Haha. Oh man. Same thing happened right outside my mechanics shop. It was a quick fix for me. I remember it being some plastic ball that connects to the linkage and my mechanic had a spare part from a 928 that he dropped in there. The car was back on the road in minutes. Good luck with the repair

Nice car now just position your Porsche crest center caps so that they're pointed to the valve stem as they did when they left the factory. Enjoy!

Great to see a Porsche used as intended for enjoyment of the journey and luckily an easy fix - very glad failed in driveway as could have been a very expensive retrieval 🙏👏😎

I was way out on a PCA drive last summer, and when i pulled into my driveway the water pump gave. Got mighty lucky there too!

Hi Will, Great video and coverage and you were soooo lucky with that gear linkage. Keep up the great videos and commentary. On another note, sorry for checking this, but can you have Charles look at your front rotors, I am pretty sure they appear to have been put on the wrong side of each other. You really dodged a huge bullet. Those remote mountainous wooded areas with dirt roads usually don’t have cell phone coverage for you to call for help if it had broken down there. Unless you have the latest iPhone that you can send text messages to the emergency services by satellite.

How did it drive on gravel? I have a few miles of gravel where I live. Trying to decide between the 911's, Caymans & Boxsters, which generation will best handle a little 'country' driving.

i could imagine you hit this link arm with a stone while driving over the forest service way and the connection was halfway loose until your at home, then the welding cracked

I think it might have been halfway torn ever since I bought it. So much less lateral slop is than before since it’s been welded.

How was the Tapoco Lodge? We frequently visit family in Knoxville and driving around that area is beautiful. Saw the Tapoco and considered booking a few nights to enjoy some isolation and do some hiking.

My shifter cable broke on my 981. Luckily, I was less than a mile from home and it broke while in first gear.

Will it could be a misperception but has appeared on some videos that you seem to shift more with your fist rather than your fingertips, feeling the way into gear. As Bruce Anderson used to point out never rush a shift on a 911.

If a part is going to break the driveway is the best place. That was an OEM or aftermarket shifter? Grand Prix white has been one of my favorites.

What was the determination on the spongy brakes? Also, have you done a headlamp retrofit on this 993?

I let it ride. Not a problem in daily driving and didn’t want to spend the money right now. Previous owner may have done something with the lights not sure

Get the RUF short shifter for your 993… it’s so much fun! But please improve your work on the steering wheel. There’s no need to change the hands position on that curves.

I like the factory shift action enhanced only by the Fister golden rod. As far as steering wheel work, you’re probably right. Had a lot of fun though!

Is that an aluminum part where the weld broke? Welding aluminum is an imprecise art.

Not sure. It’s been repaired and has much less lateral slop. I think it has been failing for awhile and I didn’t realize it.

@@Rennthusiast I'm sure it feels super tight and crisp now! Sometimes components that aren't supposed to ever break actually do break, unfortunately even on a Porsche.
