Heat gun and scrapper, no chemicals needed. I was brought up in a council house and every four years the decorators in there white dungerees would come round and strip all the external paint. Then the foreman would come have a look and say" what colour do you want the door missus" the choices were red, green, blue or white. Windows were always white (crittle). Happy memorys.

Hard work, but it will absolutely brilliant when finished. That was so funny Scott, “ proper renovation channel” then the drill bit dropped off 😂. Shona is growing quickly now but still likes to know where her mum is … so cute. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. The filming and editing can’t always be easy, especially on top the hard work of the renovation and the work you do on the island ❤

As an obsessed knitter, spinner etc. this episode speaks to my heart. Your lace is looking fab. Looking at the chimney. It looks like the rain is washing the soot back down as you were saying. If i win the lottery i will send you a team of craftsmen to help you get the cottage water/damp proof. But even with all the problems you’re having i think a lot of us would swap places with you. I know i would. The only thing i would struggle with is the midgies 😝

Scott, Katie is right in her pronounciation of the word, soot and it's same sound as suit. Katie, couldn't you just use a 60 or 80 grit sandpaper on the door before the paint stripper? I do that to my old crummy wood pieces and it works pretty well. I test in a small corner with each grit to see which will cause less - if any- damage to the wood. It sure is messy, but I attach the sander to the wet/dry vac hose to keep the dust down. I end up with 220 grit to make a nice smooth finish just as I do after painting. Just a thought, not a criticism.

Long ago before impact drills, Star Drills were used to drill holes like that. 5 points. Put it in, hit itl then rotate, hitl and so on The hole quite often was not perfectly round. Were often used in mines.

For stripping paint, try a heat gun and scrapper. Especially if it’s been painted multiple times. Often the paint will just peel up. No heat gun, try a hair dryer.

5:08 The Duck Dance would have made appropriate background music at this point. 15:11 If these old stones came out of a fireplace perhaps the hole was drilled to install a crane to hang the pot over the fire. Just a thought.

Put sockets higher up wall to keep them away from potentially damp areas. Surface mount socket boxes, can be removed later without leaving any witness marks. For aesthetics... Perhaps consider metal conduit rather than plastic. At the risk of enraging the YT libertarians.... Please involve a qualified Electrician...
