When I show people Ren, they always seem to want to compare him to the best in that particular genre, which is already a compliment… but it’s the versatility that’s amazing. Take those bests and throw them into different situations. Like imagine Kanye trying to do this. Or one of the best guitarists trying to do Genesis. Impossible.

So true. I fell in a brief trap of thinking of Ren as a rapper... it only lasted a couple of days and the whole time all I could hear in the back of my mind challenging "rapper" was that his rapping is an instrument. He's either singing when rapping, or he's using rap like a drummer (a drummer using jazz techniques, but doesn't play jazz)
@allisonal7 ай бұрын
Yes yesss. I’m fairly sure genres were only so tightly defined and enforced in the past because streamlining them made music business & promotion more convenient for the labels, radio stations, etc. But it’s entirely unsurprising that a natural musician/performer with varied interests and influences would visit all of them within his body of work. And the synergy between the influences takes him to a different (and arguably, new) level. See: bringing musicality into rapping, and dropping a casual little rap section into a crooning performance 🥬

Rens comment section in a nutshell: "Ren, I hate fangirling, but as a 9,000 year old demi god your music is what keeps me young, it makes me relive my golden days, seriously, I mean it, everytime I feel like I'm getting old, and want to relive my good old 2,000s, I listen to your music, it always puts a smile on my face, I lost hope in all forms of music and artists long ago but when King Henry VIII introduced me to your music I was relieved to see that there's at least one artist left who makes actual good music. Thank you, Ren." I've stated quite a few times this comment was not meant to offend anyone, I just saw a pattern in comment sections (no offense to anyone who leaves these comments, they are nice) so I decided to make a joke around it, sorry.

Jimmy had a really weird time line. He sold nuclear secrets way before he moved imports and exports out of Cuba, which just seemed like a little bit of a downgrade. Love how you lift up talent. These ladies and the bass player were great, and your vocals constantly get better (unbelievably). But the mixed voice w/ distortion that thins out into a straight head voice… I’ve never heard you do it so effectively. Also, it sounded to healthy. Great vibe, vocals, music, and location. Please consider collaborating w/ these musicians again :)

I thought the same until my Mrs told me the winner (whatever her name is) is an independent artist after getting crap from her label and making it herself, I respect that. So, to the Brits, yes, crap but, it's a teeny weeny step forward, that's what Ren wants?

This music has saved my life and helped me to rediscover the person I thought I lost not just that but it's given me the desire to expand and discover more of just who I can still become....also it is great for profiling people who I meet that just may not be on my level. Real time saver and potential for preventative maintenance as boundaries have been a huge theme in my life. Keeps out the riff Raff if played constantly around those certain types that may just not have the greatest intentions as often as they seem to feel it's necessary to constantly repeat ..... Thanks ren for being u. So thankful to be alive at this time to exist and be alive at the same time as the greatest artist alive is such an absolute highlight of my entire existence. Whether or not he's A I. I still couldn't have survived the last year with out this sexy and all around brave strong and down to earth one of a kind soul.
