What concerns me about foreign bars made outside of Europe and Japan is the quality of the steel. I have seen at least one video where a Rep stainless bar began to rust albeit slower than a regular uncoated bar but it preformed worse than a rogue stainless in the same environment. I'd just be worried the barbell isn't the tensile strength due to some dishonesty associated with the sourcing of material and it would be more prone to bending and not immediately detectable... with that said I do like the touches they added with the end caps and etching the collars which is something other manufacturers need to take note of. Edit: I am little concerned about the nut under the end cap getting loose on the sleeve. I know cheap barbells have hex nuts those come loose so I am a little skeptical about that personally. Would be interested in seeing a long term review with daily use

@REPfitness11 ай бұрын
You bring up good points, but no one is immune to sourcing issues. Look at what just happened in the news with aircraft parts from Europe. What matters is the fundamentals of how quality is maintained and the processes associated with it. If you don't have those, it doesn't matter where you source or produce. That is why we have teams of people checking quality non-stop. From vetting factories, 24/7 at the factories, before it ships, after it arrives to our warehouses, investigating customer issues, prototyping, pilot runs, material tests, and more. No one is perfect, but how the company handle quality is critical. You have to be a certain size to have the expertise on your team and to do all this. The stainless steel issue you bring up is some years back before we leveled up our expertise in barbells. Even now we are tweaking to get better after every iteration, which is why you see such a huge change in our designs and quality from 5-10 years ago to today.

@@REPfitness thank you for the well thought out reply. I do like what you're doing in the gym equipment space and I do see lots of innovation. Your racks, rack attachments, specialty bars, and benches are top notch and innovative. Especially like your clear coat options being offered on just about everything and the price point. With regards to your recent Olympic bars I guess time will tell and based on the improvement I've seen with Rep overall I'm optimistic. I hope you didn't take the concern/criticism too negatively. Other brands are not improving their issues in this space, Adrian pointed out an issue with wear on his Ohio bar and he's not alone I've have same issue with my zinc coated Rogue bars too but have had much less issue with a lesser known competitor's zinc coated bar despite using that bar more; they haven't improved that coating just offered different options. In terms of looks, attention to detail, and specs your bar is on point and I'm sure it will do well. Thanks for giving some thought into the production of your equipment instead of just throwing an end cap or sticker on on something generic.

As an old guy who's been in and out of gyms since the late 80's. (olddddddddddd) we are totally spoiled nowadays with barbells. Pffft no one ever thought about this barbell vs. that barbell 20/30 years ago. You just tried to pick either the straightest one or maybe the one that had the least rust on it. Always having to tighten down the sleeves as the bolt worked loose. A $300 (ish) bar from anyone today is LIGHT YEARS better than what was generally available in gyms 30 years ago and probably better than what most gyms have today.

I agree 100%. I’m an old guy who first started going to the gym in the mid-80s. What you stated is exactly how we picked the barbell we were going to bench and squat with. I’ve been building my garage gym for many years now. The cheap no-name barbell I still use is 24 years old. Still looks great and has handled everything I’ve thrown at it. While I never was a competitive lifter, I do not understand the obsession with all the different barbells. Personally I wish Rep would stop putting all this effort into barbells and benches and instead develop more products to attach to the PR-5000 rack I own.

I don’t mind Rep having things made in China, especially when they create innovative new products. However, to copy and directly attack Rogue’s Ohio bar by calling this the “Colorado” bar is disgusting. Couldn’t they call it the Peoples Republic Bar? Or the Shandong bar or something?
@rjm65611 ай бұрын
Texas Bar was first. Then maybe the California or Ohio bar, not sure which was next. Is Chevy not allowed to call their truck the Chevy Colorado? Rep's HQ is in Colorado, it's where they designed the bar, so not a big deal imo. Manufacturing is just one part of it all.
@Mytruck5600tailights11 ай бұрын
The Texas Bar and the California Bar are both made in the USA. I believe your addition actually supports my point instead of contradicting it. With numerous potential names available, intentionally replicating Rogue's Ohio Bar concept while producing it in communist China seems distasteful to me. It not only indicates a deliberate decision against using American manufacturing but also appears to be an attack on it.
@rjm65611 ай бұрын
@@Mytruck5600tailights I just meant it wasn't Rogue's concept. It's been done before, by multiple companies. And my Chevy Colorado example? Not made in Colorado. Names are just names. Could be from where it's made, could be from where it's designed, or could just be a name a company likes. Your distaste for China/support of USA manufacturing is I think the main reason you're upset with it rather than how many reasons a company could use to call a bar after their home state.

For just power lifting, would the hybrid bar be top 2 (w/ the American Barbell?)
@GlucksGym11 ай бұрын
That's a tougher question than it seems. Once you get to a certain price range let's say $300+ you will gain build quality as things get more expensive but not as much as let's say vs a $200 bar or verse a $150 bar. So I'd pick a bar based on the knurl you want and the finish at that point and whatever other factors matter to you (where it's made, etc). The chewy bar is great but you'd have to want passive knurling for a power bar. The Hybrid has incredible tolerances but that knurl is much more aggressive though Rep's bar is pretty close. It's also 28.5mm instead of 29mm if that matters to you. You want something in the middle for knurling go with the Ohio Power. Does that make any sense?
