First time poster from Australia, loving your videos. I’m hoping the new RLC-833A and the doorbell (when available) are going to be good matches for this light, with their IoT feature, supplementing the cameras light, like you said previously, maybe from the side more than 10ft away. It also looks like you can link one camera to more than one IoT floodlight, which would be great to light up a long side passage or large yard.

Seems like the Duo Floodlight doesn't have the standalone Floodlight options to decrease and increase brightness upon motion which would be great. Another feature I believe is missing to turn on the light on a scheduled time of the day to automatically turn on upon the selected type of motion.

@lifehackster Love your videos, it’s my number one place to get security tech advice. Just wanna check that the floodlight still works if the Wi-Fi went down or is jammed. Does the motion detector still pick up movement and come on? I would have bought a Eufy floodlight cam but not so sure that a good idea anymore.

@LifeHackster Жыл бұрын
I really haven't tested a lot of IR emitters because the ones that are being sold needs to be plugged in (12 volts). I wish they make some that are solar powered...anyways, I usually suggest just get a WIFI camera..even battery powered ones and when they get triggered at night, they will emit their own IR and will help your other cameras plus you have an extra or backup footage from that camera.

Faces looked kind of washed out at close range. Do you think being able to adjust the brightness based on detection range would be a good feature?
@LifeHackster Жыл бұрын
I wish it has that feature…but the best setup for this is to place the floodlight around 10 feet farther than the cameras because the Duo 2 and the trackmix have their own lights and don’t need that extra light at close range…I might do another video showing effective placement of lights and IR lights to improve video quality of the cameras.

@LifeHackster Жыл бұрын
I'm using Unifi PoE switch but there are a lot of cheaper options. That is weird that it is not getting enough power.
@tdmdchannel2339 Жыл бұрын
Ideally, you need a POE+ switch that can support 30w on each port. (ex: Netgear GS305EPP) Regular POE+ switch have a maximum of 60 watts total on 4 port. If you use 1 port, you will get 30w but if all 4 are use at the same time, it is divided by 4 = 15w per port which is not enough power for this floodlight. I think this one is listed at 25w. Hope that helps

I have some Reolink cams, battery and POE. I like them. They've been working well in the cold, down to about minus 18 F, better than their rated reliability at 14 F. Battery cameras work below freezing temps. But the problem is batteries in general, whatever the device, do not charge good below freezing. I need to bring the cams inside to warm up, then charge them. I've heard solar panels won't charge battery cams below freezing but I don't have a solar panel to verify this. In summer I haven't had any problems with cameras in the heat, hottest temp around 105 F that I recall.

I wish they would come out with a wifi version that can be connected to a junction box. I have been looking to replace my backyard light with something that has a little more intelligence. This and/or the version with the integrated Duo camera would fit the bill nicely. I just don't like the idea of having to run a long power cord when a perfectly good junction box is available for power.

@lifehackster I just got the Duo Floodlight Wi-Fi and the PoE and can confirm, no junction box mounting/120v home power option. I contemplated installing an outlet or 12v LED power supply in the junction box and a junction box cover to mount the floodlight to, routing the Ethernet/power cable through the plate into the plug/12v power supply… I worry about weatherproofing but more so the amount of extra work just to make these products work when other floodlight cameras from Eufy, Ring, Wyze, etc have junction box mounting natively. I’m actually already decided to return the ones I have because of this. But I’d love to see you try mounting the Duo Floodlight to a junction box with house power. Shouldn’t be more than $10-$30 mod…just shouldn’t have had to 😂
@LifeHackster Жыл бұрын
@@ClarsSeesStars - I knew it... one good thing though about 12 volts is it is low voltage and you can run it through a wall or under the eaves without breaking any electrical codes.
