What many forget is that Ren earned his stripes as a street performer before he became known to the whole world. Live performance to him is like breathing air. At this stage we should no longer be surprised at his level of mastery... we really just all need to accept that we're dealing with someone that hasn't gotten to where he is through help from a marketing company/labels. He's the real deal. ...and it's his unplugged sessions that prove it to the critics.

I think we have been kinda lucky Downunder due to national radio having an "unearthed" project to find and promote musicians that wouldn't usually have any opportunity to go beyond busking or pub gigs. John Butler spent years busking before becoming known then started his own label to help others. Silverchair never would have gone beyond a few local pub gigs without the help of SBS/ABC. Briggs has done a lot as well. Some sad stories like Tumbleweed back in the 90s though who got screwed over by dodgy contracts. I just wish I'd found Ren years ago.

I was very suicidal when NF dropped the HOPE album and the next day I found Ren. I don’t know 100% but if HOPE didn’t drop when it did and I didn’t find Ren all at the same time I don’t think I’d be typing this right now. Forever grateful to the power of music and Ren and NF in particular. I wish I could give Ren a hug and say thank you for what he’s done for me and I’m sure others.

Always astounds me how good REN is, he needs to offer some shows so we can pay homage and enjoy his music in the flesh. If anyone knows of dates for performances I would love to attend. Next time Glastonbury comes around I won’t be surprised to see REN on the main stage.

What is this?!? I fucking love this! Usually, with artists, I have a preference either for their live, acoustic and/or studio type songs... But Ren, holy crap, all of your songs are ridiculously so good that I am in love with any version. How do you keep doing this? They are different enough that they can even be listened to on the same freaking playlist! Usually, you want one or the other, depending on your mood. You've got this broken old lady tapping her feet and actually smiling in a really rough time. And the fact that your song is called "murderer" and it makes me smile... how do you do this? Your songs have made me laugh, hit me with nostalgia (What you Want), smile, and cry harder than I have in a while (How to be Me, SUIC!DE, for Joe and even the kindness at the end of Dumb King Come made me tear up lol). Your kindness and outright love and loyalty to people and your message of hope is heartwarming and beautiful. Gave me the warm and fuzzies that, as a mid-50's man, I truly thought that I'd never hear a true artist again in my life. Ren has broken that notion, and hopefully his influence will coax the latent talent out of younger aspiring artists to be great artist.
