that's for sure. imagine all the dirt and sutt that is under there. not a healthy environment to be at especially since its planned as bedroom. as a deck outside, yeah i would agree, patch it up and leave as is, but not as a room.

Ryan needs to have a floor plan drawn up ,so he can think about the budget for the corner apartment first before he destroys anything else in the corner apartment. Once a floor plan and budget is decided on he will need to look for building supplies and get quotes for specific trades such as plumbing, gas services and electrical engineer for the wiring .That is only few of the things he'll need to get the corner apartment up to habitable conditions according to the building standards of the country he's living in .

I still think you should put the kitchen in the back room which leads on to the courtyard, then expand the bathroom into part of the old kitchen area. It doesn't have to take up all the area of the old kitchen but it would be more practical. Then you would have a good size kitchen with possibly a breakfast bar in it, a nice size bathroom, a good size sitting room come dinning room and of course your bedroom.
@kalimba9810

Agree with you. It makes more sense to have the kitchen open to the street and with natural light. Also the bathroom could potentially have an entrance from the bedroom as well as from the living area for visitor access.

@@bridgwll I was married to a builder for many years. Also if you think of the position of the wall between the kitchen and back room the pipework would easily be able to be to be put into the back room. I would not of suggested doing this if I thought it would make life harder. It would make the lay out better all ways round.

We found, when we gutted and remodeled the house we live in now, that cleaning up at the end of every day did wonders for our attitude. When we next showed up to work, the place was relatively clean, and we could see what we accomplished! Working around clutter or trash can really get you down. We spent ten months renovating (while also both working full time) - I got the grunt jobs like wallpaper removal, cleaning, painting, and general clean up. My husband has the carpentry skills, so he built the new kitchen, added a bathroom, and laid the flooring. The only things we hired out were scraping and refinishing the ceilings, and some of the plumbing and electrical. Can’t wait till you get to the “building” phase!

A thought on the bedroom floor, I have replaced or refurbished a few wooden floors and what I can see of yours is not good. I know you want to keep it, and I am all for wooden floors in a bedroom. However, I would carefully pull it up, clean under it and then relay it either with new flooring timber or reuse what is there, if possible. If you are going to do wooden flooring, polish it like a sailor polishes a wooden deck and then use a rug rather than a carpet. There is much work in doing it properly, be prepared for that, or just pull it up and carpet over the tiles. You got this, dude.
