In a way, this was more prestigious than anything Royce or Rickson did. Neither of them beat a reigning UFC champ in an MMA fight.

I miss all the cool Kimono brands from the 90s that aren't around anymore: Storm, Krugans, Hunter; etc. Even the Bad Boy kimono I had in the late 90s was better than the ones they sell now.

Agreed. I still have an old Krugans tribal and an Atama as pictured. Man, the one with the American flag on one shoulder and Brazilian on the other. I loved that one, man.

Renzo was like a hot knife through butter. Takedown attempt stuffed by a sprawl, and boom. Side control. Not to mention the irony of low kicking Maurice.

We never saw this fight because all the martial arts magazines were trying to sell Smith’s videos on how to beat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The answer to this question, at least at the time, was to get lucky!
@scarred104 жыл бұрын
He didn't get lucky v silviera,he survived on the ground,escaped and then whooped him.

Maurice Smith's conceptual goal of "how to beat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" was all wrong, in my opinion. As a martial artist, the goal should not be about beating any particular discipline. The goal should be to be able to beat as many different opponents as possible. To strive to reach Bruce Lee's ideal of the fighter who can adapt to the styles of all the other fighters

So Maurice Smith defeated Mark Coleman and went the distance with Randy Couture. Even though he was taken down multiple times, he managed to avoid significant damage and a submission.
@alanguages Жыл бұрын
Maurice Smith is a point fighter. He doesn't try to finish his opponents. If you see some of his K1 matches, he would intentionally hold on to some opponents, just to run out the clock, because he was ahead. He goes for the rules of the specific sport.
@thataintnomoonsucka2 ай бұрын
The irony of the Coleman fight is that he was dissing the guard before the fight. Most of the fight happened with Coleman in his guard. Btw, I like Maurice, but this was quite ironic.

One of the many examples of why Renzo was the most proven MMA fighter of the Hracies…Rickson may have been the family champion and Royce the most iconic because of the the UFC…but it’s Tenno that fought the most I’m a amd with the hardest competion.

Super Fixed. Plus Shady victory from smith over Branden Lee Hinkel, probably to give more chance to Gracie. Btw, not only Hinkel got robbed by the judges but also Smith was HELL exhausted after the fight with the american wrestler. Renzo here wins like a typical gracie, nearly cheating, definitely shady.
