I'm testing the TrackMix currently, you should have tested it in your front yard with the street. It gets distracted constantly by my neighbors vehicle parked in the same spot for 24hr. It will over rotate and stare at the wall, it flips to IR mode, you have to have a monitor point set and auto return set to keep it from wondering. Sometimes it will over rotate and see a reflection in my bay window, and try to track motion in the window. I doubt it's capturing better footage of a moving object while it's moving, than a fixed camera covering that area. I have more work to do with Synology for Surveillance Station to record both feeds. The AI needs to learn to ignore parked cars that haven't moved. It needs a setting to limit how far it pans to prevent it from over rotation, and staring at the wall behind. I still think having 2x overlapping cameras covering an area is better than a PTZ camera. I would only add this for the deterrent factor, but not every opportunistic criminal will see this, if they already missed my warning sign and 8 other security cameras. TrackMix is a good concept, it needs some updates to make it practical.
@kewlztertc5386 Жыл бұрын
There's a firmware update that allows you to set tracking limits. Also mask your neighbors house and driveway in the Detection zone setting. Change tracking to person only
@Quan50212 ай бұрын
Turn off vehicle detection completely by setting the slider for vehicle detection all the way down to zero (this will stop the camera from recognizing vehicles at all and reduce processing resources), and set tracking type to just Person and pets or which ever one you prefer.. My trackmix (wireless) is in a parking lot with vehicles passing by semi frequently, it does start recording when a vehicle triggers motion but it will not track the vehicle and it doesnt recognize vehicles. I discovered that even if vehicle tracking is off it will still frame multiple vehicles in its veiw (they get framed with a blue box, there's a setting for this, it frames whatever it recognizes if you're in clear mode) which is an unnecessary use of processing power since I dont care about vehicle tracking

Seems to be the best of both worlds for having both static and PTZ video footage. If only they fix the tracking detection and some ghosting issues at night in a future version. Overall, I would prefer this over the RLC-823A. I might get away with placing this at my front yard without the neighbors complaining, provided I don't have its white LEDs on following them lol. Would love to see a comparison between the two including the motor noise. Thanks and great work as always sir.

@Pro1er2 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster Thanks for the info regarding ONVIF. I bought the Reolink 32 channel NVR when it was released because Reolink said it supported ONVIF. I couldn't get a single one of my ONVIF cameras to work with it so I sent it back and bought a Hikvision 32 channel to replace my current Hik 16 channel, it's a much nicer NVR than the toy-like Reolink but you do pay the price. To me this is like people covering their cameras in black covers to "stealth" them. I would rather they know they are on camera and it is following them recording everything as this acts as a deterrent and in most cases stops a crime before it takes place. I'd rather have it visible and stop the crime than be stealth and record the crime happening and have to mess around dealing with the outcome after.
@Atum_Ra2 жыл бұрын
I actually watched this a few times & it seems that Reolink really needs to dial in their tracking better in future firmware. The camera should do a much better job at keeping the person detected in the center of the frame and not backing off the object so much. The whole idea of the second lens is to be zoomed in super close to what's being followed, not to zoom out 😂 I ordered one of these but O have other Reolink cams and the more I'm noticing how poor the auto zoom really is, the less excited I am to receive it. I have a 523 PTZ that does a good job at auto tracking, so if the Zoom is spotty on the TrackMix then it's really not that much better IMHO. Again maybe they update the firmware and it turns out to be much better in the future, only time will tell.

I have learned a lot from your many videos - thank you so much! I ended up going with the Eufy spotlight cams + a couple of the eufy solar cams and am very satisfied with them so far. This Reolink looks very tempting, but mixing brands is a bit of a hassle. I do have a question for you, last year I had a porch pirate steal a package. I got a decent photo of the person, but the police basically said no license number, no investigation. I have tried a Eufy cam mounted under my mailbox and I get pretty good video, but with any motion, the plate number is blurred just enough to be unreadable... any suggestions for something that can get a license number off a car moving 5-15 miles an hour?
@kcody5646 Жыл бұрын
I just read about License Plate Reader cameras, that can track moving vehicles and they detect the license plate clearly, go to CCTV Camera Pros and read all about the different types of cameras. I am going for a camera that can read up to 45mph, and can also read at night…lots of education on this site…btw, I am a consumer, not a reviewer, and no links to the website….good luck
@elitechampion Жыл бұрын
Don't expect quality from Eufy cameras. They are the best for notifications & speed but their fatal flaw is their quality due to the low bitrate. Reolink smashes them out of the water for image quality because they allow a much higher bitrate that can actually read number plates and make out people's faces (4K cameras).

Hi, love your comparisons and testing. First-time surveillance system buyer. Need a system for a residential construction project and then will move the system to our home or other location. Am going poe, but would like the flexibility of wifi for one or more cameras. Question: Are there any negatives of the wifi version compared to the poe version? They are basically the same price, and if you can still run the wifi one on poe, is there any tradeoff? Thanks so much!

Can you do a comparison with the reolink duo 2, especially on the zoom side aspect? They are both 4k but I feel like the track mix has a better zoom

I think he answers this question by showing that 1080 telephoto looks better than 4K digital zoom at 50 feet. Remember 1080P telephoto lens is 8mm.

Another super-useful review. A question: Can the WiFi version stream continuous live video to the Reolink NVR without an ethernet cable?
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
I haven't tested it but it should as long as your NVR is connected to your network.
@dustisamust56022 жыл бұрын
@@LifeHackster Thanks for responding. What I'm really trying to determine is: AFTER initial setup of NVR and connecting the camera USING Ethernet cables, can I unplug ALL Ethernet cables from the NVR. In this scenario, the NVR would have only 110 AC power and the camera would have POE and everything else (camera to NVR and NVR to Wifi) would communicate wirelessly.
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
@@dustisamust5602 when you setup the WIFI camera, don't plug it in on the back of the NVR. Setup the NVR first and connect it to your router/network, then setup the WIFI camera with your WIFI which is in the same network (same router)..then go to the NVR -> channels and the WIFI camera should come up and you can add it from there.

On the wifi version, can I use a solar pannel? Can this same camera go either wi fi or PoE or are they completely separate cameras? Thanks. Marc T.

There is the battery version which is the one that you can use the solar panel. The wired WIFI and PoE are 2 different models.
@anrivera19752 жыл бұрын
Can you power it with a solar panel? If I hook it up in a NVR can I record 24/7? (not just the motion event). I like the camera, I'm looking for something that is capable to record 24/7 and wire free.
@Aaronproductions2 жыл бұрын
This device does not work with the NVRs properly, only one camera shows up, the wide one. and you cannot zoom from the nvr, or record the zoom camera from it.
@LifeHackster2 жыл бұрын
There will be a battery version soon. As to the NVR, you can but it needs to be plugged in (WIFI or PoE) and not on battery power...and it seems like it will only record 1 stream on the NVR at this time...Reolink should be working on full compatibility on their NVRs soon.

Great review. I want one for my main entrance to the farm. Is it possible to set a maximum tilt within a certain pan area? I'm asking because i want full freedom when looking into the property, but limited when looking at the driveway due to legal concerns when having a camera that sees farther than my property. I am reacquainting myself with Home Assistant so I think it's possible to do some magic there otherwise.

I was waiting for the new 823A 16X but now I'm not so sure. Any idea on the important differences? I thought the 16x was also supposed to be coming out in August but I might be wrong.
@kayberry62922 жыл бұрын
The 823A 16X has a fully optical zoom so expect the quality of the zoomed image to be much superior. It also has 7 IR LEDs so expect the night vision quality to be in a different league. But it doesn't have a spotlight (presumably sacrificed to create more IR light) and nor does it appear to offer presets or patrols. The jury will be out on the 823 16X until its autofocus algorithm is put to the test because it needs to focus a great deal faster than the current 823A which is often embarrassingly slow (eg over 20 seconds to focus). This has been an historical problem with Reolink optical zoom cameras and one which they haven't yet been able to fix. It's why the 823A 16X, like the 823A, won't zoom while tracking. The TrackMix tracking zoom is essentially digital manipulation of the optical image produced by both lenses so it's a workaround of the autofocus problem.
Does this have continuous recording 24/7 I have the Wi-Fi one but didn’t realize it’s only recording when motion activates it 😢I love it but I need something that always records

Yes both can record 24/7. You have to go to the recording setting and go to the timer tab and set the time frames or highlight all of it for 24/7 recording.

I've looked at the Reolink web site and can't find anything about which features are controllable when used with an NVR. Can you for example control plan tilt and zoom? Of are those features only via the app? And can they be used when accessed using computer client app? You videos and Reolinks only show example using mobile phone.
@Aaronproductions2 жыл бұрын
I just received mine and am upset that it doesn’t allow for BOTH cameras to show up on the NVR, only the 8mp shows up, no zoom lens. doesn’t make sense when they have another camera (the duo) that has 2 camera lenses and shows both… the NVR only allows for pan and tilt control, no zoom control… which is the least worry when you can’t even record the zoom lens camera…. guess you need an SD card and to have it in the app on a separate switch (not connected directly to NVR ports)
@ColinGrimshaw2 жыл бұрын
@@Aaronproductions Ah that's rather pointless then isn't it? A 4K system that you cannot really make full use of on a 4K TV, but rather just on the small screen on your phone! I think LH needs to add a review of these negative points because this never came across in the video review. Not everyone wants to monitor and replay on a small phone screen.

@@ColinGrimshaw Yep, and on their website it shows that the current NVRs are compatible, only after I bought it and plugged it in I found this out and asked them… they said that it only works with the new 36ch NVR and future hardware model NVRs… so misleading.
