@@einar8019 Only some Volvo station wagons are rated to 4400 lbs towing, but that’s not what I was talking about anyway. The absolute maximum payload capacity for a Volvo V90 is about 1150 lbs, with the RAM shown ranging from 3-4000 lbs. The sandbags were an example, but I guess since you haven’t seen people use them then nobody does, right? Also, have fun transporting gas cans in the trunk of that wagon.

I drove an eight passenger minivan for two decades because it had the more load capacity than a half ton truck, and with the seats out would carry a 16-inch thick stack of plywood, inside out of the weather. I now have a 1-ton truck. But I drive it mostly to haul tractors, etc. on an equipment trailer. Daily, is a JDM Mini-truck, which at town speeds is quite happy hauling a 1500-lb load. I bought it because I wanted something to ,punt a snowplow on, and the heated enclosed cab seamed like a far better idea than a UTV or ATV. The guys plowing with them always look cold and miserable, even with two pairs of Carhart insulated overalls on under a snowmobile suit.

Maybe in the city, but here in flyover country nearly everyone have a pickup, AND use them for what they were intended. Additionally where I live, Utah, 80% are diesel pickups with most neighboring states north & east have more than that.

People in cities don't often need to haul plywood, and if they do, they can rent a van or a delivery service. In the countryside, it does make some sense, although I don't understand why it needs to be so big. The engine sound is nice, though.

In Europe you don't take public transportation with your plywood. You go rent a van or get it delivered for the money you don't spend at the gas station. And if you don't need plywood you don't spend the money.

@scottshields1965 if you need to haul out size cargo every day it's a wonderful tool. If you need to haul cargo once a month, less so. If you need it once a year you should really consider getting a cheaper car and just rent what you need when you actually need it.

In Europe, we have cars ... and public transport. So we would not take DIY stuff in a bus. We have trailers, you can rent them for a tenner for the day and take enough wood to build a porch if you wanna. But if you cant afford a car, or a trailer but need to fix something, you have a back up (public transport). Nice Dodge though but is cool for the country side and if you haul regularly. You are the only US dude who I think deserves to drive it because you are rational (no sarcasm). Love your content and you are a good ally.

Here's why you don't see pickups in most of Europe 1. We don't need to compensate for having small bits downstairs 2. They wouldn't fit down most roads 3. Fuel is expensive here especially diesel 4. Yeah you can put lots in the back. You can also put tonnes in the best of an estate car aka station wagon *WITHOUT SOMEONE HELPING THEMSELVES TO YOUR STUFF* as it has something called a boot! Oh my bad "trunk" 😊 Now I know someone in the UK who has a Chevy Silverado pickup with a cummings twin turbo diesel in it, why? *HE'S A FARMER RYAN!* He needs something to pull a trailer filled with 5000L of diesel to his farm, not some lumps of plywood ok.

My family owns a construction company and he always tries to buy older Ford Rangers for the runaround/delivery trucks because they aren't too big but can still the job done. Nowadays you can't get any pickup truck that small.

There are two types of pickup drivers in the world. Those who can park a 3500 long-box dually between the lines at a parking lot, and those who can't. For extra credit, do the same, but parallel parking! I fully admit the latter is awfully difficult when your truck has the turn radius of a battleship.

I bought my 2005 Ranger new. I put 275k on it. Still looks brand new. 5 years ago I gave it to my son. He never maintains it. He’ll come over all the tires are bald, brakes squeaking; yet somehow it keeps running. He’s over 350k now. I kinda wish I never gave it away. I ended up buying an identical copy same color etc but a 2024 F250.
