Riding a scooter or motorcycle in south east Asia with zero experience is a very risky thing. So many tourists end up seriously injured many with life changing injuries. I'm an experienced biker and I am extremely cautious riding there. If you still choose to get one.. Learn about progressive braking and practice it in a car park or somewhere safe for an hour, also practice emergency braking. Braking on a motorbike or scooter is totally different than a car, you can easily be thrown over the handlebars if you brake too hard too soon esp in an emergency. Invest in an ec certified helmet, you'll get one for less than €100 euro and most bike stores will buy it back. The rental ones are worse than useless in an accident. If going on long trips invest in protective gear, you can get mesh tops which are cool but also have the padding to protect you if needed. Buy gloves, you can get summer biker gloves in most places, make sure they have proper padding over the back of the hand, there should also he some inside the hand. Watch a pile of KZbin safety riding videos, they really help. This stuff I mentioned could save your life or protect you from life changing injuries and it's all cheap and easy to do.

The first motorcycle she rode are Honda Cubs. Honda Cubs are rugged, simple, easy to operate. The Honda Cub has been essentially unchanged in continuous production since 1958. Honda has sold an unimaginable 140,000,000 of them. AND there is a worldwide order backlog for the Cub. Honda is churning out hundreds per hour and can't catch up.

Oh man, the classic Honda SuperCub 50. Absolutely perfect for a Sunday morning ride to the cafes or short rides along the beaches of DN. Pretty insightful guide to renting a motorbike in Vietnam. You'll need to carry a Driver's license if the bike is >50cc, or if it's an ebike but with max speed >50km/h.

Before you take the bike inspect carefully qnd and photograph all damage. Buy a decent chain & lock - some dealers steal their bikes then get you to pay them. Always drive with headlights on.

I'm a bike rider, and would not recommend to ride a bike for the first time in Vietnam. Go with a scooter or moped where you won't have to shift gears. By the way, "treat everyone as if they're going to do something stupid" while driving is not unique to Vietnam; it's called "defensive driving". It's taught in traffic school in the US. I got a traffic ticket once and had to attend traffic school and they teach you to look and anticipate so that you can react before it happens.
@travellingwithmaz

I agree, having a scooter is much better but legally speaking it has to be less than 50cc if someone does not have an international license and that’s the only one available unfortunately. I would still say stay clear from driving in packed city places like Ho Chi Minh City but da nang is quite good in the sense where it’s much more quiet and easier to drive around without contemplating too much with the sensory and anticipating side of riding a bike. Still! A word of precaution that it is not recommended to tourist but a legal option if they wanted to try out the experience

Thank you for posting this video. Very helpful and informative. Just Bikes seems like a trustworthy place. I plan to take your advice and rent a motorbike from there. Did you find motorbiking around Danang City and in the Mountains scary and difficult? Was the GPS strap to hold your phone? Thank you!

It is probably the most trustworthy place I’ve been to in da nang and I actually got swiped in my window and they responded in a timely manner and got me to a mechanic to get it sorted out ! I don’t think it was difficult as there’s less traffic there but as always, be cautious as it really depends on your ability to drive for yourself and for others on the road Yep!! It was to hold my phone but I ended up using my Bluetooth speakers and listening to the navigation as I heard there’s lots of phones that get swiped so be careful too :)

@@travellingwithmazpretty nerve wracking that someone came close enough to hit your mirror. Sheez. Good idea about the ear buds for navigation. I’ll do that too! I must say, you are very brave. Still contemplating about driving the monkey mountain loop that you did. Thanks again.

I think for me it was more of pushing myself out of my comfort zone but also being aware of your abilities to drive and be proactive (driving for yourself while driving for others), best of luck when you get there !! Either way, I’m sure you’ll have fun, it’s such a vibe there 😜

A bit late with the response here, I did a bit of a solo trip and I think the best thing to do is to ask the person you’re renting from what the capabilities of the bike are and how many kg it can take before it struggles! So far so good based on my personal experience but would be best to get it from the experts :)

Sounds good! You just won’t be able to head up the mountains in Da Nang Bruce because the government has banned any automatic motorbikes from going up there. It’ll have to be semi-automatic or manual. Although, travelling anywhere else, you’ll have no problem such as going to Hoi an (which is a beautiful area with so many lanterns - must visit ! 😍😍)

@travellingwithmaz
@travellingwithmaz 4 ай бұрын
I’ve seen lots of people ride bikes with their wife and kids so the answer is yes but please just consider their safety as well. If you have minimal experience with driving a motorbike and don’t have an international license, I would advise against this but it is your choice as to what you would like to do. Whilst it’s more expensive to take grab or rent a driver, it might be more expensive to pay for insurance in the case of an accident which is common in Asia.

I wouldn't recommend learning to ride a motor bike in Vietnam. They have a very unique way of handling intersections. When you're comfortable on the bike, may I suggest one of my top 10 rides in the world, Danang to Hue on the old road along the coast, absolutely spectacular! Also, headlight on during daylight is considered a traffic offense...
@travellingwithmaz
@travellingwithmaz Жыл бұрын
There are definitely some risks with learning to ride a motorbike in Vietnam and really depends on how daring some of our fellow travellers are. If our fellow travellers are daring, Da nang would be great if you go to the more quieter areas to ride a bike (just a bit outside of the city) to practice. If you do end up renting, I would recommend go riding ( aka equivalent to uber app - grab but for motorbikes) everywhere first and observing how the locals drive, how the intersection works, how to cross the pathway during large traffics, how the traffic light system works etc. Once you have a good understanding and idea, that’s when I’d recommend to start off slowly in small streets at night to avoid the messy streets. I’m not too sure about the headlights on the day but in terms of the top 10 rides, da nang to hue would be an amazing and beautiful ride but also quite long I believe at 2 -3 hours ??
@alexthai4957
@alexthai4957 Жыл бұрын
@@travellingwithmaz Thanks for the reply. The Danang - Hue trip is about twice as long on the slow but beautiful coastline. We usually spend one night in Hue then return using the much faster highway that includes a long tunnel through some of the mountains. I hope you continue making videos as your energetic style is very pleasant and you do interviews with ease. Please allow me to share a couple of motorbike rental tips. To keep things simple and feel a bit more secure, I always select a hotel or apartment with in-house motorbike rentals. Second, I always take several photos or slow video of the motorbike at time of rental focusing on any existing damage. Reports of unscrupulous rental companies are rare but always best to be prepared. You just earned another happy subscriber and I look forward to watching more of your content. Thanks for sharing your adventures and I wish you safe and pleasant travels.

That was the very first ride I did in Vietnam - to Hue and back over the Hai Van in one day - insane. No problem though. I had a 125cc. 50cc is pretty weak for the pass - don't know if you would make it. You can get a 155 NVX as long as you have a basic licence but you didn't hear it from me.

@@travellingwithmazno such thing as an international licence, only international driving permits - of which there are 3 types. Vietnam is only signatory to the 1968 Convention, so only IDP's issued from 1968 Convention signatory countries are valid in Vietnam. This EXCLUDES those from Australia, NZ, Canada, United States and many other countries from legally riding in Vietnam if they have a motorcycle licence + International Driving Permit.

@travellingwithmaz
@travellingwithmaz Жыл бұрын
If you’re a tourist, you don’t need any license to rent the motorbike in the video as this is a 50cc motorbike with the capacity to go up to 60km only. In terms of viet drivers license, you don’t need this if you have an international driver license which shows you have a license in your domestic country (driving a motorbike) but your country must be a part of the treaty - 1968 Convention on Road Traffic on IDPS which can be found here - internationaldrivingpermit.org/countries-directory/ Although, this motorbike is great for driving around da nang city, I don’t think it would go far in the mountains so it depends on what type of activity you are thinking about when visiting da nang. Would recommend driving to Hoi An, up to marble mountains and monkey mountains where the lady Buddha is ! 😍😍 Hope this helps!
