Excellent performance of this Thelonious Monk 'finger-busting' classic by the formidable Renee Rosnes trio on the sorely-missed (by jazz fans) "BET on Jazz" TV channel. Renee (pronounced REE-nie) is inventive, explosive, and very facile with excellent rhythmic support. I love the way she rarely even looks at the keys. Thanks, allthatjazzsamples, for the video.

Great performance indeed. Rosnes and Billy Drummond (no relationship with Ray Drummond, despite their playing often together) WAS Renee husband (they have a son, but Renee is now living with Bill Charlap). The bass player could be Ira Coleman, not sure though

Her husband, Bill Charlap, while he can get down and into that Bud Powell type driving style, seems, in my opinion, to be not as comfortable with it as his wife is. She's dynamite. On the other hand, no one but Bill Evans can top Bill Charlap in creating a mesmerizing mood. His playing drips with feeling and sensitivity.

I'm back to get another listen to this excellent performance by Renee Rosnes and the group of this Monk classic. BTW, since her marital status was brought up, she married jazz pianist Bill Charlap in 2007 and they have released a highly-regarded duo jazz recording called "Double Portrait". Enjoy!
