Great video. Thank you. Just to confirm i have tested this on the 3000w version and it works. Im not sure why and if im fully comfortable with a nuetral ac bond to a dc negative but as you have shown, it does the job. Just as a side note, sunshine solar do an inverter with a N+E bond switch so it is rcd compatible. Thanks again

Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you got some use out of it and the solution works with the 3000w inverter also. Sterling in the uk are fully compliant with all current regs. There is a price difference though.

Thank you for the video, could you kindly explain what the middle consumer unit does? The larger one is for hook up.. should the RCBO been a double pole in the slim unit.

Yeayyyy.... inverter problem finally sorted, Graham so good news all around. Thats the very inverter Ive had my eye on when I do my electrics under the rock and roll bed-along with changing my ctek 250 se to the renergy dc to dc mppt thingy ma jig and possibly a renogy lithium 100ah battery. Hopefully another frstration got rid of for you. Bessy regs- Kenny

Need a charger now 🙂 tbh I bought this one first and when it arrived I tested it and it was center tap. I spoke to Renogy and they said nothing could be done so it went back. That's when they told me the Inverter charger was NE bonded. The staff really don't know their own products for the most part. It took 3 months to resolve all issues and come to an agreement. Even now it won't auto switch to mains without back tripping all the RCDs back to my main board. I can solve that though and we just need to be getting on. The Joys of building a van. Thanks Kenny, have a good end to the week. All the best G 🤠

Hi Graham, great informative video. Why have you removed the Renogy PCL inverter and replaced it with the standard inverter? Is it because of the issue with bonding the N-E? I have the 2000w PCL inverter and am currently chatting with Renogy in regards to converting the output to N-E bonded instead of floating. Thanks again, Jolly
@traveling-taylors
@traveling-taylors 11 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you for your comment. When i first purchased the PCL i communicated with them and the assured me it was NE bonded. Me being me I tested it as soon as it arrived to find it wasn't. This was not good as they could have killed someone with their information. In one of the other videos talk about it. Long story short though I was going to take them to court, they settled before that and I had to sign an NDA. It was thier technical who I spoke to about the PCL and 2000w I Have now. They said there was bo way to make the PCL NE as the charging circuit would shut down. I ended up opting to make my own switching safety circuit for the 2000w. This works every single time I have tested it. I do this before every trip along with checking the main wiring setup. Neither of the units I had from Renogy worked in a fault condition with their own internal system. I opted for a seperate charger and went for the fogstar unit. That is another Story :-)

@@traveling-taylors Thanks for the reply Graham. I'm a 'test on arrival' person too 👍. In what video do you discuss the issues you've had? I've been hoping the PCL could be converted so I'm glad I found your video. I spoke with Renogy on behalf of a customer to discuss the N-E dilemma and they explained it wasn't possible and could offer a refund. I gather it's an issue that's raised regularly so I'm hoping they redesign their units in the not to distant future. I was hoping that a similar setup could be achieved with the PCL like you have with the 2000w inverter using a relay. When the inverter is on mains it supplies 'grid' power (N-E bonded) so an RCD can be used. Regards, Jolly

@traveling-taylors
@traveling-taylors Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. The UK company is Sterling Power. Their products, although more expensive conform to the current UK regs and do all the things I have made the Renogy do automatically. I have to be honest though, they failed to respond to me after a couple of emails. As such I ended up working with Renogy, the contact I have there began to reply everyday and took ownership of the problem. Renogy are hard work, their first point of contact customer service seem to have no knowledge of their own products. Once I got through to someone who could coordinate with different departments things moved better - not perfect but better.

@@traveling-taylors I don’t have it connected anymore but I believe there was a red ground light that stayed lit up.. The inverter worked for me when I first connected it., used it for a minute with small load.. but while using it, the connections arced from being loose.. Then I connected new Anderson connectors to my battery and now I am stuck with the red ground light and beeping for 40 seconds until I turn it off.. I assumed I damaged it or faulty unit.. I bought new redodo inverter and had 0 issues with it.. I want to use the renogy in my car though

Would you recommend this ? Reading mixed reviews especially regarding its ability to trip rcbo’s or rather lack of ? Not sure how much of an issue this is. Seems really good for the price though. I’ve just installed a 280ah lifepo4 battery so am considering a decent sized inverter.

Excuse my ignorance.. is that legal to regs? You would want the auto switching intact no? Vandercampadventures on KZbin in part 2 explains to use a contactor switch to earth bond and retain auto switching power. Did renogy tell you the inverter charger are earth bonded. Strange. Vandercamp says they are centre tapped.

@@traveling-taylors I would be really interested to see what they say as I asked Renogy the question and this was their response "Renogy's PUH inverters and PCL inverter chargers currently available for sale do not support the connection of external RCDs or RCBOs (Residual Current Circuit Breakers with Overcurrent Protection) for leakage protection. We do not recommend, and it is also not possible, that you run the inverter with a Neutral-Earth bond for the RCD connection.". Isn't yours a PUH model?

Yes, 2000w PUH. I have said it a number of times. Renogy staff don't even know their own products. They don't seem to design them rather than "borrow" designs.
