reason Renji and Rukia friends died is because there Spirit energy became too strong for them and drained and kill them you only get hungry in the soul Society when your energy is low notice how their friends were starting to get hungry as they became stronger because being in the presence of a strong spiritual energy will drain your spirit energy

I theorize this: Soul society is where souls go when people die, so how is it that shinigami die. There isn’t a super death. Rather the show continually refers to balance between realms so in the world of Bleach reincarnation is how the souls move about and the purpose of Hfil in bleach is to purify the souls of an evil nature to be reborn good natured. The souls of Renji and Rukia are souls that would become Chad, Ichigo and Uryu.
