Joseph Edwards Arena not really, since Renly was intending to make an heir with Margaery Since Caron, Morrigen and Crane all join Stannis along with most of his bannermen, you could argue that Stannis is heir to Renly Like Robb Starks, his kingdom died heirless, with the remnants of it joining Stannis or Joffrey/Tommen. Plus after Renly died, the Rainbow guard disbanded: some were killed by Loras, some joined Stannis, others joined Joffrey. What Youri probably meant was the guard didn’t last any battles, not its members

He was an idiot. His stupidity led to decisive Lannister victory. If he was smarter, he would have negotiated with Stannis. Tyrels would then probably abandon him, because Stannis's wife was from house Florent, their rival house in the Reach. But on the other side, Rob Stark wouldnt go independent if he had no other choise than bend a knee to Stannis. Maybe the Lannister-Tyrell alliance would still have won, but at least there would be some chance for Rob and Stannis. Stannis wasted so much time going to Stormlands to deal with Renly. If Renly wasnt an idiot and Joined Stannis at Dragonstone with his army, and attacked Kings Landing earlier, i doubt Lannisters and Tyrells would arrived at the time.

Not that it matters much if Stannis had a son, but most likely he wouldn't have, because it is not likely that Selyse would be able to get pregnant anymore, it was hard enough for her when she was younger. In fact, offer was too good for a idiot like Renly, but i understand why Stannis had to do it. Renly wanted a crown for himself, not for his family or his sons. His selfishness and stupidity led to deaths of many good men all over the seven kingdoms.

Renly sees to have a more heroic nature in the television adaption, many don't realize how villainous Renly's actions are. Because Renly thinks he would be a better ruler than Stannis, he is willing to go to war with him (in an already war torn and divided nation) and ultimately murder him. He also refused to help Ned Stark in supporting Stannis, possibly contributing to Ned's death. Renly even turns down an offer of alliance from Stannis that would probably have made him King eventually and would enable him to hold a lot of power in running the Seven Kingdoms. In the television series, Brienne tells Podrick Payne that Renly once comforted her after being bullied for her appearance but in the novels, he insults her behind her back, as well as Shireen. Renly was nice and danced with Brienne too when he was a boy in the novels, but he he grew up to be vain and sardonic, hence Stannis grieving only for "the boy he was, not the man he grew up to be".

Here's how Stannis could've won: Step 1: Renly marries Margaery Step 2: Renly becomes Stannis' heir Step 3: In doing this, the Baratheon bros have secured the Stormlands, Reach, and some of the Crownlands in one fell swoop Step 4: Since this occurred before Robb became King, he wouldn't test his luck. Balon might, but who cares Step 5: Robb allies with Stannis and Renly and they take KL. They then secure the Westerlands, Vale, Iron Islands, Lannister allies in the Riverlands, and Dorne Step 6: Stannis is king and everything starts to be awesome forever, at least until Dany shows up

I'd imagined, if Loras was a lot less headstrong and impulsive, Royce might've convinced him that there is more to the death of Renly, especially when Loras finds out later in the books vis Jaime Lannister that it wasn't Brienne that did it. It's very symptomatic of the masses of people whose first introduction to the series was the show, of which that scene is, of course, the first. As obviously adaptations to the screen are, by their nature, much more literal than a book, the viewer is presented with Waymar being a cocky asshole. While this is just Will's perspective of him in the books, it is literally the character you see in the show. So when people, having seen the show, then decide to read the books they are far more accepting of these unreliable points of view as they have already experienced them as literal depictions.

(1) Renly has to make a bid for the crown b/c Lannisters would have marginalized him after Robert died. (2) Renly would have survived the WOTFK had Stannis not used dark magic to kill him. (3) The Tyrells would have had significant influence at court if Renly succeeded but he would not abdicate his power to the Tyrells the same way Robert abdicated to the Lannisters. I think if Renly teamed up w/ Stannis instead of war w/ him than the Boratheons would still be relevant in the current story if not win the WOTFK.

Everyone shits all over Renly and his rainbow guard as being stupid and inexperienced, but they would 100% have won the war if it wasn't for Melisandre's shadow magic. We see Renly's tourney as frivolous nonsense because we were getting it from the perspective of Catelyn who had just arrived from the war torn Riverlands. Renly was advancing slowly up the Rose Road, holding banquets and tourneys along the way because every day more men flocked to his 'glorious' cause whilst his enemies were already killing each other - and it would have worked if it wasn't for the Melisandre.

And House Tyrell has a rose as a sigil so they must be weak military with only sassy female characters (lol). And Bronn is a comic relief fan favorite that always does whatever he wants on the show. Martin wrote amazing, well written, realistic characters. D&D are bad even at writing basic Hollywood storylines.

Naa this Kingsguard isn't even that bad. Loras and Brienne are top tier fighters. In the current story most of the knights aren't even that great including the actual Kingsguard. The greatest knights at the start of the story were Barristan and Jaime and one was an enemy and the other traveled to Essos. Other great fighters were Oberyn who would never join a kingsguard, Garlan Tyrell who was married and the second son of Mace and the Mountain who was an enemy. So his Kingsguard ain't too bad for what he could work with.

The Kingsguard is very closely linked with the Faith of the Seven, so it would be unclear if Stannis would have adopted it. However, if he did, here are a couple who could potentially be members: -Lord Commander: Richard Horpe. Horpe is described in the appendix as being Stannis' "second in command", which would make him one of his more valued knights -Godry Farring. Makes sense as he is a renowned knight within Stannis' leagues, even if he is boastful. Also I believe Farring is a second son, so there is no need to reward him with land or titles. -Ser Clayton Suggs. Has seemingly no desire for land from Stannis, and (as shown in a Yara chapter) that despite his sadistic, crass nature he is somewhat fearless (shown when he blindly confronts the Ironmen, not knowing if they were friend or foe). This is a trait that we know Stannis values. -Devan Seaworth (or one of Davos' remaining sons). Davos has four remaining children, making it likely that as a reward for lenient service one is taken into Stannis' kingsguard. Granted, this would take time and only be implemented years after Stannis' initial conquest. -One of Queen Selyse's knights. This would be purely as a show of good faith. Most other knights in Stannis' service are supporting him in hopes of gaining Land in return- for example, Justin Massey is desperate for a wife of high nobility, or are too old or unskilled. *Asha Greyjoy, my apologies.

If you're talking about mentioned in the books then there is plenty of houses with distant family members you wouldn't know even exist. One is Lyonel Tyrell, son of Leo Tyrell and Alys Beesbury. If you're talking about characters that appear in the books then Moreo Tumitis is one. He is a captain of a ship that takes Catlyn to kingslanding in book 1. There are many more as George has created many characters that don't matter and are hardly even mentioned in the books.

Having high birth will often mean you're a much more skilled fighter, having been trained since boyhood in marshal skills. Just like Jon Snow vastly outskilled the other recruits when he joined the NW, I think Waymar made a similar impression. Sure there are others who have more experience, but we see Waymar leading a scouting party of 3, not exactly an army of rangers.
