My ex-girlfriend had private insurance called Blue shield and Blue Cross from the company she worked for, Walmart and she had to pay $5,000 a year before the insurance company picks up the tap. It was crazy especially that she wouldn't spend $5,000 a year on doctor's visits and prescription cost. It's crazy how the United States is more richer than a lot of these countries and they are able to give medical insurance for free or cheaper along with lower prescription cost.

My mom is on Blue Cross and Blue Shield and they claim she has medicare when she isn't even eligible for it as she only has 30 out of 40 credits (she worked as a teacher for 26 years where medicare and social security wasn't even taken out). We have been fighting this now for two years and even sent in documentation obtained from the social security office that she is ineligible and they continue to claim she is and refuse to pay. I keep telling her she needs to sue them for fraud because they continue to take her premiums and refuse to pay anything.

The problem I have with medicare for all is that I live in a conservative state that refused to even expand medicare when the ACA was passed. As it sits if I were on medicare or medicaid I would lose all coverage since I am trans and Missouri's medicare and medicaid programs are trans exclusionary. The only way I would accept medicare is if that limitation is dealt with. Because as long as my state is allowed to discriminate I am not interested in it.

In 2015, I found a job paying $15 per hour, that offered Aetna insurance, starting at $25 per week, which really didn't cover anything and wasn't worth cutting into my budget of mostly housing, so I declined the coverage, to the disappointment of my employer. I would disagree on one point. As has been repeatedly demonstrated over the last couple of decades, if an employer, especially a very large employer, were to realize huge savings in not having to pay insurance premiums, they would NOT pass these savings on to workers in the form of higher wages. They would simply pocket the savings and use the funds for things like stock buybacks, or investing in automation to eliminate employees, just as they did with the 2017 tax cuts.

Medicare is for the elderly and the disabled. This underwriting is done for the people who need the most care. Adding a younger, healthier pool of people will dramatically decrease that cost of Medicare and allow the younger healthier people to be able to ascend into different jobs that pay more. Thus adding more benefits, less cost and more people covered. Of course this is entangled by Republicans who refuse to let massive insurance companies have their profits cut. Almost all Health Insurance companies make the bulk of their profits from Govt Run Programs. So WE tax payer are already paying for it. When the GOP says "its not free" I totally agree. But remember WE TAX PAYERS ARE ALREADY PAYING FOR IT AT A MUCH HIGHER COST. Let's cut that cost, cover more people and add the freedom to look for better jobs.
