As a Minnesotan, I have viewed our original flag with the utmost reverence and pride. I have always believed that the Native American and the farmer displayed on our flag shows unity and represents a sharing of our land. I have never heard anyone say anything negative about our state flag and would not believe that the original designers meant anything other than honorable intentions when the flag was designed in 1893. I do not support a new flag design.

Well, i did the sums and of all your taxes that are collected - everything - the spend of this project was less than 1 cent per person in Minnesota. For $35,000. You got both a new seal and a new flag for 10% the real cost of doing one project correctly. It was done in super quick time to save money. Utah's spend on their new flag was at the last count $483,000. Massachusetts have spent $85.000 on a questionnaire survey with 10,000 detailed responses even before they start asking for designs. Don't quibble about cost, please.

Nonsense. It is a celebration of the dispossession of the indigenous people of the state by the recently arrived white settlers approved by an all-white legislature. The state seal approved in 1858 was based largely on the 1849 territorial seal. That was designed by Capt. Seth Eastman, based on a sketch by Col. J.J. Albert, at the request of Gov. Alexander Ramsey and Delegate Henry Sibley. Eastman’s wife, Mary Eastman, even wrote a poem about the seal in which she described the westward flight (into the sunset) of the Indian from the pioneer in Minnesota. “Give way, give way, young warrior, Thou and thy steed give way; Rest not, though lingers on the hills The red sun’s parting ray. The rock bluff and prairie land The white man claims them now, The symbols of his course are here, The rifle, axe, and plough.” This history may be inconvenient or uncomfortable to you. Real history often is. But we shouldn't lie about it the way you are.
